How long does a washing machine wash - overview of modes

Updated: 06/30/2021 12:52:01

Synthetic items are durable and wrinkle-resistant, but require more frequent washing than items made from cotton or silk. To maintain their original appearance, you must follow the rules for washing and caring for them.

We have prepared a number of recommendations for properly washing synthetic items.

Preparing for washing

To wash synthetics use:

  1. washing powder designed specifically for synthetics, wool or silk;
  2. soap (laundry soap or other soap that is on hand, but colorless).

When hand washing synthetics, use as much water as possible. After washing the laundry in several waters, it is necessary to rinse the item - do not wring out the item.

Also consider the type of fabric:

  1. Acrylic.

    Such products are washed by hand in regular warm water or in a machine, setting the “Delicate” mode. It is not advisable to iron the fabric - ironing is only permissible through gauze soaked in water.

  2. Acetate.

    Unresistant to wear, highly electrified, yet light and soft. As in the previous case, the “Delicate” mode and hand wash are suitable. Additionally, an antistatic agent should be added to the compartment. Ironing - through wet gauze and from the inside out.

  3. Polyester

    . Water temperature – up to 40 °C; add an antistatic agent when rinsing the product. Ironing – iron in “Silk” mode up to 150 °C with moistened gauze.

  4. Polyamide, polyurethane, elastane

    . Water temperature – up to 30 °C with the addition of products for silk or wool. Drying in direct sunlight is prohibited. Ironing modes – “Napron” or “Synthetics”.

Do not exceed the maximum temperature of the water or the heating of the iron - otherwise the item will acquire a yellowish tint and the fibers will begin to melt.

Regardless of the type of fabric, always read the label information. The manufacturer informs you at what temperature and how to wash a particular item, and whether it can be ironed.

Before washing, you need to soak the item for half an hour in a container with detergent dissolved in warm water. If it is heavily soiled, wet the item and apply a small amount of chlorine-free stain remover to the stain. Next, rinse the fabric and wash the item - in a machine or by hand.

Secondary functions

In addition to the main and additional washing modes, in Ariston washing machines you can only select auxiliary functions, for example, only drain or rinse.

  • Additional rinse. When this option is activated, the washing machine will perform one more rinse during operation. This is necessary to completely remove the detergent from the fabrics. This possibility is relevant for small children, people with sensitive skin or allergies, and also simply in cases where the detergent was added in more quantity than necessary.
  • Individual mode. Allows you to store your own program in the washing machine’s memory, selecting all the necessary parameters for it.
  • Spin only. As a rule, the user can independently select the speed when activating this option. This function may be relevant if, after completing a program, the laundry turns out to be very damp or for hand-washed clothes. This option can also be activated after a night wash has been completed, during which the Ariston machine operates very quietly, excluding all spin stages, both main and intermediate.
  • Drain. This function can be used in the event of an emergency need to drain water from the tank, as well as in the event of a breakdown of the Ariston machine, when the equipment refuses to drain the liquid from the tank.

How to wash synthetics in an automatic washing machine

For such fabrics, machines have a corresponding mode - “Synthetics”. The temperature does not exceed 40 °C, the spin speed is up to 800 rpm. Raising the temperature to 60 °C is not recommended, as some synthetic products may become deformed.

Other suitable modes are “Quick wash”, “Hand wash”.

Procedure:

  1. Select the desired mode and turn on an additional rinse cycle.
  2. Add detergent - preferably liquid concentrates and gels that dissolve quickly in cool water and do not cause shedding. Add additional conditioner.
  3. Load the machine up to half of its maximum capacity. Pre-sort white items from colored and black items.

If the fabric is thin, place this item in a special laundry bag.

What does a washing machine cycle consist of?

During operation, the automatic machine goes through several stages. The cycle consists of:

  • washing,
  • rinsing,
  • spin

Often during washing this cycle is carried out not 1, but 2 or 3 times. This will depend on the mode and program selected.

In addition to the main 3 stages, there are also additional ones, which also determine how long the automatic washing machine takes to wash: pre-wash and additional rinsing. Some programs have these steps, others skip them. It will also take time to heat the water, drain it and fill it. There are many such additional factors, so it is worth dwelling on them in more detail.

How to wash synthetics by hand

Procedure:

  1. Fill a bowl with warm water and add detergent - preferably gel;
  2. Soak the item for half an hour;
  3. Gently remember the products with your hands, then rinse several times.

Attention! You cannot rub synthetic items with force, otherwise the fibers will be deformed, which will ruin the appearance of the product.

After washing, you must wait until the water has drained (do not twist the item) and hang the clothes on hangers to dry.

By the way, if a synthetic item is too large, then its size can be reduced. To do this, carefully wash the product in warm water, let it drain and place it inside out on a hot radiator or directly under the sun's rays. A similar method can be used for polyester and nylon. Things made of acrylic, lycra and spandex do not shrink.

Express mode

The duration of the fast method may vary among different brands/models of SMA. This is the fastest option - even in old machines it takes 30-40 minutes. And in more modern modifications it’s even less - 15–20 minutes. Why this option? It is ideal for those who wash something every day, for example:

  • diapers, rompers, other baby items;
  • socks, napkins, handkerchiefs;
  • You can freshen T-shirts and other lightly soiled clothing.

