The main criterion on which a set of linen depends is the size of the mattress. Modern manufacturers produce 3 types of them:

In order not to make a mistake with the size, add its height to the length and width of the mattress and add another 5 cm. Excess size is not a problem; an oversized product can be laid more evenly.
Duvet cover
If its size is chosen incorrectly, the blanket will slide and crumple, which will create discomfort for sleeping. What to consider when choosing it:
- Mattress parameters;
- Length, width and thickness of the blanket;
- The desire to sleep under the same blanket or different ones.
The parameters of the mattress are important because they are used to select a blanket, which determines the actual size of the duvet cover. For linen and cotton products, add 7-10 cm above the blanket parameters. These fabrics shrink a lot after washing. For a synthetic duvet cover, 3 cm is enough. Pillowcases
The 70x70 pillowcase, produced in Russian and Chinese sets, is designed for a 68x68 pillow. This size is not accidental and is focused on the anatomical features of most people. Foreign manufacturers prefer 50x70 pillowcases for 48x68 pillows. Measure your pillow and add a couple of centimeters on each side, keeping in mind its height.
The pillowcase should fit well on the pillow. Provides good fixation either with a deep flap of 20 cm or a fastener with a sewn-in zipper (less often with buttons). This detail is not always indicated on the packaging, ask the seller:
- Now there are GOST types and sizes, but its function is only advisory. Manufacturers are not obliged to adhere to it, so the same name may imply different dimensions of the set (remember the Euro set).
- Read the packaging carefully. Information about the number of items and their sizes must be present.
- Please remember that sets may not be complete (without sheets or duvet covers). For example, in some American sets, the duvet cover is replaced with a sheet, which is fastened to the blanket with buttons or a zipper.
- The main criterion is that the bed linen matches the sleeping area. Measure and calculate the final size of your sheets, pillowcases and duvet cover. Don't forget about shrinkage of natural fabrics. If something doesn’t add up, think about whether it’s worth buying a set, because you can choose everything separately or sew it individually.

There is only a certain range within which the parameters of one or another type of home textile should fit. Theoretically, you can buy any set with suitable markings and use it. An ordinary sheet. Its dimensions should be such that the sides and “foot” end of the mattress are completely hidden. For example, for a mattress 190x120 cm and a height of 20 cm, a sheet of at least 160x210 cm is suitable. And always, more is better than less. The calculation is done like this:
- Length – 190 cm + 20 cm = 210 cm.
- Width – 120 cm + (2x20 cm) = 160 cm.
But with a stretch sheet everything is much simpler; you don’t need to count anything. Where the dimensions of a two-bed set of bed linen are indicated, the parameters of the sleeping place + the height of the side are immediately set for it (must be equal to the height of the mattress +10 cm). If your mattress is 190x120x20 cm, then the markings on the labels can be of the following types:
- 190x120+30 cm.
- 190x120 cm, side 30 cm.
