External insulation with tape tow and linen twine

Ordinary tow is not very popular in construction, as it has been replaced by improved rolled material. This tow is made from combed flax. This process takes place on special carding machines. After such processing, the material is polarized and formed into a bale 15 cm wide. Then the tow is cleaned of debris and other inclusions. In the process of multi-stage processing, a high-quality sealant and insulation is obtained, which has excellent soundproofing and moisture-resistant properties.

The main advantage of tape tow over conventional material is simpler and faster installation. The material can be divided into strips or stuck directly from a skein without disturbing its structure. Tow easily separates into smaller ribbons due to the high softness of the fibers.

Complex processing of tow does not deprive it of its high environmental performance. The natural origin of the material promotes air exchange in the log house, which reduces the likelihood of rotting. Unlike finishing a wooden house with moss, a seam made from tow is very strong and dense, so it will be problematic for birds and rodents to pull it out. Sealing with such material is carried out in the traditional way, parallel to the crowns, into seams and cracks. The tow is pushed inside the cracks with a spatula or a special wooden spatula. In this case, the material is hammered into the internal space of the cracks, pushing it deep into the frame so that it is flush with the joint. After laying the material, the facade acquires high protection from atmospheric agents and an aesthetic appearance.

If you want to give your home a special charm, use linen twine (rope) for sealing. To insulate a wooden frame, three-strand linen rope is used. Small nails or construction staples are optimal as fasteners for such material. To insulate and seal a log house with linen rope you will need:

  • roulette;
  • scissors;
  • twine for sealing;
  • hammer and small nails (if fastening is done with staples, you will need a construction stapler);
  • brush to protect the sealant;
  • impregnation for wood.

After purchasing and cutting, the rope is laid at the joint of the logs. In this case, the twine must be carefully pulled and secured with a bracket or nail. Fasteners are placed every 15 cm. In the corners of the log house, the pitch between nails can be 1.5-2 times smaller.

Advice! To make the insulation look interesting, nails are driven in using a special technology. To do this, you need to slightly gut the rope at the location of the fastener. It is enough to move the fibers apart a little when sealing. After that, a nail is driven into the resulting gap or a bracket is secured. When the fastener fits tightly into the crack, the string is pulled tight. This technology allows you to hide the nails inside the fibers of the rope, which will give the facade an aesthetic appearance. It is for this quality that the twine is used for internal sealing.

When the string is clogged around the perimeter of the entire house, it is necessary to carry out another stage of sealing. In order for the sealant in the seams to perform its functions for a long time, it must be treated. To do this, the sealant and the entire joint area are treated with protective wood impregnation. During processing, you can coat not only the rope, but also the logs themselves. This will not only protect the sealant from premature wear, but will also extend the service life of the entire frame. In addition, impregnation can give the house a certain shade and emphasize the natural texture of the wood.

This type of sealing is very simple, so you can even do it alone. However, the process may take several days due to its monotony, but the result is worth it. Sealing with natural materials will protect the log house from destruction and give it a unique charm.
