The family life of many young couples begins with the choice of bed linen, and this is not surprising, because good sleep is the key to good health and good mood. For double beds, you must select appropriate bedding. The most difficult thing will be with the choice of “clothes” for a large blanket, but we will tell you what size double duvet cover is needed.
Bed linen - standards
Many people know that linen sets are divided into categories depending on the size of the bed:
- 1 bedroom;
- 1.5 bedroom;
- 2 bedroom.
In addition, there are types of kits:
- children's;
- "Euro";
- "euro maxi";
- family.
The classic set consists of 4 items: two pillowcases, a sheet and a duvet cover.
The exception is the family kit. It is also called five-subject. Instead of one large one, manufacturers put two medium-sized duvet covers in it.
Each category has its own standard of sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers.
Single sets
The popularity of single bedding has declined sharply since the early 2000s. Either the apartments have become larger, or the people are wider... It is unknown. But the fact that such kits can no longer be found on sale is a well-known fact. However, the standard in Russia for single beds is still in effect. According to GOST, adopted in 2005, the dimensions are as follows:
- pillowcase – 70x70 cm;
- sheet No. 1 – 120x203 cm;
- sheet No. 2 – 120x214 cm.
Where is the duvet cover, many will ask? He's gone. Instead of a single bed, the set previously included a one-and-a-half bed.
Today, single sets have been replaced by one-and-a-half sets. They are suitable for both old and new beds.
Suitable underwear for single beds can be found from foreign manufacturers. In the USA, 1-bed sets consist of a sheet 99x191 cm (with elastic), a duvet cover 170x220 cm, pillowcase 51x76 cm. In Europe, accessories marked “1-bed” have dimensions of 90x190, 145x200 and 51x76/65x65 cm, respectively.
One and a half bed linen
One-and-a-half-size bed linen is perhaps the most common. Basically, such sets are intended for one person, but they are also suitable for two people of medium build.
Bed linen sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Few people adhere to GOST. And abroad they still have their own standards.
In Austria and Germany, sets often do not include a sheet. It is purchased separately. Italy is famous for its narrow duvet covers up to 140 cm wide (in a one-and-a-half set).
A 1.5-bed set made in Russia most often consists of:
- pillowcases (2 pcs.) – 70x70 cm;
- sheets – 150x220 cm;
- duvet cover – 145x215 cm.
Double and Euro
They are in high demand among married couples. Double and Euro sets are suitable for a standard double bed. Instead of two pillowcases, you can often find four in a set: two regular and two decorative.
Despite the same popularity, the sets differ significantly in size:
- Double bed linen is mainly produced in Russia and China (rarely in Germany). They are designed for a bed with a width of 140–150 cm.
- Eurosets come in two types: Queen (standard) and King (maxi). They are much larger than the classic double version. The difference in width can be 40 cm or more.
Family
Many people know the set as “Duet”. This is the one that comes with two duvet covers instead of one.
Sometimes married couples cannot share a double blanket and constantly pull it over. Then the idea arises of using separate blankets, which, of course, require the same bedding. The family set completely solves the problem of finding and selecting products of suitable colors. It usually includes a double sheet, two 1.5 double duvet covers, and one or two pairs of pillowcases.
"Euro" standard
Euro bed linen is the most voluminous and is suitable for a family bed with a high mattress and a bed width of 160–180 cm.
Many people are interested in the question: the size of a “euro” is how many in cm? In European sets, duvet covers have a width of 200 cm, and sheets - from 220 cm.
The “standard” variety is more common than the “maxi” variety. Linen is sewn in Russia, China and Turkey. In imported versions, pillowcases are often rectangular in shape.
"Maxi Euro"
A truly “royal” set of impressive size. Its dimensions speak for themselves:
- duvet cover – 220x240 cm;
- sheet – up to 290x310 cm.
Maxi sets are not always found on store shelves. Beds with a sleeping area of 180–200 cm are not so rare, but blankets measuring 220x240 cm are.
Child (in a crib)
For adult sets, the difference between sizes is not too great. They have approximately the same equipment. Another thing is a children's set. It happens:
- For newborns. In addition to standard accessories, it often includes bed rails (bumper), canopy, pillow and blanket. The sheet may seem large - 100-120 by 150 cm. But this is more of a plus than a minus. This way you can cover it well.
- For the nursery group. The sizes are practically no different from sets for newborns. The only thing is that you will no longer find sides and a canopy in it.
