Also, if you are stretching the hips and waist area, you can stand with your foot on a wet spot in the pocket area and gently pull the opposite part of the pants in the desired direction with your hands. The procedure can be repeated ten times. At the same time, remember that the button at the waist must be undone, because the item of clothing may tear. Also, do not pull on the pockets themselves or the fasteners on the jeans. It is important to remember that you should not try to stretch the fabric in areas where it is thin or where there are holes.

You can also put the jeans on yourself as much as possible and sprinkle them with water already on your figure. A damp cloth will retain the same shape as when it dries. While your pants are wet, it’s good to do simple physical exercises: squat, bend over, raise your legs in all directions. Jeans soaked in water should stretch well.

If you wish, you can put on your pants and sit in the bathtub with water. As an option, add bath foam there, because detergents soften the fabric quite well. You need to spend about fifteen minutes in this water so that the fabric is thoroughly wet and saturated with the product. When you feel that your pants have become a little looser, you can stretch them in the right places. You can spend another ten minutes in the water. After leaving the bath, also do physical exercises and let the fabric dry on your figure. Jeans stretched in this way will remain the right size until the next wash.

Please note that wet jeans may begin to fade and you will need to try to protect your interior items from the blue dye. In the case of stretching jeans, you will have to avoid using dryers, because there they can shrink in size again. It is better to take them out or go out into the fresh air in them and wait until they dry completely. If you have no desire to walk in wet clothes and only need to stretch your belt, you can use the following stretching method. Fill a plastic bottle with water and place it in the waistband of your jeans so that it stretches along the bottle. If the bottle is too small, try a glass analogue from champagne. The second option is longer, but will require almost no participation from you. To do this, the panties are stretched to the desired girth and secured to a chair, drawer, chest of drawers or other object. The laundry remains in this position for a day. Often this time is enough to stretch the elastic by 1-2 sizes.

Sometimes the elastic is not sewn into the drawstring of the linen, but is sewn on top. Even if you stretch it thermally, it may lose its appearance or continue to stretch further. In this case, there are two other ways.

The first option is to make a tuck.

An incision must be made in the elastic along the side or back seam. The depth of the incision is determined experimentally during fittings. The main thing when cutting is not to reach the tissue.

The resulting cut must be processed. Sometimes it is enough to cover it with matching threads or braid. And so that the neckline does not catch the eye, you can sew a piece of elastic fabric or other elastic to it. It can be sewn either in tone or as a bright accent. For symmetry, you can make small darts from the two side seams of the linen. This method is suitable not only for underwear. This way you can increase the elastic on pants or skirts.

Another method will require a complete replacement of the rubber band.

  1. A small incision of 1-1.5 cm is made on the underwear drawstring on the wrong side and the elastic is pulled out.
  2. Sometimes it is stitched with 2-3 or more horizontal seams. In this case, you will have to rip out all the seams.
  3. The old one is pulled out and put aside.
  4. Instead, a new elastic band of the required girth is inserted into the drawstring.
  5. It is sewn with horizontal seams if necessary, and the incision site is stitched or its edges are processed.

Remove and change the rubber band

This is a troublesome, but at the same time effective method. In addition, there is no need to expose the fabric of clothing to iron or water. In this case, we use the following sequence of actions:

  1. Turn the garment inside out and make a small cut on one side in the hem of the garment where the ribbon is located. It is enough to make a hole of one and a half centimeters. If the tape is sewn into a seam, the latter will have to be ripped out. This is easy to do with scissors;
  2. Carefully cut the elastic in one place and carefully remove it from the hole. Pull it out slowly and do not lose the tape in the folds of the fabric. If the item fits the figure normally and without elastic, you can sew up the hole or hem it and leave it like that;
  3. If without an elastic band the clothes look unsightly or do not hold, we can lengthen the ribbon by sewing a piece of the required length, or insert another elastic thread that is more comfortable and suitable in size;
  4. We carefully insert the tape back into the hem and distribute it evenly using a safety pin. Before sewing the seam, try on the product to see if it is too tight for you.

Adding fabric to the cuffs

Fabrics of similar color and texture or, conversely, contrasting inserts are used to increase the length in the lower part of the trousers, creating cuffs or lapels:

  1. Measure the width of the cuff along the bottom edge of the trouser leg, place it on the selected fabric, and add 2.5 cm for stitching.
  2. Measure the desired cuff height with seam allowance and cut out two rectangles.
  3. The side seam of the cuff is sewn and processed.
  4. Rip out the bottom seam of the trouser leg and carefully smooth out the fold lines.
  5. The top of the cuff and the bottom of the product are connected with pins or a basting seam, after fitting they are sewn on, reinforcing the cuffs with non-woven fabric.
  6. The details are ironed and a lapel is made.

