Kuoma shoe sizes, Kuoma clothing sizes

Many parents are familiar firsthand with one of the most popular Finnish brands for the production of demi-season and winter shoes, “Kuoma”. Some buy it in Russia, others, fearing counterfeits, rush to go to Finland to get it when cold weather sets in. What are the shoes from the oldest specialized one, which for more than 80 years continues to successfully gain attention and maintain the trust of its customers in the quality products of Kuoma, ranging from insoles, slippers, work boots, and ending with ultra-modern felt boots for almost all age categories? What should you pay attention to when choosing products from this brand? And what is Kuoma's sizing chart?

For many Russians living in the central part of the country, Kuoma brand footwear is associated, first of all, with the so-called felt boots, which in many ways resemble ordinary children's or adult boots, but not traditional felt products. Warm and light, convenient and comfortable, in a different color palette - from cold, calm, pastel to bright and daring, including with simple designs, they give a whole bouquet of positive emotions to their “owners”. And little preschoolers now don’t have to worry about zippers, laces and fasteners: they just need to put a minimum of effort into putting on their shoes, putting their feet into the Kuoma boot without weights. The size chart (reviews about the shoes are mostly positive) allows you to choose felt boots with an elegant last, side or front Velcro, drawstrings forming a snow-protective cuff, leather inserts, and decorative drawstrings. Models made of shiny superpolyamide have been developed for women.

Qualitative characteristics of Kuoma felt boots

The insufficiently presentable and somewhat cumbersome (according to some categories of people) appearance completely covers the quality characteristics of the durable Kuoma felt boots, the size chart of which will be given below. Firstly, they are characterized by good thermal insulation properties created by a soft layer of faux fur, a felt removable insole that does not roll down in felt boots, and a practical, flexible, shock-absorbing polyurethane sole, both high and low (for kids). Wear resistance is ensured through high-quality modern textiles with moisture- and dirt-repellent impregnation, side and toe toes molded onto the frame of the same seamless, strong, non-slip sole. In addition to the special impregnation, an indicator of moisture resistance is the presence of innovative closed-cell plastic in the shoes. A comfortable last and a tight heel indicate that when sewing Kuoma shoes, the anatomical structure of the foot must be taken into account. Suitable also for people with high arches. Another nice little detail, although not as descriptive of the quality of the shoes, but which plays an important role in ensuring the safety of a child on the road at night, is the presence of 3M-Scotchlite reflective elements.

Weather

What weather are Kuoma felt boots intended for? The size chart of this product suggests its use by different age categories both in mild and severe frosts. The air temperature can vary from -5ºС to -40ºС. Up to -10ºС, it is enough to wear cotton socks for a child or an adult. It is not recommended to use synthetic boots with felt boots, as they will be cold and cause discomfort. In severe frosts, many mothers, still fearing for the health of their children, dress them in thermal or woolen socks or purchase thin soft fur insoles, inserting them directly onto their original felt ones. Everything here is individual. If the shoes are chosen correctly, sometimes a terry sock with felt boots is enough, even in the bitter cold.

Size chart

Kuoma is represented by a fairly wide range of Finnish shoes, differing in models and color shades. The size range of official products varies from 19 to 49. In this regard, for the majority of those who wish, a unique opportunity is presented to choose a suitable solution. The size is fixed on the sole and a tag on the inside of the shoe.

Does the Kuoma size range comply with generally accepted Russian standards?

Depending on the length of the foot, children's shoes, according to all-Russian standards, are presented in sizes 16.5 - 37.5. For adults, the range ranges from 35-50. When buying Finnish shoes, it makes sense to pay close attention to the fact that the size chart of Kuoma products is somewhat different from the generally accepted Russian standard sizes. So, for example, if your child is 24, then according to the corresponding insole length, Kuoma shoes will correspond to size 23. It is also worth keeping in mind that the Kuoma size chart (for children and adults) does not have “half” sizes. Therefore, when choosing and purchasing shoes, you should primarily rely not on the existing foot size, but on the length of the foot, correlating it with the desired Finnish size along the length of the insole. Just below the table shows data that clearly shows the correspondence of the insole length to the desired size, which will easily help you determine the appropriate size of Kuoma shoes. The size chart, due to simple ignorance of the fact that it does not correspond to Russian standards, unfortunately, is not always taken into account, which leads to errors.

