How to properly iron trousers with arrows, men's and women's?

Trousers with arrows, without which it is no longer possible to imagine a business suit, entered our lives by accident. Previously, during transportation, items were packed tightly into boxes, which caused wrinkles to form on the clothes, which were very difficult to iron out. These folds began to be called arrows, and such pants began to be considered fashionable. Moreover, arrows are present on both men's and women's dress pants, which once again proves their versatility.

However, for the look to look neat, stylish and beautiful, the pants must be perfectly ironed. We will tell you how to properly iron trousers with creases and care for them in this article.

What will you need?

Before you begin the main ironing process, you need to prepare tools and devices that will help make your pants neat.

To iron trousers with creases, you will need the following:

  • iron with steamer. If there is no such function, you can take a spray bottle with water. It is important that there is no soot, rust or scale on the sole, otherwise white or yellow-orange marks will appear on the trousers, the latter being quite difficult to wash off;
  • ironing board with a cover, preferably adjustable. If it is not possible to use a board, you can replace it with a table, which is covered with a thick, preferably plain, blanket;
  • a piece of light gauze or cotton fabric. It will be much more convenient if it is large and completely covers the pant leg. The opinion that you can iron trousers through newspaper is wrong - printing ink imprints on clothes, greatly staining them. Even on black, traces of letters are visible, so you should iron your pants only through lint-free fabric: gauze or cotton. It is important that it is light, preferably white - colored ones can fade. There are also ironing irons designed specifically to protect clothes from scorching and shine;
  • a sheet of thick white paper or cardboard. It needs to be placed under pockets and seams so that they do not print on the back side;
  • if you have a vertical steamer, the previous devices will not be needed;
  • pins or stationery clips - they are used to fasten the seams to make even arrows. You don't have to use them, they are for convenience.

In addition, you will need a lot of patience and free time. There is no need to rush, because haste is the main enemy of accuracy. There is a risk of poorly ironing your pants or even burning them.

Video: Master class on ironing trousers with arrows

How to iron trousers with arrows is described in detail in the proposed video: So, in order to get arrows on trousers, it is enough to initially iron the fabric, and then cover it with damp gauze or any thin cotton fabric to avoid shiny stripes and create arrows, adhering to the recommendations suggested above.
Instructions

Most styles of classic trousers by default assume the presence. This design solution makes the legs visually slimmer. Before sale in brand stores, they are ironed in advance so that the buyer does not have to look for the golden middle of the trouser leg himself. You can also smooth out the arrows using an iron and ironing board. Lay out the ironing board and remove the iron. Look on your pants

manufacturer's label. Look at the tag (what material the product is made of) and, depending on the type of fabric, choose the optimal temperature for ironing.

Try bleaching the item in the sun. First, rub the iron mark with a cotton swab soaked in hydrogen peroxide (pharmaceutical liquid, or an aqueous solution of hydroperite tablets) and ammonia (1:1). Instead of this mixture, table salt dissolved in fresh lemon juice is often used. Of course, the described method is only suitable for cleaning white fabric.

Finally, to combat iron marks on fabric, you can use table vinegar. Use it to acidify the water and moisten a cotton cloth or piece of gauze with the resulting solution. The trousers should be ironed or steamed through this lining (with an iron or a special hand steamer). If you are not sure about the color fastness of a stained item, use a thick solution of laundry soap instead of vinegar.

Clear, straight, steamed arrows on the trousers adorn the man. Why don’t men, they have long become an integral part of a woman’s wardrobe, and flaunting straight arrows is not only beautiful, but also very pleasant. How can you ensure that the creases on your trousers always remain straight and even and do not unravel after the first wear?

You will need

  • Iron, ironing board or table, damp cloth, vinegar, soap, pins.

Instructions

Prepare the area where you will iron your . It’s good if there is an ironing board in the house, but if there is not, choose a hard, flat surface without “bumps” and “steps”. Steaming wrinkles and on is very painstaking work. It's all the little things that matter here. If you iron on a table or other hard, smooth surface, first lay down a blanket or some thick fabric in several layers. Start ironing damp trousers from the wrong side. First you need to iron all the pockets, lining and top of the trousers.

