Microfiber bed linen: advantages and disadvantages, reviews

Microfiber, or microfiber, is a synthetic fabric consisting of the finest fibers. The thickness of a human hair can reach 120 microns, while microfiber fiber does not exceed 0.06 microns. The material is used to create knitwear, fabric and even non-woven fabrics. Microfiber is used to make clothing items, furniture upholstery, cleaning accessories, and bedding. Microfiber sleeping sets are very comfortable, easy to care for and pleasant to the touch.

How to choose a good sleeping set

Microfiber bed linen practically does not wrinkle and retains color well.
Unfortunately, you can find low quality underwear on sale, so you should beware of:

  • synthetic materials that pass off as microfiber - their fibers are not so thin and soft, and also lack pores;
  • unscrupulous manufacturers can use toxic dyes, you can also find simply poor-quality dyeing, which will result in faded items;
  • microfiber production is a complex, precise, high-tech process; skilled workers are required to create the fabric, so artisanal production of high-quality products is impossible.

The main sign of low-quality linen is uneven and uneven stitching, loose threads, and errors in the design. To purchase a decent product, you should contact stores with a good reputation. If the consultant is not polite and does not allow you to open the package, then you should be wary - most likely, you are being offered a low-quality product.

When purchasing, you should carefully study the label - it should contain not only the composition and care recommendations, but also the dimensions of the product, equipment, detailed information about the manufacturer with contact information and address.

A fabric is not microfiber if:

  • foreign chemical odors are present;
  • fades and stains things it has been washed with;
  • deformed when washed at the correct temperature.

It is not recommended to use low-quality bedding so as not to cause allergies, rashes, itching and sleep disturbances.

What are the best special pillows?

In addition to pillows for sleeping, there are also decorative and special ones. We will talk specifically about those options that have a special purpose.

For pillows that are too fluffy, you shouldn’t buy narrow pillowcases PHOTO: royal-night.ru

Maternity pillows

As a rule, these options have an individual shape and exclusively natural filling (feather, down, wool). Medicinal herbs are used less frequently. With the help of such devices, the load on the spine is significantly reduced.

Which microfiber wipes are worth buying and which ones should you avoid?

Manufacturers and sellers working in the consumer market approach the promotion of these products persistently and with such imagination that it is sometimes difficult to resist. As they say, “if you don’t oil it, you won’t go, if you don’t deceive, you won’t sell”!

My goal is not to bring anyone to light, but I am going to consider the market offers and can give some recommendations for choice based on my experience.

What properties are not attributed to these napkins, starting with their rare strength and durability and ending with their ability to remove up to 99% of germs without detergents and disinfectants!

Unfortunately, such a presentation has an inevitable side effect. People, confused by unrealistic promises, sometimes expect incredible miracles from microfiber wipes, which inevitably leads to complete disappointment even in high-quality products.

How can you choose a rational option with an acceptable price/quality ratio, when each offered microfiber napkin, of which there are a great many on the domestic household market, according to sellers and manufacturers and regardless of price, is simply... unique?! However, not all of them provide the buyer with complete information about the properties of the napkins - composition, density, etc., limiting themselves only to their sizes. Or they go to the other extreme, presenting their “unique” composition as a special advantage, which in fact differs little from the composition of most other microfiber wipes.

Truth or lie?

Whatever product we choose, we look at it through the prism of the creativity of marketers, whose imagination, judging by the product descriptions on online store sites, is not limited by anything, not even common sense! I was convinced of this myself by studying the properties of microfiber wipes on these sites. Therefore, in order to understand which of them is really worth buying, first of all, we will study all the techniques used by marketing specialists to attract buyers - this will help us understand what is fair and what is absurd in the descriptions of these products.

  • Microfiber cloths are ideal for cleaning all surfaces . Most advertising campaigns in both the consumer and professional markets are based on this statement. If you turn it “inside out”, it turns out that one or several identical napkins from some “unique” brand are enough to clean any room to a shine, regardless of its condition.