- Teenage. And here is the most interesting thing. Apparently, manufacturers believe that after nursery, children get an adult bed (which is often true). Therefore, the next size of children's underwear corresponds to a full size one and a half. But! In it you will find one pillowcase instead of two. You will also delight your child with “childish” colors.
The larger the sheet, the better it can be fixed to the mattress and the less it will bunch up and move out.
Children's sets: nurseries, teenagers
Russian and foreign manufacturers of sleeping sets for the younger generation produce products in two versions:
- Nursery set, abroad they use the clarification “for newborns” (Baby bed). These are babies under 4 years old who are still sleeping in their first small beds with sides. A pillowcase from a domestic manufacturer is 45x45, a sheet is 110x150 or 120x180, a duvet cover is 110x140 or 100x150. Foreign analogues: pillowcase 40x60, sheet 120x170, duvet cover 100x120.
- Teen or school version. This is already the standard of a regular single bed, chosen for older children. Russian standards include pillowcases 40x60, sheets with a width of 120 and a length of 150, duvet covers with a width of 120 and a length of 160. The European size consists of a pillowcase 40x60, sheets 120x170, duvet cover 100x120.
The main thing when buying accessories for babies is not the brightness of the colors, but the quality and naturalness of the fabrics.

Standard bed sheet size
As already mentioned, there are no standards for sheets. It is chosen depending on the size and depth of the mattress. It is important that its end is completely hidden. Therefore, the size of the canvas should be larger than the sleeping area. The calculation is made as follows:
- Product length = length + one mattress depth.
- Product width = width + two mattress depths +5–10 cm.
For high mattresses with a depth of 30 cm, a Euro sheet is well suited.

Selecting the “frame” format for the bed
A comfortable mattress, the right bedding, this is the ideal place to sleep. If the first one must be chosen according to physiological needs (orthopedic, antibacterial mattresses), then the second condition must coincide with the pillows and blanket. That’s why when buying another sleeping set, you need to wisely choose not only the model, material, but also the size. The variety in the modern assortment is amazing; they differ not only in the width and length of the products, but also in the number of components. If you have a spacious bed with two 1.5 mattresses, you can purchase two identical 1.5 sets.
Size options for fitted sheets
A sheet with an elastic band is an indispensable thing for those who like to toss and turn in their sleep. It resembles a cover that sits tightly on the mattress. It is very easy to choose a product:
The dimensions of the product correspond to the sleeping place.
That is, there is no need to add anything. As a rule, they are suitable for any mattress height in the range of 17–30 cm. Some manufacturers specifically specify this detail. For example: 160x200(30). By the way, sheets with elastic are also available for round beds.
Tips for arranging furniture according to Feng Shui
The familiar ancient science of Feng Shui will tell you how to properly place a bed, and indeed all the furniture in the house. All people would do well to become familiar with the basic principles of this science. The main condition is that the bed should be square in shape, and its headboard should be wide, capable of protecting sleepers from negative energy.
The position of your bed makes a huge difference to your sleep. According to the advice of Feng Shui adherents, a bed in the bedroom should be installed adhering to the following rules:
- There should be space for passage around the bed. If the bed is single, it is better to place it in the corner of the room or sideways to the wall.
- The head of the bed should be in contact with the wall, but not with the window.
- The bed should not be located opposite the entrance to the room.
- Sharp corners should not be directed towards the sleeping area.
- The feet of a sleeping person should not be directed towards the front door.
- There is no need to accumulate unnecessary things under the bed so as not to block the flow of energy.
- It is advisable to remove electrical outlets away from your head during sleep to avoid unnecessary electromagnetic radiation.
- It is better not to place the bed in the passage between the door and the window.
- Hanging chandeliers, a lamp, wooden beams overhead are bad.
- Mirrors facing the bed are also inappropriate. They reflect all the negative energy a person has accumulated during the day.
The ideal place to locate a bedroom is deep into the house or apartment. If the apartment is generally one-room, the sleeping area should be fenced off with a screen or partition. The bed should be away from the door and in a small apartment.
TVs in the bedroom should be no closer than 3 meters away. Massive paintings above the head of a sleeping person are also considered an unfavorable condition. If you live in a private multi-storey building, make sure that the bedroom is not located under the bathroom or kitchen. Also, there should not be any heating or water pipes behind the bedroom wall, that is, a system where water or gas is constantly moving is a poor choice for a good night's sleep. Orientalists also advise removing all flowering plants from the bedroom. After all, it is unknown which of them is favorable for good sleep and which is not.