Turn the pants right side out and begin ironing again. From the front, unlike from the back, trousers can only be ironed through a damp cloth. It is best to use thick cotton (chintz or calico) for this; gauze can leave characteristic mesh marks on thin trousers, so it is better not to use it. As soon as you finish ironing the legs themselves, you can start working on the creases. Fold the pants so that the inseams on the legs match. If the trousers are cut correctly, the darts will also match. To be sure, you can secure the legs with pins in several places.

In order for steamed arrows to last longer and be sharp and hard, they must be ironed not with a regular iron, but with a special solution. It is prepared like this: mix 1 spoon of vinegar with 1 liter of soapy water. It is better to be careful with soap, as it can leave a white mark on your pants. In any case, before experimenting with the solution, it is better to try a small drop on a piece of trouser fabric where it is not noticeable. If the solution does not leave a streak, soak a cloth in it and iron your arrows through it. It is necessary to iron until the fabric is completely dry.

note

If you pin your trouser legs with pins, make sure that they do not leave a rusty mark on the damp fabric. Once ironed, it can be very difficult to wash.

Helpful advice

There is another way to fix creases on trousers - iron them through several layers of ordinary newspaper. But be careful, you can only do this with completely black trousers without a pattern.

If you feel uncomfortable in classic-style clothes or are tired of them, but still need to wear them, then add a little casual style, which emphasizes the comfort of clothing. You can, for example, iron it on trousers

, while maintaining the classic style of the “top”.

In order for the trousers to be perfectly ironed and the creases to be even and clear, several conditions are necessary:

    Ideally smooth ironing board surface. There should be no dents, creases, or folds on it.

    Iron with steam mode, heated to the optimal temperature. On the inside labels of the trousers there are recommendations for the ironing temperature - this must be followed so as not to spoil the fabric.

    Thin gauze or cotton fabric through which the arrows should be ironed.

To make the arrows last longer, you can add vinegar to the water to wet the gauze at the rate of 1 tablespoon per liter.

How to iron creases on trousers? You will need an iron, a flat ironing board and a thin steaming cloth

Preparing the trousers

In addition to the available tools and equipment, you need to prepare the trousers themselves for ironing. This will allow you to achieve the best quality result:

  • wash. First of all, you need to remove all stains from your clothes. To do this, wash it well. If there is still dirt on the product, do not iron it: the stains can become deeply embedded in the fabric;
  • garbage removal. Garbage often accumulates in pockets and hard-to-reach seams of trousers: old receipts, pieces of paper, buttons, paper clips, even chewing gum. Its danger lies in the fact that at high temperatures, all this little detail can leave traces that will be almost impossible to wash off. It is worth checking light-colored trousers especially carefully, but dark-colored items will also suffer from chewing gum melted under the influence of an iron or a rusty paper clip. Lost small items may damage the iron;
  • remove all protruding threads, stuck-on lint, and pet hair. The best way to do this is to go over your pants with a sticky roller. This way the trousers will look neater, and debris will not stick to the sole of the iron;
  • turn your pants inside out. Ironing trousers from the wrong side is safer for the product and allows you to remove all wrinkles and folds. You can turn both trouser legs inside out, process them on both sides one by one, or iron the trouser legs separately;
  • study the instructions. This is another very important stage in preparing trousers for ironing. The label usually indicates the washing and ironing temperature and the rules for caring for clothes. If you skip this point, you can easily ruin your new trousers by setting the iron to the wrong setting.

Temperature selection depending on fabric type

If for some reason the label does not indicate the permissible temperature, you can determine the permitted mode by the type of fabric:

  • Cotton is a strong, dense material, so it can be ironed at temperatures up to 200°C, i.e. at three. Some iron models have a “cotton” mode suitable for this fabric. Cotton pants should be ironed with force, especially in places where they are heavily wrinkled;
  • Linen will also withstand high temperatures, so it needs to be ironed on a triple setting or in the “linen” mode. When ironing linen, you should apply force;
  • viscose is less resistant, so it must be ironed on a double iron, at temperatures up to 180°C;
  • For wool and mixed fabrics, a two-piece is also suitable, as well as the “wool” mode. The steam function should be turned on to maximum so that the fabric is slightly damp when ironing;
  • It is allowed to iron corduroy trousers at a temperature of about 170°-180°C, that is, at a deuce level. The peculiarity of ironing fabric such as corduroy is that it is necessary to move the iron in the direction of the ridges, not across them;
  • polyester can be ironed on a triple or double iron, but it is better not to turn on the steamer;
  • fabrics containing synthetics should be ironed on a double iron, at a temperature of 160°C, with pressure and a small amount of steam;
  • For silk products, one is well suited - a temperature of about 100°C. It is recommended to iron silk trousers from the wrong side, always using a lining - gauze or ironing iron.