In fact, there is nothing magical about microfiber, and simply purchasing a napkin made from this progressive material, even the most advanced one, will not change anything. The fact is that microfiber from different manufacturers differs in properties and quality, which are “inherited” by napkins made from it. The fabric they are made from is made from fibers of different thicknesses, which also affects their performance. Therefore, the universality of microfiber products is out of the question.

There is no napkin that would be equally effective in cleaning surfaces made of different materials with different degrees of wear and different contaminants. Therefore, success depends on choosing the right napkin.

  • Unique microfiber production technology . Even some manufacturers of professional cleaning wipes resort to this trick, describing the unsurpassed properties of their products. And at the same time, they do not allow journalists from even those publications with which they have been cooperating for years into their “secret” workshops where the very “unique” material from which napkins are cut is produced. God forbid, one of them finds out his secret! In fact, there is no secret: all microfiber - both high-quality and not so good - is produced in the Middle Kingdom. The fact is that its production involves a large consumption of resources and is unsafe for the environment. Bringing it into compliance with strict EU laws would require huge investments, making European microfiber products extremely competitive compared to their Asian counterparts.

European manufacturers have no choice but to purchase microfiber from China and other Asian countries. It’s just that the most responsible of them conscientiously control its quality, thanks to which, as well as more advanced technologies for further production, European microfiber products always have consistently high quality and a more attractive appearance.

The composition of microfiber is also no secret: in most cases it contains synthetic fiber made from a mixture of polyester and polyamide.

  • Absorbs more than its weight. In fact, high absorption capacity is one of the main advantages of microfiber due to the peculiarity of its structure. If the purchased napkin does not absorb water well even after washing, then it is made from low-quality microfiber fabric and it belongs in the trash can.
  • Effective in dry and wet form. This is also an inherent feature of all quality microfiber cloths. When using them, two natural factors are involved - static electricity and capillary force. All synthetic materials have a higher charge than their surroundings. A dry wipe, due to its static charge, attracts and holds dry particles.

To remove such complex organic contaminants as stains and splashes in the cooking area, soap deposits on plumbing fixtures and taps, moistened microfiber wipes are used. In this case, capillary force works: dirt is sucked between the thinnest fibers of the napkin material, just as trees suck and lift water from the ground to the leaves at the top.

Any high-quality and properly selected microfiber cloth is effective both in dry and wet conditions - this is not magic, but the norm, regardless of what marketing specialists promise.

  • Eliminates all germs. This is an exaggeration. Microfiber wipes remove dust and other contaminants from surfaces that contain viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms, including pathogens. As for the complete elimination of microorganisms, not every disinfectant can do this.
  • They can withstand up to 2000 washing cycles and last 7-10 years without loss of strength. Similar stunning information is in the description of one microfiber wipe for OZONE. This is probably the most incredible exaggeration that has ever come across my eyes. Even in the professional sphere, manufacturers are much more modest - they promise no more than 500-600 cycles for the highest quality products. In practice, everything depends on the correct methods of use and washing.

What can you buy in domestic online stores?

The range of prices for microfiber wipes for household use in domestic online stores is incredibly wide - from 39 to an incredible 990 rubles per piece. As usual, the products of Western brands occupy the upper and middle price segment, while the lower, according to established tradition, belongs to the products of domestic and Chinese brands.

What's wrong with inexpensive microfiber wipes?

I studied reviews from Russians about microfiber napkins from the following budget brands: “Red Cat” (Russia), Li-Sa (China), ASM (China), Cherir (China), “Chistulya” (Russia), Sol (China), “ Freken Bok" (Russia), "Lyubasha" (Russia). And once again I came to the conclusion that the price of a product does not always reflect its quality. This parameter is also influenced by the appetites of stores, which can “inflate” the price by one and a half to two times! I also became convinced that for every product, regardless of its quality, there is a merchant.

