For quality sleep and rest, a person must ensure maximum unloading of the spine. And for this you need a suitable mattress, which is selected depending on the hardness of the base. Today there is a huge selection of different fillers. What is struplast, what properties does it have, is it worth buying - this is a question that is often heard among consumers. Mattresses with such filling have orthopedic properties, are inexpensive and do not require maintenance.

What it looks and feels like
Strutoplast is a non-woven material of synthetic origin. It feels elastic to the touch. Used for the production of medium and high hardness mattresses. Not recommended for children under 6 years of age or those weighing less than 60 kg. For people with excess body weight, from 90 kg, a hard mattress made of struplast is suitable.
The material has several other names - cholcon or struttofiber.
Strutoplast is produced for the production of sailors with a thickness of 4 to 16 mm. Standard size 200X220. Many manufacturers offer mattresses in custom sizes.
Based on the degree of softness, there are 3 types. The first is “holcon soft”, used for sewing clothes. The second is the “medium” from which bedding is made for sleeping newborns. The third type is the hardest material called “strutofiber hard”. This is what mattresses for adults are made from.
Strutoplast mattress: reviews
Getting acquainted with the opinions of the owners of Strutoplast mattresses, we can say that in general they are satisfied with their purchase. They note high elasticity, absence of foreign odors, and sufficient air circulation. No significant deficiencies were identified.
Of course, we are not talking about cheap goods from suspicious manufacturers, which sell out quite quickly. That is why it is better to purchase a mattress exclusively from trusted brands, for example, from manufacturers such as Ormatek or Green Mebel.

All about composition and production
Strutoplast in a mattress is a material made of synthetic fibers, consisting of 3 layers:
- reinforcing bottom;
- polyester;
- upper reinforcing.
The layers are connected under the influence of high temperatures.
The first part of the material’s name “struto” means that the fibers are placed vertically and do not intertwine horizontally. This technology is also called independent springs, that is, if you press in one place, it will sag straight down, and the adjacent parts will remain in place.
To increase thermal properties and enhance air exchange, natural fibers are added to struplast:
- sheep wool, durable, absorbs moisture, allowing the filler to “breathe”;
- camel wool, with similar properties to sheep's, but more expensive;
- seaweed, which does not cause allergies, dries quickly, contact with it has a positive effect on the condition of the skin;
- bamboo, elastic, hygroscopic;
- linen, which allows you to maintain body temperature.
The most common mattress filling that is mixed with synthetic fibers is coconut coir. It increases rigidity and is inexpensive.
Filler structure
The mattress filler strutoplast consists of three layers. The top and bottom are dense reinforcing ribbed planes, between which the bulk of the polyester fibers are located. They are connected to each other thermally.
The first part of the name – “struto” – refers to the vertical technique of laying fibers. This method allows the product to be pressed only in places where it is pressed, and not over the entire area, and explains its exceptional ability to maintain and restore its shape. It is no coincidence that the material is called “independent non-woven springs”.
Standard products have a thickness of 4, 5, 8 or 16 mm. Their width is from 60 to 220 cm. The usual length is 120 or 200 cm. Many manufacturers of this filler meet the wishes of customers and produce canvases of the required sizes.
Struttofiber is an innovative material with increased density that looks like felt. "Independent springs" have been specially developed for orthopedic mattresses and toppers.
The main competitor of Thinsulate, developed by the American company 3M, is holofiber insulation. What connects them and how they differ, read here.