How to correctly determine the size of a child's feet?

When choosing boots, sneakers, sandals or felt boots for your child, it is very important to first determine the length of the foot in centimeters. This will help you choose the right shoes that will fit comfortably on your feet and not squeeze them.

Correctly measuring the leg

There are several ways to determine a child's size. The first thing to do is measure the length of your foot. It is important to understand that this segment also needs to be measured correctly. It is the length from the edge of the heel to the tip of the big toe. Another important rule is that you cannot measure the leg when the baby is lying or standing. In this case, the results obtained will be incorrect, because when the child stands, the pressure on the foot increases and the leg becomes wider.

To measure the foot correctly, the baby must stand on a hard surface. The following steps are performed:

  • We place the child’s foot on a sheet of white paper, it is better to take A4 format.
  • The leg should be positioned so that all its points are in good contact with the paper.
  • Outline the foot with a pencil, starting from the heel. The pencil must be held perpendicular to the floor.
  • Using a measuring tape or ruler, measure the distance from the edge of your heel to the end of your big toe.
  • Repeat the same procedure with the other leg. As practice shows, on both feet the indicators may differ by 0.5 cm.

How to measure the distance correctly can be seen in the picture. If necessary, numbers are rounded up rather than down.

There are several other ways to measure. You can leave a wet footprint on paper or newspaper and immediately measure it with a centimeter. This method, of course, is simple and fast, but in reality it often produces the wrong result. Well, the easiest way to measure a child’s foot is to use a special measure equipped with a scale in centimeters and millimeters.

Recommendations for parents during the measurement procedure

Whichever method is used, parents should keep some important tips in mind. These include the following recommendations:

  • The child must stand confidently with both legs on a hard surface.
  • The day before the measurement, the baby should not drink much, as the feet may swell.
  • The procedure works better in the afternoon.
  • The son or daughter must be in a good mood; whims can interfere with obtaining an accurate result.

Now it's time to get to the fun part. Knowing your foot length is not enough to determine your size. You need to perform a few more manipulations.

First, we add another 0.6 cm to the length of the foot in centimeters. In this case, we get the first number we need. For example, if the leg has a length of 15 cm, add 0.6 cm, we get 15.6 cm. Now add 0.6 cm to this number again. This will be the second number. That is, 15.6+0.6=16.2 cm. Now go to the table and find the desired size. The most suitable size will be between 15.6 and 16.2 cm.

If 2 sizes suit you at once, you should give preference to the one that will best suit the fullness of your feet. If the leg is full and has a high instep, it is better to take larger shoes and boots.

Determining the size for babies up to one year old

It’s easy to guess that the methods described above are more suitable for children who already stand and walk confidently. What to do if your little one can’t stand or walk yet? Here a measuring tape or a regular thread will come to the rescue. Using this simple tool, we measure the length of the foot from the heel to the end of the big toe. Add 0.6 cm to the volume that will be added when pressure is placed on the leg while standing and select the appropriate size using the table.

Nuances when choosing the right Kuoma shoe size

When determining the right shoe size for yourself before purchasing, it is important to remember the following. “Kuoma” shoes cannot be worn end to end!!! To do this, add at least a centimeter to one and a half centimeters to the resulting length of the foot. This will allow (if necessary and to reassure mothers) to put on extra socks for the child or insert fur insoles in severe frosts, and also, most importantly, to ensure the necessary ventilation of the feet in Kuoma felt boots. The size chart (customer reviews indicate this) greatly helps in making the right choice. Plus, in children under 10 years of age, their legs also grow quickly.

How to choose the right Kuoma shoes individually

Children's models are designed to accommodate different types of fullness and arch of the foot.

The type of instep is determined visually or when putting on sneakers. If the leg enters with difficulty in the area of the laces, then most likely the baby’s leg has a high instep. Selecting boots with Velcro in the instep area will help you use them as comfortably as possible.

Models of boots with a wide top allow them to be worn by children with large ankles.

Adjustable Velcro straps will not allow the shoes to fall off thin legs, allowing them to be fastened precisely to a small ankle circumference.