I have compiled a list of things that cause dissatisfaction among users of budget microfiber cloths:

  1. Poor ability to absorb liquid.
  2. Unstable quality – for some napkins, quality changes for the worse.
  3. Loss of color and shape, appearance of “pellets” and holes.
  4. Poor quality overlock stitch that begins to unravel.
  5. New wipes have an unpleasant odor.

I will dwell in more detail on several napkins and sets from the range of the above-mentioned brands.

I’ll start with the cheapest universal napkin Sol made of polyester and polyamide, for which on the Maxidom website they want to get 39 rubles. The dimensions of this napkin are 30 x 30 cm.

Reviews of Sol napkins are contradictory - some think they are frankly of poor quality, while others, on the contrary, find them “effective and soft to the touch.”

Another economical option is the “Lyubasha” universal napkin, which can be purchased at prices from 29 to 68 rubles at OZONE with a discount (full price – 100 rubles).

The dimensions of this microfiber product, the composition of which is not specified, are smaller - 25 x 25 cm, which causes dissatisfaction among users, as well as the fact that, despite the fairly decent density - 180 g/m2, according to reviews, it is too thin, unsightly, “clings to the hands and is too expensive for such terrible quality.”

Another budget option is a set of three ASM microfiber napkins, the composition of which is also not indicated in the description. Now you can buy it at OZONE at a discount for 99 rubles (full price – 120 rubles). It turns out that each of them will cost 33 rubles (40 at full price), which is not bad, considering that the size of these napkins is 40 x 40 cm.

However, the reviews on them are simply devastating - users complain that they have very sparse fabric - even see-through, as well as the fact that they do not absorb moisture well.

Let's compare the ASM set with a set of four Cherir napkins for different purposes - from my point of view, this is a more profitable and convenient option, which is enough to clean almost the entire home. Currently you can buy it on OZONE with a very good discount for 115 rubles, while its full price is 357 rubles. In addition, on the packaging of this set there is a detailed explanation of where and for what each of the napkins can be used, which, you see, is convenient.

The composition of Cherir napkins is polyester (80%), polyamide (20%), size – 30 x 30 cm. The price of each is 28.75/89.25 rubles.

I cannot ignore the products of the Red Cat brand, which are quite popular in our country.

I will focus on two options.

The first of them is a set of 8 napkins, which contain polyester (80%) and polyamide (20%). Their dimensions are 30 x 30 cm. The price of this set ranges from 152 to 305 rubles (OZONE). The price of each napkin is from 19 to 38.13 rubles.

Reviews for the napkins from this set, to my surprise, are not bad, although photos of buyers showing them in all their “glory” indicate their dubious quality. True, many perceive the napkins from this set as something short-lived that they wouldn’t be sorry to part with.

The second option from the “Red Cat” assortment is a gray universal napkin M-02, the composition and dimensions of which are identical to the napkins from the above set, but the price is much higher - 100 rubles for OZONE.

For the most part, the reviews for this napkin are very good. Still, price, although not always, indicates quality! True, incidents do happen with this napkin - despite the price, buyers sometimes receive options made from frankly low-quality microfiber with a rare, almost translucent structure. This can be clearly seen in this photograph of one of OZONE’s clients, who published it on the website of this store.

The same situation applies to products from the Li-Sa brand - a cost-effective set of 10 napkins causes more criticism than a more modestly priced set of two napkins. Moreover, the composition of the products in both sets is the same - polyester (80%) and polyamide (20%).

You don't need to be an expert to notice in the photographs the difference in the quality of these napkins, which also affects the price of the sets themselves. Judge for yourself: buying the first one at OZONE at a discount will cost 231 rubles, with the full price being 274 rubles. The price of each napkin is 23.1/27.4 rubles. The price of the second set there with a discount is 153 rubles, the full set is 174 rubles. The price of each napkin in this case is higher - 76.5/87 rubles.

It is also important that the size of the napkins from the first Li-Sa set is small - only 25 x 25 cm, which does not suit all buyers. At the same time, the size of the napkins from the second set is noticeably larger - 32 x 32 cm and 32 x 43 cm. And the reviews about them are much better - users like the high quality, excellent absorbent properties and their aesthetic appearance, which remains after washing.