Don't forget about the comfort and quality of the mattress! After all, a low-quality mattress can ruin sleep in the most beautiful room, furnished according to all the rules. The highest quality mattress models now are orthopedic mattresses made of elastic slats, 6-8 cm wide.
If you are renovating your apartment and furnishing your bedroom from scratch, we advise you to listen to the advice of Feng Shui. If possible, make changes to the furniture in your bedroom, and perhaps something in your life will change.
Standard duvet cover size
Modern duvet covers come in different widths. Domestic products are narrower: 145, 175, 200 and 220 cm. And foreign duvet covers of the same range are 5–15 cm wider. They are also chosen according to the size of the duvet:

One and a half (for one) | 140 x 205; 150 x 210; 155 x 210; 160 x 210; 130 x 220; 140 x 220 |

"Euro" (for two) | 155 x 215; 195 x 210; 205 x 210; 200 x 220; 220 x 240; 240 x 260 |
Set size | Duvet cover |
One and a half | From 143x210 to 160x230 |
Double (Russian standard) | From 175x210 to 180x220 |
Double (European standard) | From 200x220 to 215x220 |
King size (euro maxi) | From 220x240 to 240x260 |
Family (two duvet covers) | From 143x210 to 160x230 |
Use a sewing tape measure to measure your blanket. Add 5–10 cm in length and width. This will be the recommended duvet cover size.
After washing and drying, bedding often shrinks. This is especially evident in products made from natural fabrics. Shrinkage in the range of 2–5% is considered an acceptable norm.
Standard pillowcase size
With “clothes” for pillows, the situation is a little simpler. The standard sizes of pillowcases are generally considered to be:
- 50x70 cm – for rectangular-shaped products;
- 70x70 cm – for square-shaped products.
At the same time, many manufacturers produce identical sets with the ability to choose the size of pillowcases. For orthopedic pillows, pillowcases are sold separately. They are of non-standard size. Can be with elastic and zipper.
The most important criterion for bed linen is not the composition of the fabric, not the spectacular pattern or completeness. Choosing underwear starts with size. The duvet cover should exactly follow the shape of the blanket. It is better to choose a sheet that is longer and wider than the mattress by 20–70 cm (if it is not elastic). Having chosen the right size, you can safely move on to the aesthetic side of the issue. Fortunately, the range of colors and prints of lingerie today is very large!
How to make a bed according to individual measurements?
Sometimes even the widest range of ready-made bed models cannot please the buyer's imagination. I still can’t find the right bed, but I want to arrange the bedroom as soon as possible. In this case, you can stop searching and simply order a product from the master according to your own measurements.
First of all, a potential customer must decide what kind of bed he needs. The procedures here are the same as when choosing a finished bed: you need to evaluate your dimensions, the parameters of the room, as well as the general style of the interior.
When the image of the future bed began to gradually emerge, it is necessary to find a furniture company and a craftsman ready to take on this order. To begin with, you can search among ready-made beds for models that are at least approximately similar to the one presented by the customer. After a sample has been found, you should research the company that produces such models and contact the craftsman who makes them. This will make it easier for the customer to describe the desired model, and the end result will be as similar as possible to what the customer expected.
There is another option: you can immediately contact a company producing custom furniture. However, in this case, the customer must explain as clearly as possible what kind of bed he wants. You can give examples of photographs of similar models so that the master has an idea of what type of bed he will have to make.
When ordering non-standard furniture from a manufacturer, the customer receives a lot of advantages. So he can choose any size and shape of bed that is convenient for him. He can choose the material and color scheme he needs. The customer can be sure that it will fit perfectly into the interior of his bedroom. Moreover, custom-made furniture is one of a kind, and it is very nice to own a unique item.
By ordering furniture and helping the manufacturer draw a sketch, the customer becomes a kind of co-author of the work. He puts a part of himself into the future piece of furniture, which sounds very symbolic.
Of course, the price of custom-made options is higher than the price of ready-made mass-produced furniture, and the mattress and bed linen will also have to be ordered according to individual sizes. However, the inflated price is completely justified. Indeed, for many non-standard apartments with small bedrooms, this option is a necessary strategic decision.
