We sew a belt to trousers with an elastic band not covering the entire circumference

Kuliska

Drawstring is a stitched or folded strip of fabric that forms a “groove” into which an elastic band or lace is pulled. Most often, drawstring is used in children's and sportswear: on the waistband of trousers, skirts or along the waistline, for example, of a jacket.

The drawstring is sewn very simply and our master class will tell you how to sew a drawstring from additional fabric, and also show how to make a drawstring in the seam allowance and hem.

How to sew an elastic band to a dress at the waist step by step

1. On the wrong side, I mark the waist line, where the elastic will go, using a tailor's chalk. There, in the middle of the front of the sundress, I mark two holes for threading the cord. They look like buttonholes with a diameter of 1 cm and spaced 2 cm apart.

2. I prepare the kuliska. This is a rectangle with sides:

  • length = waist length,
  • width = 3 cm.

If, like me, you don’t have a free piece of fabric left, you can take a piece of similar color. All the same, the drawstring will remain on the wrong side.

I iron it with the ends inward.

3. I glue the area with adhesive cloth where there will be holes for threading the cord.

4. On the front side I make two loops on a sewing machine, like under buttons in the places for threading the cord. As I said above, the diameter of the loop is 1 cm. I cut each loop with a steam ripper.

5. I put the drawstring on the sundress from the wrong side. I fasten it in a circle along the waistline using tailor's pins. It is more convenient to carry out this process by putting the product on an ironing board. At the junction of the drawstring, I simply overlap it.

6. I sew the drawstring to the sundress using a sewing machine, retreating from the edge by 1 mm.

7. I put a safety pin on one end of the elastic and thread it through the hole for the cord.

8. I connect the ends of the elastic using a sewing machine.

The tail of the elastic must be completely pushed inside the drawstring.

9. I thread the cord for the drawstring in the same way, only I bring it out into the next hole.

10. Now you need to put plastic tips on the ends of the cord and the drawstring is ready!

Hi all! I hope the weather outside doesn’t spoil your mood too much, and I’m learning to find joyful moments in the damp and bad weather, although my favorite running will have to be postponed. Today I have a school uniform at work, or rather a sundress. I sewed it just before the school year, but my daughter doesn’t particularly like it due to its loose fit. Therefore, I decided to make it according to the figure, and show you how to sew an elastic band to the dress at the waist to the finished product. This method is good because you can quickly and easily change the style of the model, and any novice seamstress can handle it.

Pants with elastic: little secrets of a good choice

A modern woman should look stylish and appropriate in any situation, and have time to complete all the tasks she has set for herself. To do this, you need to choose makeup, hairstyle, clothes, shoes, accessories in accordance with today's fashion, body type and mood, while feeling comfortable, otherwise inconvenience can cancel out all efforts and ruin your mood for a long time.

Just 100 years ago, women were tied into tight corsets and had difficulty moving in full skirts. The First World War forced us to try on trousers for the economical use of raw materials and for greater mobility in helping the military and the wounded. And women appreciated the comfort of these clothes. Since then, trousers have become an integral part of the active woman's wardrobe.

In 2021, the main features of women's trousers are a high waist and an elasticated waistband. The rubber band can be:

Hidden under the main fabric;

Wide or narrow;

Various in density;

With rope, braid or tape in the drawstring;

With a wide belt-tie made of the same or contrasting fabric.

Popular models and styles

Culottes are short, loose-fitting trousers;

Pants length 78;

Jogger pants - with elastic bands at the bottom, a la sports;

1. The elastic band should not dig into the sides! It must be strictly in size.

2. The fit should be perfect: no bulging pockets or creases at the seams.

Constructing a pattern

The ease of making varieties is ensured by the pattern. The main drawing of a thing allows you to model it in the future. You can take the pattern of a straight skirt or an A-line model as a basis.

The pattern of a skirt with an elastic band with a fold in the middle consists of two parts - front and back. The drawing is based on measuring the volume of the hips, taking into account allowances, divided by 4.

  1. Draw a bottom line. There is a straight line from it up - this is the length of the product.
  2. Outline the waist level, below - the hip level.
  3. Draw a vertical line on the side, setting aside ¼ of the hip circumference from the middle of the canvas and shortening the waist line by 4 cm. Draw a straight line through the two points obtained. The thing can be expanded downwards by increasing the slope of the side line.
  4. Extend the bottom of the product according to its length.
  5. Make sure that the waist line intersects the side line at a right angle. From the center of the waist line, make a perpendicular to the side line. The bottom is built in the same way.
  6. The middle and side lines of the pattern should be almost the same length.
  7. The quadrupled length of the waistline in the drawing exceeds the original waist measurement.
  8. Round the corners of the straight waist and bottom.
  9. Duplicate the drawing to obtain the construction of the second part.