Two options of domestic brands.

The first is the “Clean” set of two napkins for cleaning windows. Their size is 35 x 35 cm, composition - polyamide and polyester. Purchasing this set online will cost from 150 to 435 rubles (price per piece – 75/217 rubles).

Such a wide range of prices can be explained by the visual attractiveness of the napkins - in the photo they look simply great, which allows some online stores to raise their prices. As for the reviews about the “Clean” set, it should be noted that a few years ago they were very positive. Today, some users find that their quality has noticeably deteriorated. Some people are not satisfied with a lint-free napkin - it is too thin. And some people finally “discovered America” - they realized that a terry cloth can be used not only for washing windows, but also for other work!

The second option is the universal napkin “Freken Bok”, the price of which in online stores is in the range of 106–144 rubles, and its size is 30 x 30 cm.

The composition of the Freken Bock napkin is the same as most of the napkins discussed here - polyester (80%) and polyamide (20%).

At the same time, opinions about the Freken Bock napkin are much better: users like its quality, ease of use, long service life, and ease of care. One of the lucky owners even called it a “super rag” – what’s not a compliment?!

Advantages of microfiber cloths from Western brands

Based on my experience, I can safely say that in everyday life they are simply indestructible. I have been using my set of napkins from different manufacturers for more than a decade! Their overlock seams do not unravel even with intensive use and frequent washing. They are comfortable, ergonomic, pleasing to the eye and very, very effective!

As for cleaning chemicals, even when working with the highest quality wipes, it’s impossible to completely abandon them. Yes, they can easily cope with dust on furniture without polishes. But when cleaning kitchen equipment - stoves, refrigerators, sinks and even furniture - you cannot do without detergents. But they will be required significantly less compared to traditional cleaning methods, which will reduce the cost of organizing it and the burden on the environment in the home.

The main thing is to find a quality napkin at a reasonable price. And this is not so easy, given the breadth of assortment and prices offered by online stores, which sometimes cause bewilderment, to put it mildly!

Here, for example, is a napkin from the domestic brand HQ Profiline, the price of which with a discount on Wildberries is incredible - 847 rubles, while its full price is 1210 rubles!!!

However, such a napkin in different colors can also be bought at OZONE at a discount for 498 rubles (full price 847 rubles), which is comparable to the price of high-quality professional napkins made in Europe. So what is the beauty of this HQ Profiline product? Maybe a unique composition? No, still the same polyester (80%) and polyamide (20%). Maybe outstanding sizes? Neither – 36 x 36 cm, nothing special.

According to the description on OZON, this napkin “absorbs large amounts of water and dirt, is suitable for large volumes of work, does not leave streaks, does not require wiping dry, does not leave lint on the surface, is extremely wear-resistant, high quality, has a dense overlock, retains its appearance after repeated use.” washable, dries quickly after washing. In essence, these are the properties of an ordinary high-quality professional napkin and, most likely, this HQ Profiline napkin can be purchased cheaper in online stores aimed at a professional audience.

Here are a few more microfiber cloths that are frankly overpriced—even on the professional market they would be considered obscenely expensive.

The first of them - a universal napkin from the Swedish company SMART - is offered at OZONE for 960 rubles!

The natural question is why a regular-type napkin, the dimensions of which are 40 x 40 cm, is so expensive, which is not uncommon for household products? Well, of course, because it is made of a UNIQUE microfiber, which has endowed it with outstanding abilities. It turns out that the SMART wipe “due to its electrostatic effect, will collect dust and microparticles from smooth surfaces: bacteria, fungi, micro-mites.” Actually, bacteria, fungi and micromites are microorganisms! How can you trust a description that contains such errors? Here, by the way, is another one: “It can be used to remove fats from the surface of slabs; it cannot clean old stubborn fats, since they do not dissolve in water.”