Recommended temperature is 30–40 °C. The spin speed is 800–1200 per minute. The express version is very economical - a minimum of electricity is consumed. The entire cycle from the moment the device starts to the finish takes a maximum of 45 minutes. After light washing, rinse once. If you prefer to change your clothes daily, this option is for you. Items worn more than twice should not be washed in this manner: the machine will not be able to efficiently remove dirt under such delicate conditions.

This version is called differently in different machines - accelerated, super-fast, daily, express. The advantage of the method is the 50% use of powder. But the drum is also loaded at 50%. Otherwise, the detergent will not rinse well out of the fabric fibers.

Features of washing a synthetic jacket

Polyester and nylon raincoats and jackets can be machine washed:

  1. Make sure your jacket pockets are empty.
  2. Turn the item inside out and then place it in the drum.
  3. Select the appropriate mode (“Synthetics”, “Delicate”) with temperatures up to 40 °C.
  4. If there is a padding polyester filler, add “Laska” or “Vorsinka” products.
  5. Add a cap of conditioner to the tray - this will preserve the volume of the filler.
  6. The number of turns is minimal, otherwise creases will remain on the jacket.

After washing, you need to let the water drain and hang the jacket on the balcony on a hanger. Shake the item from time to time to prevent it from becoming wrinkled and requiring ironing.

When washing by hand, fill the tub with warm water, add delicates powder, and use a soft brush to scrub away any stains. There is no need to soak the twist. Rinse it 3-4 times, let the water drain and hang it on a hanger.

On Indesit equipment

The vast majority of Indian washing machines are equipped with the “Synthetics” program. Modern washing machines from Indesit have gone even further and offer the user two options for synthetic cycles. Each has some features that are worth considering when choosing a button.

When you select the first one, the machine will heat the water to 60 degrees and activate a spin cycle of 800 revolutions. In this case, pre-washing will not be possible, but if desired, you can turn on the “Bleaching” function. This cycle lasts at least 75 minutes.

Modern washing machines from Indesit offer two synthetic cycle options.

"Synthetics-2" offers a lightweight cleaning option. Here the water will heat up to a maximum of 40 degrees, which will reduce the cycle duration to 71 minutes and eliminate the activation of “Whitening”. Otherwise, the cycle settings will not change.

Features of washing a blanket

It is recommended to dry clean synthetic blankets, otherwise the product risks losing its shape. If this is not possible, you will have to wash the blanket at home.

If the drum capacity is from 5 kg, then:

  1. Add a blanket to the machine.
  2. Add liquid and conditioner.
  3. Set the mode to “Delicate”, spin to minimum.
  4. Activate extra rinse.
  5. Remove the blanket and lay it out on a table or other smooth surface.
  6. Turn the blanket over from time to time to ensure it dries evenly.

If the blanket is large and heavy, you will have to wash it by hand. For this:

  1. Fill the bathtub with warm water.
  2. Add washing powder.
  3. Soak the blanket in water for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Wipe the surface of the product with a sponge.
  5. Rinse the blanket well several times.

Let the water drain and lay the blanket on a flat surface.

What other options are there?

A modern washing machine has 10–15 or more program offers. Moreover, there are options for certain things. It is useful to know how long it takes SMA to erase certain things or tissues:

  • Shoes - 30–50 minutes.
  • Synthetics - 1 hour 50 minutes.
  • Silk - 50–60 minutes.
  • “Down blanket” - there is also such a mode, the blanket is washed in 90 minutes.
  • Children's things - 140 minutes.

Features of washing a backpack

Today, backpacks are often synthetic, and washing them is not difficult. It is enough to place the product in the machine, activate the “Hand Wash” mode without spinning and dry it on the balcony.

If only the straps and handles of the backpack are dirty, take an unnecessary toothbrush, soak it in a solution (a cap of shampoo in a glass of warm water) and wipe the dirty areas. After this, it is enough to rinse off the foam in running water and dry the backpack in a well-ventilated area.

Rules for drying and ironing synthetics

Some synthetic items iron out on their own: just dry them flat. If the product needs ironing, maintain the maximum temperature depending on the type of fabric:

  1. fabrics containing nylon are ironed with an iron at temperatures up to 100 °C;
  2. The maximum temperature for lavsan is 140 °C.

Acrylic fabrics and chlorine do not require ironing.

Do not store laundry crumpled, as the remaining creases will be difficult to remove by ironing and may remain after washing.

Eco

This program is often called "bio-care". Suitable for any fabric with different levels of soiling. There are two stages:

  • At first the water is warm - 30–40 degrees. Enzymes are activated.
  • Then the temperature rises. The normal process begins.

Its special feature is gentle but thorough removal of old dirt. There are modifications of SMA in which it is necessary to use only powders with enzymes in this mode. Eco is an option that combines softness and intensity. Cycle duration is 120 minutes. There are no contraindications: you can wash synthetics, delicate linen, and children's clothes. This option is especially relevant if the machine does not have separate programs for the above-mentioned products.
