Bed linen color: recommendations from psychologists, color therapists, Feng Shui specialists

A person spends, if not half, then at least a third of his life in sleep. And his well-being and mood during the waking period most directly depend on the quality of this very “third”. You need to sleep in a comfortable position, on a mattress and pillow, chosen wisely - according to hardness, type of filling, size and other quality characteristics. But a comfortable sleeping place is not all that is needed for a truly sound, pleasant sleep, after which you can wake up feeling fresh, invigorated and rested, capable of moving mountains. The quality of his rest largely depends on what kind of bedding a person uses. And we are talking not only about fabrics, their texture and thread composition, but also about color.

It would seem, what difference does it make whether you lie down in the evening on a blue or white sheet, or cover yourself with a blanket in a green or purple cover? If you literally fall off your feet, closing your eyes as you walk, then most likely there will be no difference. But this state is not inherent to us every day, so on all other evenings, when fatigue is felt moderately, the color of bedding plays a significant role in creating the mood in which a person will fall asleep. In this regard, a completely reasonable question arises: what shades of sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers and mattress covers affect us in the most positive way?

Choosing the shade of bedding attributes

As you know, there is no arguing about tastes, nor about preferences in terms of choosing colors. But it has been experimentally established that the following shades are best conducive to a calm, peaceful rest:

  • violet,
  • green,
  • white,
  • blue,
  • pink,
  • yellow,
  • beige,
  • blue.

What determines the choice of color for bedding attributes? In addition to your personal preferences, it would be good to focus on the style and color scheme of the room in which the sleeping place is located. The color of the bed can be in harmony with other home textiles - the shade of the upholstery of a sofa or armchairs, curtains, tablecloths and the like. Alternatively, the bed can become a kind of bright spot in the room.

Be selective in your art

Any images you hang on your bedroom walls should be inspiring, uplifting or relaxing. One of the best places to hang such an image is on the wall opposite your bed. It will be the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see before you turn off the lights and go to bed. Avoid hanging sad or sad images in your bedroom, or paintings or photographs that show only one person: this symbolizes loneliness.

It is also best to avoid images in which the dominant theme is a lake, waterfall or river. In other parts of the house, water symbolizes money, but in the bedroom it can contribute to financial or relationship losses.

White bed linen set

White bed linen is a classic of the genre and a must-have for all connoisseurs of strict interior design. It’s convenient that such linen can be laid in any room, and it will fit harmoniously into its interior. Whiteness is also associated with carefreeness and relaxation, which, in turn, will lead to thoughts of a gentle fall into sleep.

Get organized

According to Feng Shui, clutter is more than just a distraction, it can block the flow of chi and disrupt your sleep.

Accuracy doesn't just have to be where you can see it. Don't use the space under your bed for storage and keep the inside of your closet tidy and weed out clothes that you don't wear periodically. Keep the “insides” of nightstands and chests of drawers organized by putting books away in drawers or bedside tables.

Pink bed linen

Lovers of delicate pastel colors most often choose pink bedding accessories. This can also be explained by the fact that this color predominates in girls’ children’s rooms, as well as in their wardrobe. Many would probably like to return, at least for a short time, to a carefree childhood full of simple pleasures. This is exactly what the pink tint is associated with in the subconscious.

Structurally, it is a mix of red and white, so when talking about the influence on the human psyche, we can remember how each of these colors is perceived. But, if prolonged exposure to red will be irritating and cause aggression, then for pink this is completely alien.

A pair for everyone

In general, try to find a pair for each element in the space. A pair should have two (ideally) identical bedside tables (one on each side of the bed). Ovals and circles, whether it's the shape of your nightstand or the type of accessories you choose, are better than furniture and accessories with sharp corners or edges.

Yellow linen - beautiful and functional

The color of the bright sun that illuminates everything around is rich yellow. We, like many living creatures on our planet, are directly dependent on solar activity. So on a gloomy day, a bed that can give you a piece of sunshine is exactly what you need. This shade is believed to improve mood. And if we turn to the eastern teachings of Feng Shui, it turns out that yellow is a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Accordingly, by regularly resting in such a bed, a person subconsciously sets himself up to capture monetary energy. This alone may be a reason to get yellow bedding.

Bedspread color in the interior and bedroom design

A couple of decades ago, when choosing bedspreads, the housewife was guided by one principle: the product should be combined with curtains or a carpet. It cannot be said that now this principle has completely sunk into oblivion; it works, but not so strictly.