Actually, no fats dissolve in water; they are hydrophobic in nature, that is, they repel it! The napkin simply absorbs them into its structure, from where they are removed when washed at a fairly high temperature using chemicals. And to remove old contaminants, a microfiber cloth must be moistened in an alkaline solution or first sprayed onto the contaminated surface and then wiped.

But there’s a lot you can do to sell as expensively as possible on the consumer market something that costs half as much on the professional market!

For example, I found a very advantageous offer on Yandex Market - five excellent professional microfiber napkins MicroTuff Base from Vileda Professional measuring 36 x 36 cm for only 691 rubles (138.2 rubles per piece)! This is very inexpensive for high-quality products that will last in everyday life for a very, very long time.

At the same time, a SMART set for motorists consisting of only two napkins is offered to everyone who wants to use OZONE for 1,880 rubles!

The dimensions of one of these napkins (for cleaning glass) are 40 x 50 cm, the second, universal one, is 40 x 40 cm. One of its sides is smooth, the other with lint, which, according to marketers, “makes it easy to remove dust and stuck dirt without scratching the coating." Actually, this is not surprising - any high-quality microfiber cloth has the same “magical” abilities even at a more modest price and is not able to scratch the surface. Considering that the fibers of such napkins are much thinner than human hair, this is simply impossible.

Reviews of the napkins from the SMART set are positive - according to users, they are effective and convenient both when caring for the car and when cleaning at home: o. They wouldn't do this at such and such a price!

Another napkin, which is offered by another Swedish brand - Smart House - for... the bathroom. A typical example of a dubious approach to promoting goods specifically in the consumer market, which forces gullible buyers to buy unnecessary, duplicate products!

The price of the Smart House napkin for OZONE is impressive - 707 rubles with a discount (full price - 850 rubles). Its dimensions are 40 x 40 cm.

The description on the OZONE website states that this napkin can not only “easily clean bathroom walls and tiled surfaces,” but also that “it can be used to wipe household appliances, pots, plates, and pans.” At the same time, the fact that this Smart House product (like the universal napkin from the SMART set) has one smooth side and the other with a pile, allows the description to call it “unique of its kind.”

To be honest, all these statements are unfounded. Information about napkins published on online shopping sites, especially in the consumer market, often lacks the most important indicator - their density, that is, the weight of one square meter. The greater the weight in this ratio, the denser the napkin and the more contaminants it can absorb and retain in its structure. Actually, based on this parameter, along with the size and type (woven, non-woven, with or without lint), napkins for professional cleaning are selected, which saves companies from pointless purchases.

Fortunately, today ordinary citizens have such an opportunity. For example, the products of the Chinese brand Paterra are accompanied by comprehensive information. This brand’s product range also includes professional-grade microfiber wipes, which are sold in online stores and in the consumer market.

The first product I will talk about is a high-density napkin for general cleaning PROFESSIONAL Paterra, which can be purchased for an amount from 75.64 rubles (Sima Land) to 116 rubles (OZONE).

The composition of this napkin is polyester (70%) and polyamide (30%), density 300 g/m², size 35 x 35 cm. According to the description, it is “suitable for any surface, perfectly absorbs moisture, attracts dirt, dust and holds them. Works effectively both wet and dry.”

Here’s what users think about it: “it wipes everything clean, it’s just a pleasure to deal with it”, “you can wipe off the dust on the window sills and wash the glass”, “it does its job perfectly, is pleasant to the touch, can be used without the use of chemicals ", "durable, easily copes with dust and dirt", "excellently absorbs moisture, does not leave streaks."

The Paterra brand also includes a comprehensive cleaning solution - a set of napkins for various purposes, which can be purchased at OZONE for 279 rubles.

This set includes three napkins, also of high density (300 g/m²): for cleaning in the kitchen and bathroom, for cleaning furniture, for polishing glass and mirrors. Their composition is the same as that of a universal napkin - polyester (70%) and polyamide (30%), but the size is larger - 30 x 40 cm. According to the description, these napkins are suitable for cleaning any dirt.

