DIY curtains
You can purchase ready-made curtains, usually their choice is limited, but you can find a suitable option, you can also order individual tailoring, based on all your wishes, or you can sew them yourself, saving your budget.
So, let’s look at the process of preparing to create curtains with your own hands step by step:
- It is necessary to carefully measure the size of the windows; the standard width of the fabric will be 2.5-3 meters;
- The length of curtains in the living room should be standard - floor-length curtains with some material gap, but so that they do not lie on the floor, wiping off all the dust. Curtains that are too long are even unsafe; you can step on them.
- When the curtain material is selected, its edges are stitched on all sides. On top, where the eyelets will be attached, you need to leave more best for hemming.
Designers advise leaving 10-13 cm if the fabric is dense; if not, then 5-10 cm.
We select the eyelets and pay attention that their diameter should be 1.5-2 cm larger than the diameter of the cornice crossbar. This is a prerequisite for free sliding of curtains.
To sew curtains, you will need:
- prepared fabric;
- eyelets;
- scissors;
- non-woven fabric or dublerin (for fixing eyelets);
- simple pencil.
In order for the waves to be beautiful and uniform, there must be an even number of eyelets.
Let's begin work on creating curtains:
- we mark the distance (the optimal distance is 18 cm, more or less is possible, depending on the effect you want);
- then cut out holes with scissors corresponding to the markings made;
- after that, install the eyelets on the front and back sides, waiting for a click. In the case when you use regular eyelets, you need to snap them under pressure;
- We string the finished curtains onto the cornice and mount it on the window.
If you hang two blinders, and not one, then calculate the markings for the folds in their mirror image. This way, symmetry will be maintained and the folds will be the same on both sides.
Types of eyelets
The photographs of the tulle on the eyelets show that the rings may differ in:
Type of material. Eyelets can be metal or plastic. The cost of the latter is lower, but in terms of performance they are not inferior to their metal counterparts. In addition, they are not afraid of corrosion, they are fastened by hand, and their low weight allows them to be installed even on very thin material.
Shape and size. Most often, eyelets are produced in a round shape; oval products are less common. Their peculiarity is strict requirements for placement on the material, the inadmissibility of the slightest distortions. Rings can come in a variety of sizes. For curtains, products with a diameter from 1 cm to 5 cm are used.
Color and design solutions. Eyelets are presented in a wide palette of colors; variations for various metals, leather, and wood are also used. An interesting idea of the designers are models of geometric configurations, tied to the marine style (steering wheel, porthole).
When choosing colors, configurations and models, you need to take into account the design direction of the interior in general and curtains in particular.
The material of the rings is affected by the density of the curtains; plastic products are usually used with tulle. The diameter of the eyelets should be selected in accordance with the parameters of the cornice.
Fabric processing
Prepare the edges. Fold 2 cm inside out at the top and iron. The next piece of hem is equal to the size of the special tape (it can be replaced with non-woven fabric).
A pre-measured strip is placed into the resulting pocket. The finished set is carefully ironed.
It is recommended to machine stitch along the edge of the hem at the top. After this, do not forget about the design of the edges at the bottom and sides.
Tulle with eyelets in various rooms
For the window into the living room, it is better to choose a fabric of muted shades, without any frills. It is desirable that the color of the cornice and rings match the color of the curtains. As for the shape, it is preferable to use classic round products.
To make the curtains look more advantageous, you can use grommet tape. Double-layer tulle for the hall with grommets will add originality to the interior and will become a source of your pride.
As a window frame in the bedroom, it is better to choose a material with a soft structure, for example, organza. Such curtains will look light and airy. With the help of eyelets, you can create a stunning-looking perfect drapery that will add harmony and comfort to the interior.
The optimal tulle for the kitchen is mesh, muslin and other practical types of material. Curtains with eyelets are an ideal solution for a kitchen space decorated in a minimalist style.
How to properly care for tulle eyelets
