This happens when we take off a dress or blouse in a hurry and without removing the beauty product. The stain can be accidentally placed on public transport and stained by children. Removing lipstick from fabric can be difficult, especially if it contains bright coloring pigments.

Handy tools that are available in every home
The first thing you can use is dishwashing liquid. It is applied directly to the stain and using a small brush, make circular movements, without applying any effort, so that pellets do not appear at the site of contamination if the fabric is synthetic.
Another product that can remove lipstick is toothpaste. It must be rubbed in until the marks disappear. To do this, it is convenient to use a sponge or soft brush. After application, the product is rinsed and then washed.
Housewives have had to cope with a similar problem before. They used borax powder to get rid of stains. It was poured in a thin layer onto the area of contamination, rubbed in thoroughly and left for 20-30 minutes. After this, the item was washed in the usual way. Lipstick stains disappeared without a trace.
For white fabrics

Hot water and soap will help remove traces of greasy lipstick from natural fabric. You can soak the product in a basin with dishwashing gel. Cotton and linen clothes are not afraid of high temperatures and tolerate stain removers with aggressive composition. But it is better to use traditional household chemicals with an active oxygen formula so as not to damage the fibers.
Try shaving foam
This remedy is available in every home where a man lives. It can be used for clothing of any color made from natural and synthetic fabrics. Apply shaving foam to the stained area and use a brush to remove the stain. After 7-10 minutes the stain will disappear.
How it works? The foam contains active components. They break down fats, and soap discolors pigments and washes lipstick residues out of the fibers. After removing the stain, it is advisable to rinse the item thoroughly by hand or in the washing machine.
How to remove lipstick stains from outerwear
It is easy to remove dirt from outerwear. For a down jacket, you can use a vinegar solution or alcohol. Gasoline or turpentine will help remove lipstick stains from a jacket. But what about something made from drape or cashmere?
Wash your coat carefully, having pre-treated it. You can use a soft brush to clean off the dirt. Therefore, washing can be replaced by cleaning clothes.

The old fashioned way - laundry soap
This detergent contains lye. It is able to break down the chemical components of lipstick into simple substances. After which they can be easily removed from the fabric. Previously, laundry soap was used to remove various types of stains. Today it is undeservedly forgotten; housewives rarely use it for washing.
But this detergent has a unique and at the same time simple, absolutely harmless, non-allergenic composition. Simply lather the stain, leave it for a few minutes, and then rinse thoroughly or wash using another SMS. The unpleasant odor from laundry soap can be easily neutralized with various rinses.
How to save colored things?
Removing red lipstick from a colored shirt or colorful dress is also not that difficult:
- You can use the most common eye makeup remover, it’s especially good if one is oil-based - this type of skincare cosmetics is designed to cleanse the face, including waterproof makeup, so it can quickly remove regular lipstick.
- It is often recommended to use turpentine in this situation, but the effect will be much more noticeable if ether is mixed with it in equal proportions. After treating the stain, you need to wash the item in the usual way, and then rinse it thoroughly in cold water. Sometimes, after such manipulations, the item retains a pungent smell of turpentine - in this case, use any fabric softener the next time you wash it.
- A small amount of preheated glycerin can also help - you need to treat the stain with it, and after an hour, remove the remaining lipstick with a brush and wash the clothes as usual.
- Ammonia (aka ammonia) will save not only your snow-white item, but also any colored item of clothing. However, remember about safety precautions and use it only in a well-ventilated area.
- If you don’t have any of these substances on hand at the moment, try using toothpaste. To do this, you need to take a new, unused (but soft) toothbrush, apply toothpaste to the stain, rub the stain properly, wait about fifteen minutes and start washing. You can also do the same thing, but with shaving cream. They say this also gives results without the risk of harming the tissue.
By the way, if none of these methods help, there is one last option - take a little talcum powder and a blotting pad, pour talcum powder onto the stain, put paper on the stain and under it, then go over the item properly with an iron (though not hot, but just slightly warmed up).
Despite the fact that when they talk about a trace of lipstick on clothes, the imagination immediately pictures a snow-white men's shirt with a characteristic mark in the shape of a kiss, statistics say that in two cases out of five, denim items are stained. It would seem that slightly rough denim cannot be saved - the more you rub the stain, the more it is absorbed. But experts have a couple of recommendations for this case:
- take rubbing alcohol (or vodka, if you don’t have it) and a cotton swab, treat the stain until it disappears, and then wash the item as you usually do;
- Hydrogen peroxide will also work, although it is better to use it if the jeans are light, because treating with peroxide will give a slight whitening effect.
Alcohol removes lipstick
Even old stains can be removed with ethanol. Lay out the product on a flat surface, having previously placed a piece of film, polyethylene or a regular packaging bag on it. Soak a white cotton napkin in alcohol and then begin to wipe the lipstick off the fabric. This will take you 10 minutes. After the napkin acquires the color of the pigment, it needs to be replaced.
The procedure is repeated until the matter can be cleaned. Alcohol does not destroy fibers, so it can be used for both natural and synthetic fabrics. After removing the contamination, the item of clothing is washed. There will be no traces of lipstick on a dry product.

