Features of knitwear

Supreme means “supreme”, “best” in English. The name justifies the definition, since the material differs from others in comfort and the highest quality.

Supreme fabric is a type of kulirka, distinguished by its special subtlety and delicacy. Density – maximum 140 g/m2.

The material has a clearly defined back and front side. The outer one is in the form of columns of loops (braids), the reverse one is a wave-like pattern, which is often compared to brickwork. The knitted fabric stretches well in width and has a tactile feel similar to viscose textiles.

Fact. Supreme appeared in the USA in the 50s. last century.

Composition and production

Supreme is a knitted fabric, which means it is produced on knitting machines, where the threads are bent and form knit and purl loops. When finished, the pattern is clearly visible on the canvas: a flat braid on the front side, and dense waves (also called brickwork) on the back.

For knitting suprema, thin smooth cotton threads with the addition of elastane fibers (up to 5%) are used. Elastane gives the fabric greater elasticity, resilience, strength and allows the product to maintain its attractive appearance for as long as possible. There is knitwear without such an additive, but it is much worse in its properties and cheaper in price.

The result is a thin knitted material, very light, soft and incredibly pleasant to the body. It stretches well in width and a little in length. Products made from suprem softly fit the figure, do not hinder movements and do not cause discomfort. Its density is about 140 g/m2.

To briefly understand what suprem fabric is, the designation of the word “suprem” itself will help, it is translated as the highest, the best, superior to others. And in fact, this knitwear is in many ways superior to other materials due to its properties.

Based on color solutions, Supreme is available in three types:

  • plain-colored - a wide variety of colors;
  • melange - when knitting, threads of several colors are used (usually no more than three) and the material has an interesting variegated color;
  • with a pattern (silk-screen printing, thermal printing, embroidery) - children's drawing, floral print, geometric, stripe, polka dots and others.

Supreme fabric is very similar in appearance and properties to classic knitted satin stitch, but they are still different. Supreme is much thinner than kulirka, and the thread itself for its production is looser.

Composition, manufacturing, types of coloring

At first, suprem (or suprim) was made exclusively from pure cotton. However, such knitwear turned out to be not very comfortable to wear: it did not stretch well enough and could shrink. Therefore, manufacturers soon began to introduce elastic fibers into the composition. The performance characteristics immediately improved: things from the cooler began to stretch longer, last longer, and keep their shape. Plus - they turned out to be easier to care for.

All-cotton knitwear is produced less frequently today. Most manufacturers prefer to make suprem, in which the share of natural fiber is 93-95%, and the rest is elastane (lycra).

Important. In high-quality suprem, the maximum allowable amount of synthetic fibers is 10%.

The material itself is produced by hosiery knitting on flat knitting machines. Only long-staple cotton is used. The finished suprem may have a small pile on the backside, which is removed by special sanding. The surface becomes perfectly smooth, pleasant to the skin, and protected from the formation of snags and pellets.

Knitwear lends itself well to dyeing. There are several types:

  1. plain dyed: plain fabric of different colors;
  2. printed: made from colored threads or the design is applied to the canvas in different ways (thermal printing, machine embroidery, silk-screen printing). Images are selected in accordance with the purpose of future products - for children's or adult clothing.
  3. melange: suprem is made from multi-colored fiber. Knitwear knitted from threads with thickenings along the entire length is also popular. After coloring, volumetric areas appear brighter, creating a line pattern.

Threads of different quality are used in production. The best is considered to be cotton yarn made from fibers up to 80 mm in length, from which an elite type of fabric is obtained - suprem penye.

Other types of knitwear (carde, openend) are made from threads obtained from shorter fibers, remnants of yarn from pene. They have a looser structure, a small fluff on the surface.