Here’s what users write: “The napkins do their job well, the green one even washed heavy stains in the microwave, after moistening them with water,” “They cope with the task with a bang,” “I especially liked the cloth for glass and mirrors, it wipes the mirror without special tools! Now I’m looking for one like this separately,” “Convenient napkins for different needs.”

I’ll also tell you about the Optima microfiber napkin from the Scotch-Brite brand, 3M (USA). The fact is that my acquaintance with microfiber began many years ago with a very similar napkin from this brand, both in color and texture. It was given to me in 2004, and it is still alive and fully functional. I use it to clean microwaves and other household appliances, which it does with success!

However, the Scotch-Brite Optima napkin is much inferior to mine in size, which, from my point of view, is insufficient even for household use - 23 x 23 cm - like a handkerchief! And if you fold it in half, as professionals usually do, to get eight working surfaces? Seven hats from one skin, like in the famous cartoon?

Despite the pleasant picture in the first photo, where the stove is cleaned, judging by its size, with a professional napkin, the excessively compact dimensions of the product in the second will not allow the user to fully enjoy its benefits.

What are the other characteristics and purpose of Scotch-Brite Optima household wipes? Composition – polyester (88%) and polyamide (12%), density 200 g/m2. “It is suitable for dry and wet cleaning without the use of chemicals. Effective in removing the toughest stains. Absorbs perfectly and dries quickly. Soft and durable material. Long service life." I agree with each of these statements. My fifteen years of experience in using a professional analogue, the dimensions of which are larger - 30 x 40 cm, have proven this.

As for the price of the Scotch-Brite Optima household napkin, in the Komus online store they will ask for 108 rubles for it, on the website of the official 3M store it can be purchased at a discount for 83 rubles (full price - 97 rubles). User reviews of these napkins are not bad : some consider them the best, others consider them nothing special.

It is a pity that the 3M company, in order to make its products competitive in the Russian market after 2014, is cutting the size of its napkins. I encountered this for the first time when, several years ago, out of habit, without looking at the packaging, I bought absorbent sponge wipes, the size of which suddenly became indecently small. I had to switch to similar products from the household brand Vileda.

In its assortment, by the way, there are microfiber napkins of a full size - 30 x 30 cm - that are more attractive in terms of price/quality ratio. For example, a set of four universal napkins Vileda Colors, which can be bought with a discount on OZONE for 281 rubles (full price - 312 rub.). Or on the official website of the brand itself, where the purchase will cost 299 rubles.

The Vileda Colors kit will be enough to bring order to all rooms of any home. They can be distributed depending on the color by zone - for the kitchen, bathroom, furniture and glass surfaces.

Reviews about these napkins are quite good: “Vileda has always been distinguished by its quality. Not a professional series, but copes with dust and dirt perfectly and without chemicals”, “Excellent napkins. They wash well”, “Many colors - functional”.

You can also opt for similar solutions from the Paclan brand (Poland), which has long been present in our country in the professional and household markets. For example, on the Paclan Practi set of four napkins of different colors, the size of which is also 30 x 30 cm. Its discounted price in the Komus online store is 159 rubles (full price 203.01 rubles).

Paclan Practi wipes are quite dense - 240 g/m2, which suggests they have such advantages as efficiency, durability and long service life. This is confirmed by user reviews: “They absorb well and remove dirt. They don't leave streaks. They wash well, do not lose color, and do not deform. Good size - fits comfortably in the hand”, “excellent cleaning cloths, multi-colored, you won’t get confused with what to wipe with”, “The best cloths! Very pleasant, do not cling”, “The best of these napkins, very durable.”

I guess that's enough for today. In conclusion, I will say that the main thing when choosing microfiber wipes, as, indeed, any other products, is not to be deceived by generous promises, a fair share of which are “sucked out of thin air” by people who themselves are not very well versed in what they are trying to do. “to move to the broad masses.” Always carefully study product descriptions and user reviews.

If you are completely disappointed in household wipes, then you can look at the professional market - there are many interesting options, the price of which may pleasantly surprise you!
