Cashmere is considered the delicate gold of the East. The material is incredibly beautiful and comfortable. It looks lovely and comfortably warms you up in any cold weather. But sometimes your favorite things get dirty. This is especially true for outerwear, on which dirt, dust or grease stains constantly settle. Therefore, the problem of how to clean a cashmere coat at home quickly and effectively without washing is becoming a rather pressing issue. The easiest way, of course, is to take your favorite item to the dry cleaner, but, firstly, this is quite expensive, and, secondly, chemicals will not be a very pleasant neighbor for delicate wool.
Features of cleaning a cashmere coat
A sticky brush works well for surface cleaning of coats.
Cashmere comes in different varieties. This difference is determined by the breed of goats that produce surprisingly thin and unusually warm fluff, the place of their breeding, and the manufacturers. Threads of cotton, silk or merino wool can be added to such wool. And Mongolian wool tolerates washing quite well.
Manufacturers place information about care methods on the coat label. And before you do anything with an expensive item (soak, wash, steam), you must carefully study the included fabric instructions. If you're lucky, the question of how to clean a cashmere coat at home will be solved much easier and more calmly for delicate wool using a delicate wash.
If the instructions do not allow such actions, then you should go the other way and clean the item using folk methods and semi-professional means. The dry cleaning method will help you clean your favorite wardrobe item yourself at home.
It should be remembered that cleaning a white coat will require much more effort and time, and a black coat will help restore the color by simply brewing black tea.
The method of how to clean a cashmere coat at home without washing is chosen based on the preferences of the housewife or the presence/absence of the required components.
If the car has been splashed or the owner is leaning against something that is not entirely clean, then stain removers or folk home remedies will help deal with the stains.
Greasy areas can be cleaned with special dry cleaning products.
The only thing you need to remember before starting the operation is that delicate wool is a delicate material. Therefore, you need to handle it very carefully. It is better to first try all the products used on an inconspicuous area of the item of clothing (for example, on the inside of the hem or sleeve). This will help solve the problem of how to clean a cashmere coat from dirt at home yourself, so as not to spoil your favorite clothes.
Examine the tag before cleaning
On the product label, the manufacturer indicates information regarding the composition and possible methods of care. The tag is usually attached to the inside side seam. Cashmere coats can be washed. Special liquid agents are used as detergent compositions. When machine washing, set to delicate cycle. The water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. By observing these conditions, changes in fabric structure and shape can be prevented. The last step should be a double rinse.
Before starting processing, the coat must be prepared. The item is thoroughly shaken out, pockets, if any, are turned out. The unfolded product is carefully inspected. The spots most often appear in the pockets, collar and sleeve areas. Particular attention should be paid to the front surface and lining.
If the label does not indicate acceptable cleaning methods, it is not recommended that cashmere items be fully processed. It will be safer if the cleaning agent is applied locally, that is, on each stain separately. In this case, the likelihood that the cashmere fibers will be damaged is minimal.
Cleaning cashmere coats with folk remedies
Household chemicals are usually the first thing housewives reach for to save a delicate coat.
There are several fairly proven preparations that will help solve the problem of dirt and help you choose an option on how to clean a cashmere coat at home. Moreover, most of them can be found in any home.
Petrol
With the help of purified Galosh gasoline, it is easy to restore a stained item from any grease that has fallen on it. To get rid of greasy stains, the product must be applied to the contaminated area, and then sprinkle the area with baby powder or talcum powder. When the talc becomes dry again, carefully sweep it away with a soft brush.
Glycerin and ammonia
The combination of these two components will help you decide how to clean a cashmere coat at home from any stains, including heavily soiled areas. Equal parts of both preparations must be mixed together, applied to the dirty stain, repeat the procedure after five minutes and remove the residue with a soft sponge.
Soap and ammonia
These preparations will cope with cleaning shiny areas (collar, end of sleeve). To fix this problem, you will need to take two pieces of cotton wool or a disk. A solution of baby soap is applied to the first disc (just whip up a generous amount of foam) and wipe the untidy-looking area of the coat with it.
The second disk must be soaked generously with ammonia and the soaked area must be gently blotted.
A clean absorbent wipe will complete the operation. The same method will help solve the problem of how to soften hardened areas.
Vanish
For light-colored items, Vanish carpet cleaner will help whiten stains. If the stain is completely fresh, you can simply use powder; if the dirt has already dried, then it is better to dilute it in warm water. The remaining product will be removed by a vacuum cleaner. Only the nozzle must be absolutely clean.
Soap
Regular or laundry soap will help get rid of minor stains. To do this, it is diluted in a liter of water, the solution is applied to a clean sponge, which removes dirt.