Attention! If you cannot determine the fabric of the pants, try ironing the product from the wrong side in an inconspicuous area, setting the minimum temperature. If the trousers are not ironed on the one, you should turn on the two. The denser and more natural the material, the higher the temperature it can withstand.

Temperature selection

Before picking up an iron, you need to inquire about the ironing conditions of the existing product. Information about this is easy to find on the manufacturer's label attached to the inside of the trousers. Usually the designation takes the form of an iron with certain symbols indicating in what mode this type of fabric can be ironed. The options are as follows:

  1. Iron and three points. In this case, you can set the heating temperature of the device to 200 degrees.
  2. Iron and two points. Such symbols on the label indicate the permissible temperature - up to 150 degrees.
  3. Single point iron. The recommended ironing temperature is low, up to 110 degrees.
  4. An iron with steam output crossed out means that the item can only be ironed without using steam.

If the tag is lost and it remains unclear which temperature mode to choose, you should start with the minimum heating intensity of the iron, and then gradually increase the temperature. It is necessary to ensure that the arrow begins to smooth out without harm to the fabric.

In what order should I iron my trousers?

It is necessary to iron trousers and make creases on them according to a certain algorithm: first the wrong side is ironed, then the front side.

Pockets

First of all, you need to iron the pockets from the wrong side. Since they are usually made from thinner fabric, they are ironed on a single piece.

To neatly iron pockets, place them on the ironing board so that the rest of the pant leg is not in the way. To avoid creases, you can place thick white paper.

After the entire pant leg has been processed from the wrong side, you need to iron the pockets from the front side, tucking the fabric that has come out inside.

This procedure will prevent wrinkles from appearing during further ironing.

Waist part

Next you need to iron the waist part. If the trousers have a lining, iron it on the wrong side first, and then move on to the front.

After processing the inside out, turn the product inside out and straighten out the pockets. First you need to unzip the zipper, iron the middle seam from the inside out, then fasten it again.

Next, we iron the waist part, stretching it well on the ironing board so that there are as few folds as possible. Pressing the iron on the fabric for 2-3 seconds, but without moving it back and forth, iron the belt on all sides. If unwanted wrinkles appear, straighten them and run the steamer again over the area that needs to be straightened.

The codpiece should be ironed with the nose of the iron, trying not to touch the zipper with the sole of the equipment.

Attention! Don't keep the iron in one place for too long. This may result in burning of the fabric. 2-3 seconds at the recommended temperature will be enough.

Pants legs

When the waistband and pockets are ironed, you can begin the main part of the procedure - ironing the legs.

They need to be ironed from the front side, but always with gauze or an ironing iron. If there is no lint-free fabric to put under the sole, it is worth ironing the trousers from the inside out, otherwise there is a high chance of shine appearing on dark materials.

There is a procedure that should be followed when ironing trousers with creases:

  1. Connect all internal and external seams so that they completely match. Place the neatly folded trouser leg on an ironing board, straightening out all the irregularities and folds.
  2. Iron the upper part of the pant leg using gauze. It needs to be moistened with a spray bottle so that it remains moist at all times. Thick fabric should be placed inside the trouser leg so that the internal seams do not print on the outside of the product.
  3. Turn the product over and iron the back of the trouser leg.
  4. Repeat these steps with the other leg.

Creating arrows

Well-ironed trousers are ready to create creases. Before this step, you should make sure that there are no unwanted folds or wrinkled areas left on the product.

To make good arrows, you need:

  1. Find the front and rear grooves, which are the reference point for the beginning of the arrows. Usually they are located at a distance of 7 cm from the belt. If your trousers don’t have darts, you can make them yourself: carefully pin the fabric with a pin.
  2. Using these marks, bring the pant legs together. To prevent them from moving out, you can secure them with office clips or bobby pins or needles. You need to be careful with the latter, because if used carelessly, holes may remain on the product.
  3. Iron the arrows, first the outer one, then the inner one, moving the iron smoothly so that no wrinkles form. Go over the folds several times, lightly pressing the iron.
  4. Steam the arrows again by applying the iron to the trouser leg for 2-3 seconds, turning on steaming. This will help consolidate the result.
  5. You should not immediately put trousers with creases in the closet or put them on after ironing. The product takes a little time to cool and dry.