If the situation is hopeless

When none of the above methods help, and the purchase still feels too tight, try simply removing the insoles. If this approach seems unhygienic to you, replace the thick sports insole with a regular thin one. As a last resort, you can sell or give a pair to friends.

Elastic consists of thin threads called spandex. Some manufacturers use several strands of spandex directly onto the underwear.

To increase the girth of the underwear, the spandex threads are cut. This must be done with sharp thin scissors or tweezers.

If the underwear is covered with spandex threads, the cut points must be secured with threads. In such products, the rubber thread will stretch in different directions after the cut. In a couple of wears, the product may become larger than required.

This method is considered fast, because the result will be noticeable within a few minutes. But it has a significant drawback - the thing stretched in this way will not last long. After some time, the rubber band will have to be replaced.

How to sew elastic into pants

To work you will need:

  1. Pants that require elastic to be sewn into them.
  2. Rubber. Its thickness depends on personal preference (1.5-3 cm).
  3. Pins.
  4. Sewing machine.

How to restore the shape of a stretched elastic band? It would seem that it could be simpler than changing (re-retracting) a new tightening. But in some things it is sewn tightly into a circular pattern.

Changing such a part on a belt or on a sleeve, or on a trouser leg is a separate sewing job. You need to buy a new elastic band, rip off the old one (as carefully as possible), then sew a new one in place of the old one by hand or by machine. It is advisable to do all this carefully. Well, in general the whole story goes something like this...

We propose to simplify the task and reduce sewing work to a minimum.

We will take as a basis the principle by which belts are sewn in most sportswear or summer shorts. This is how, for example, a belt with an elastic band on sportswear is additionally secured with a tightening cord.

Sometimes the lacing that tightens the belt is done on a special additional part. On two patch flaps at the front.

This decorative insert makes it possible to tighten shorts or pants at the waist and at the same time serves as a decorative addition to clothing.

Considering the property of an elastic band to lose its shape (deform) and stretch over time, the industry produces similar products with an additional cord already inserted into it.

Do not rush to begin the procedure of stretching a pair immediately after purchase. Often, after long periods of exercise and shopping, the legs become tired and swollen. Your sneakers may no longer be too tight in the morning. If they still seem small, try stretching them. But first find out what they are made of. Otherwise, there is a risk of damaging them irreparably.

The easiest way to give the desired shape is to sneakers made of suede, leather, or nubuck. Be careful with fabric shoes: if done incorrectly, they can easily become deformed. The most difficult thing to stretch is a leatherette product. This material is difficult to withstand the effects of boiling water, steam, and ice. But it is not easy to stretch it using the usual “wet” method.

When the butt presses

Sneakers can press not only in the heel area, but also along the side edging. It can be stretched according to the same principle as the backdrop. There are several proven methods to make the material softer.

Dampen a soft cloth with water and apply it to the inside of the backdrop. Then tap lightly with a hammer. The heel of the sneaker should be on a hard surface.

If the back of the shoe is made of hard leather or rubber, you can simply massage it with your fingers. The back of a sneaker is especially easy to soften using this method: it is usually made of hard cardboard. To avoid spending a lot of time and effort on kneading, first hold the product over steam. After a few minutes, the skin or material will become more pliable.

The method is suitable for softening the pressing leather elements of sports shoes. An ordinary hair dryer will be useful for this. Hot air stretches the skin, making it more pliable. After heat treatment, simply pull the sneaker with your fingers or put it on your foot. Be careful when heating the seam: there is a risk that the glue will melt from excessively hot air.

Stretching and heating

For the first option, take a chair or ironing board, a small table or an empty drawer. We completely pull the clothing over the item and leave it in this position for at least a day, and preferably for several days. You can first lightly moisten the area with the elastic thread so that the item dries in this position.

A greater effect can be achieved if the item is ironed with a hot iron. Wet the desired area of ​​fabric on a skirt, dress, pants, jacket or other clothing using a damp towel. Alternatively, gently dip the material into water. It should become moist but not soggy. Heat the iron to maximum temperature.

Steam and paper

This is a fairly simple and cheap method for stretching leather, rubber, fabric sneakers and sneakers at home. You need to hold the product over the steam for several minutes. The main thing is to do this carefully so as not to get burned. Then stuff your sneakers with dry, crumpled newspaper.