Talc
It will help get rid of fat on a light coat; to do this, just generously apply small granules to the stain and keep it in this state for several hours (you can use it overnight for this purpose). After cleaning, the talc is removed with a soft brush. You can use salt instead of talcum powder.
All these products will help you carefully clean your clothes from dirt and make sure that they are soft and comfortable as before, that they do not shrink, that they do not stretch, and that there are no pills.
Cleaning Features and Preparation
Cashmere is susceptible to any manipulation during cleaning or washing. There is a risk of ruining your favorite coat if washed unsuccessfully. You should prepare for the process.
- Inspect the tag. It indicates whether the product can be washed, whether dry or dry cleaning is allowed.
- A thorough inspection of the coat for stains, abrasions, and ingrained dirt. Particular attention to sleeves, pockets, collars, armpits.
- Clean the product with a soft cashmere brush or a sticky roller to remove dry dust, hair, and light dirt.
After these steps, choose the type of cleaning - dry or wet.
How to care for a non-washable cashmere coat
A cashmere coat is every fashionista’s dream, right?
Proper coat care will help avoid problems. Of course, it is unlikely that you will be able to completely avoid stains, especially if you do not use it in personal transport.
But deciding how to care for a cashmere coat will help you enjoy the light and warm item longer.
A couple of times a month, the coat is cleaned using a sticky roller, which will remove all small dust particles, hairs and other almost invisible debris. The same item will help remove animal hair from a cozy coat. As such a roller, you can use a soft sponge or a wet rubber glove. These things will also help solve the question of how to clean a cashmere coat from dust.
The coat can be dried only naturally, and it can only be stored on a hanger, without folding it lengthwise or crosswise, and it is best to purchase a special cover. This will help preserve the coat and also return it to its original shape.
A stylish and sophisticated item made of delicate wool will last much longer if you correctly use home or semi-professional methods that will answer the question of how to clean a cashmere coat at home quickly and effectively without washing.

General care recommendations
If you want your cashmere coat to serve you as long as possible without losing its original appearance, we recommend handling it very carefully:
- Try to clean thoroughly after each season;
- Don't wear it too actively;
- Cashmere coats containing more than 80% wool should not be machine washed (with full soaking). Only hand wash or dry cleaning is acceptable, more details here;
- Woolen items quickly absorb odors, so air the item often. Store in a tight case;
- Try to clean stains as soon as you place them. The sooner you take care of them, the greater the chances of getting rid of them painlessly;
- Do not iron with a regular iron. You can use a steam generator with a vertical steaming option;
- Hang on wide soft hangers.
A cashmere coat is not cheap, so it would be a shame and stupid to ruin it with improper handling. Believe me, it is better to spend a little time and effort on proper care and wear the product for many years than to throw it into the trash bin overnight.
Cleaning without washing from dirt and dust
In fact, this is a type of dry cleaning. Only instead of caustic chemicals, improvised products from the home medicine cabinet or kitchen cabinets are used. Talc or a special powder for dry cleaning is scattered over the entire surface of a loosely laid out coat and easily pressed into the fabric with your hands. Then the product is shaken off into the bath, the coat is placed on a hanger, and the remaining cleaning powder is removed with a soft brush or a slightly damp cloth. A good way to tidy up your clothes for the wearing season. Talc can be left on the product for a long time. The longer the contact, the more thorough the cleaning.

Wash
This is usually a wet wash, which is not suitable for all coat models. Information is looked for on the label. And also, wet washing should be abandoned when combining contrasting colors in one product, a rigid coat with a base glued with non-woven material. Cashmere products with lapels, hard shoulders and complex top shapes are held in place by sizing, so they also cannot be treated with water.
Before wet washing you should:
- fasten all buttons and zippers to preserve the shape as much as possible;
- tear off or unfasten the fur;
- remove the belt, metal jewelry, removable parts;
- put the coat in a mesh bag;
- set the “cashmere”, “delicate”, “hand wash” mode;
- turn off spin;
- turn on additional rinse.
The washing temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.
Liquid formulations marked “for cashmere” or wool are intended for machine washing.
Manual washing is carried out using chemicals for cashmere or baby shampoo. Temperature conditions are also up to 400C. Avoid strong friction and do not use hard brushes. The optimal washing mode is as follows.
- Soak the product in a basin with the diluted product for 15–20 minutes.
- Good, but gently crushed.
- Again leave for 15–20 minutes.
- Wrinkle again and rinse under running water.
Cashmere retains detergent residue, so rinse the coat thoroughly to avoid streaks.
Squeeze by hand. The best option is to wrap the coat in a towel or terry sheet and knead it with your hands until it gets wet. There is no need to leave clothes on a hanger immediately after washing: the weight of water will deform the fabric. We take it out of the basin, squeeze it lightly in our hands, then wrap it in cloth as described and dry it.