If it doesn't smooth out

A problem may arise with smoothing out old arrows that remain even after proper processing. If the fabric allows ironing with steam, the problem can be solved easily and quickly:

  1. The trousers must be thoroughly moistened with water and the trouser leg laid out on an ironing board.
  2. Hot steam is released over the desired place, after which the iron rises, and a book or other suitable object must be placed in its place.
  3. Pressing a kind of press with your hand, hold for 20-30 seconds.

The method is effective because the press, after treatment with hot steam, does not allow the fabric to take the shape of an arrow.

Knowing how to hide creases in trousers, you can continue to use your favorite item, which will delight you with its new style.

How to make arrows without an iron?

Sometimes unforeseen situations happen when ironing is not possible: a sudden power outage or equipment breakdown. But don’t despair and put your business suit back in the closet. Several unconventional methods will help you make creases on your trousers without using an iron:

  • mug with a metal wide bottom. You need to pour boiling water into it, and when it warms up, stroke the product;
  • hair curlers. They can also iron out the arrows. It is necessary to thoroughly wipe the device and degrease it, as any hair product could remain on the surface.

Attention! Be careful not to get burned.

If the arrows smooth out poorly

Many people have a question about how to smooth out old creases on trousers, if even with careful processing they leave noticeable marks. However, this problem can also arise with recently purchased trousers with stable industrial arrows. In this case, the “quick press” method can help. It is acceptable for fabrics that can be ironed using steam.

Having laid out the well-wetted trousers, you need to release steam from the iron. Then the device is raised, and a wooden block or book is immediately applied to the treated area. Additionally, you need to press the object with your palm and hold it in this position for at least 20 seconds. Afterwards you are allowed to move on to the next section. The effectiveness of the method is explained by the fact that timely pressing does not allow the fibers, after exposure to steam, to rise and take the previously fixed shape.

Having dealt with the problem of removing the arrows, you can continue to enjoy your favorite item, which after all the efforts will acquire a new elegant look.

Fastening arrows using traditional methods

Forming arrows is a painstaking, time-consuming task, so I would like to save the result of this process until the next wash.

Tools that you can easily make yourself will help you secure your arrows for a long time:

  • soap. Rub the inside of your trousers with a small piece of regular soap before ironing them;
  • vinegar solution. You need to mix 1 tbsp. l. acid with 1 liter of water, pour the liquid into a spray bottle or water compartment. Periodically moisten the gauze or ironing iron so that they are always damp;
  • starch solution. This method is suitable if you have an extra 30-40 minutes left. It is necessary to prepare a solution by mixing 1 tsp. any starch and 1 liter of water, boil this liquid for 3-4 minutes, then let it cool. The gauze must be constantly moistened with the product. The starch solution is suitable only for light, dense natural materials: linen and cotton.

How to smooth out arrows and correct mistakes?

It is quite difficult for an inexperienced person to get even, neat arrows the first time. However, “false arrows” are not a reason to despair. Errors can be easily corrected using available tools.

Simple ironing

To remove uneven arrows, just smooth them from the wrong side. However, this will require a lot of effort.

Vinegar

Mode of application:

  1. 2 tbsp. l. Mix 9% vinegar solution with 1 liter of water, mix thoroughly.
  2. Soak gauze in this liquid.
  3. Steam the legs one by one through gauze from the wrong side.

Advice! This method is also suitable for removing shine from trousers.

Washing with laundry soap

To get rid of the unpleasant shine that appears after ironing, just wash your trousers with laundry soap.

Useful tips and tricks

  • It is not recommended to use the steam function when ironing synthetics, because the liquid can leave streaks that can only be removed by repeated washing. If you cannot remove wrinkles in dry mode, you should go over the wrinkled areas with a damp cloth;
  • Do not press the iron too hard against the trousers, otherwise the appearance of shine and imprinted seams is guaranteed. This is especially true for synthetics and wool;
  • It is important that the product hangs in the closet so that the arrows lie flat;
  • You can iron slightly wet pants; it will be even more convenient than ironing dry fabric;
  • Freshly ironed trousers should be left on the ironing board for 40-50 minutes. If you immediately hang them in the closet, they may become wrinkled again at the folds.