- If you notice that there is a trace of lipstick left on your dress or blouse, do not delay and start washing: the fresher the stain, the easier it will be to get rid of it. An old stain becomes covered with a layer of dust, becomes dull, matte and is difficult to clean off.
- You must first familiarize yourself with the product care recommendations indicated by the manufacturer on the label. Items that cannot be washed must be taken to dry cleaning.
- Also remember that if you have already tried to use any chemical substance, the item will most likely not be accepted for cleaning.
A simple solution - makeup remover
When we remove cosmetics from the skin of the face, we use special solutions. They clean perfectly without leaving a trace of lipstick on the lips. Why not use this product to remove stains on a blouse, dress or T-shirt? You just need to take a product that does not contain fat. That is, milk, foam, and creams cannot be used.
Micellar water and special makeup removing wipes work most effectively. Apply the liquid product to a cotton pad or piece of gauze. The stain must be removed from the periphery to the center, without increasing the boundaries of the contamination. To achieve the effect, you will have to change the napkin several times and repeat the procedure until traces of lipstick disappear.

Cushioned furniture
You can similarly remove lipstick stains from upholstered furniture. To prevent the colors of the upholstery from fading, use suitable stain removers. For patterned upholstery, this method is more suitable: apply toothpaste without additives or dyes to a clean white cloth, rub into the stain, rinse with warm water, and dry well.
Cosmetics are washed off from leather sofas with soapy water, and purified gasoline or ammonia is suitable for suede. They use it to spot-treat the print, and then wash it with a soap-based product. Instead of gasoline, you can use milk to remove makeup, but it only works on fresh stains. For stubborn prints, nail polish remover with an acetone-free composition will help. Any of the selected means requires preliminary testing.
Household chemicals
Industrial products can also be used. They are sold in hardware and construction stores.
You should only turn to household chemicals if other methods fail. In the store, you can ask the seller what is best; perhaps there is a special fat solvent on the shelf.

Hydrogen peroxide
For light-colored fabrics, peroxide should be diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio; for snow-white fabrics, it can be used in the initial concentration. There is no need to saturate the fabric with peroxide - just apply a cotton swab soaked in it for a while, then wipe off the stain with it and put the item in the washing machine. To be more effective, you can treat the stain with borax powder before applying peroxide. This method effectively removes lipstick from white fabric made from natural fibers. But it will only harm colored or synthetic fabric.
Toothpaste
Another assistant that you definitely have both at home and when traveling. Gentle natural pastes will not help here, but ordinary vigorous mint pastes will do very well. Bleaching pastes should be used with caution: they can act like bleach on colored clothes. A small amount of toothpaste is applied to the stain and rubbed with a soft brush.