You shouldn't choose bedspreads and curtains for your bedroom that match each other perfectly, but it is advisable that the texture of these accessories be compatible. For example, if the bedroom has thick curtains, then against their background an openwork satin bedspread will not look entirely harmonious. A set of tapestry or velvet curtains and bedspreads made of the same material looks much nicer.

As for the color matching of the bedspread and the bedroom design, this problem has more rules:

  • Firstly, colored bedspreads and curtains can be combined. But now this solution is used mainly for design in a strict classical style. If the interior of your bedroom is less demanding, you can choose a covering color that harmonizes with the pattern of the curtains, or vice versa.
  • Secondly, the interior looks very beautiful, in which a color is chosen that matches the color of the wallpaper. In this case, it is also appropriate to use both full and partial combinations of shades. For example, if the wallpaper in your bedroom has designs or patterns, choose a bedspread that is the same color.
  • Thirdly, the color of the bedspreads can be combined with the color of the furniture. This solution looks especially good if the bed is part of a single set of furniture and it has a high headboard.
  • Fourthly, the color of the bedroom bedspread is often chosen according to the main color of the interior. Also, in this combination it is not necessary to completely match the shades. For example, if the bedroom is made in blue tones, then the bedspread can be blue, turquoise, etc.
  • And fifthly, modern interiors often use accented bedspreads, the color of which is not necessarily related to the overall design. However, such a solution will look harmonious only if the bedroom is decorated in neutral or pastel colors and the bed is centrally located. For example, the color of the wallpaper and decor can be imagined in beige-sand tones, and the color of the bedspread can be orange.

Beige bed linen

The beige shade is a kind of mix between brown and white. It is classified as a restrained, discreet tone. Using bedding in beige tones is convenient because the shade goes with literally everything. It can be combined with bright and rich or pastel colors. Not everyone will risk laying a bright, for example, red sheet. But many people enjoy using beige bedding. They are pleasing to the eye, do not look too strict or pretentious, and many people associate them with peace and comfort.

Black

Oddly enough, the color of calm. Represents the water element. Helps you fall into a deep, healthy sleep. Paintings depicting the night sky, soft lines and night landscapes are perfect for it.

However, try not to overdo it; an excess of black tones can overshadow a positive mood and cause despondency. Looks great when combined with gold and silver shades. One of the most practical colors.

Color combinations of bed linen

In addition to plain bedding sets, two or even three-color bedding sets are no less popular. For example, pillowcases can be one tone, while mattress and blanket covers can be another. Moreover, the shades are selected not only in contrast, but also from the same color scheme. All kinds of designs and patterns are a very popular decor option.

There are usually several sets of bed linen in the house. And not only light, pastel, but also bright. Depending on your mood or your personal desire, you can cover your bed or sofa with such a sheet and cover yourself with a blanket in such a cover as you want today.

Gray or steel color

A good option for a young man’s room, it represents stability and tranquility. If applied wisely, it can enhance cash flows.

In excess it can cause negative emotions and ruin a good mood; the solution would be to make small accents, in the form of a pillowcase or just a sheet. Coins, moon, fog, transitions from light to dark (ombre) are suitable for images.

Kids clothes

With children's bed linen, not everything is so simple. Sets with cartoon and fairy tale themes are popular. But child psychologists believe that a monochromatic sleep set has a more beneficial effect on a little fidget. Green, yellow, white or blue linen for a child's bed are very good solutions. When choosing accessories for relaxation, it would be good to consult with their future little owner, because putting the child to sleep in a crib that is decorated to his liking will be easier and faster.

You need to choose the colors of bedding based on your wishes, as well as in accordance with the shades that predominate in the bedroom interior. Do not forget about the influence of each color on the psyche and subconscious, especially since the list of shades that have a positive effect in terms of relaxation is quite large.

"No" to mirrors

According to Feng Shui, if you have trouble sleeping at night and suffer from insomnia, the mirror in your bedroom could be the culprit. Mirrors act as a reflector of energy in the bedroom, which can make you feel anxious.

It is especially important not to hang a mirror on the wall opposite the bed. Feng Shui consultants say this can encourage third party intrusion into a couple's relationship and possibly encourage infidelity.

Floral print

Flowers are a symbol of nature, so their influence on humans cannot be negative. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what type of plant is depicted . If you use a bright floral print with large elements, then its impact will be greater than with small and faded inflorescences. An excellent option is microfiber PCB.

The number of colors also matters. The inflorescences will carry much more energy than the “lonely” varieties. The impact is also determined by the flowers themselves, which are depicted on the sheet or pillow.

Here is a table that contains the names of colors and their effects on humans.
