What do we need to sew a skirt like this with gathering and button closure without a pattern?!
- A piece of fabric - the length is equal to 2 lengths of the skirt plus 20 cm, with a width of 140-160 cm (it can be linen, suit thin wool, thick cotton);
- Buttons - 7-10 pieces;
- Sewing machine;
- Threads;
- Hand needle, pins for chopping, measuring tape, ruler, scissors, sheet of thick cardboard.
Types of long skirts
A floor-length skirt suits almost everyone. With the right choice of color and cut, a long skirt will complement any type of female figure.
It will highlight the advantages or hide the disadvantages. You can sew a year, corrugated or with folds, sun or semi-sun, with a belt or with an elastic band. A wrap skirt will look stylish. For those who are taking their first steps in sewing, it is better to choose a style that does not require complex cutting.
Girl's outfit
Every mother tries to buy beautiful clothes for her baby. You can please your child with a product you created yourself. To do this, you need to learn how to sew a skirt for a girl with your own hands. First of all, they select a model and go to the store to buy fabric.
Lightweight cotton materials are ideal for baby clothing. A tatyanka skirt looks great on a girl. To make it you will need a rectangular cloth and an elastic band.
You should stitch the seam, and then sew the workpiece to the elastic. All that remains is to process the bottom.
The elastic band can be hidden with a cloth. To do this, the top cut is folded, leaving room for the elastic band.
Skirt with elastic
Ideal for summer. It can be made from either variegated or plain fabric. Light flowing fabric will give you a slim look. The simplest option does not require a pattern:
- It is necessary to measure the length of the future product (D), waist circumference (T) and hips (B): D = 1 m; add 4 cm to the elastic and 2-3 to the hem; T = 64; B = 96 plus seam allowances of 1 cm on each side.
- Fold the fabric in half, measure the length to 107 cm. The minimum width of a skirt with an elastic band is equal to the volume of the hips with an increase of 2-3 cm for a loose fit. It is optimal to add 15-20 cm. If the width of the fabric allows, you can make one seam. It can be behind or on the side. From the fold along the waist line, set aside 1/2 (96 + 20) = 58 and add seam allowances. We measure the same amount along the bottom line. Cut out a rectangle and sew it together.
- At the top we make a double hem for the elastic and turn in the bottom edge. We measure the elastic according to the waist and add it to the seam. Thread it with a pin and sew it together.
It is better to make a slit in a long, straight skirt. It will allow you to move more freely. A high side slit will add a slim silhouette. If the product has two seams, cuts can be on both sides.
You can sew a slightly flared skirt with elastic with seams on the sides. The pattern will be simple:
- The front and back parts are cut equally. Fold the fabric in half and measure the length to 107 cm. Along the waist line, set aside 1/4 of the hip circumference. You can add less than with a straight cut. 12 cm will be enough. 1/4 (96 + 12) = 27.
- We measure 33 cm along the bottom line and connect this point with the mark at the top. It turned out to be inclined, along it from the bottom line up we put 1 cm and slightly round the lower part. We add an increase to the side seams.
- We sew together two cut panels. We thread the elastic band and process the bottom edge.
Pleated skirt
A skirt with counter pleats or bow pleats will look fluffy and light.
For this style it is better to choose soft material. Folds of dense fabric will visually enlarge the hips.
Step-by-step instruction:
- It is necessary to measure the waist circumference (T = 76 cm) and the length of the product (L = 80 cm). The width of the fold will be 6 cm.
- Add 2 cm to the waist and divide by 6 (the width of the pleat), it turns out 13. This is the number of pleats on the skirt. Multiply by 12 (counter fold depth) and add 8 cm for seam allowances. All that remains is to add the waist size. You need 240 cm. With a fabric width of 150 cm, you will need two lengths.
- Sew the side seam on one side. We make small cuts on the fabric along the waist line so that it is convenient to fix the folds. We lay bow folds and pin them with needles. Cut off the remaining fabric. Finished folds need to be stitched. Then we make the second side seam.
- The width of the belt will be 10 cm (plus seam allowances), the length is equal to the waist circumference plus an allowance of 4-6 cm. We pin the belt on the front side and stitch it. We wrap the belt on the wrong side and sew.
Folds can be laid from the sides to the center. In this version, there will be one opposing fold in front and behind.
The depth of the folds should be adjusted depending on the characteristics of the figure.
Wrap skirt
This unique style will suit any body type. It is necessary to take two measurements: waist circumference and product length. We smell from right to left. The skirt can be made with a belt or with ties, with a straight or rounded wrap.
Straight fit with ties
For a straight cut, the basic pattern of a skirt with darts is taken as a basis. Construction sequence:
- We measure the required length. The waistline can be made lower. On the front and back panels of the main pattern, put 3 cm down and draw a line that follows the contour of the waist.
- For the smell, you need to add at least 1/8 of the circumference of the hips (on each side) in the middle of the front panel - 12-15 cm. For the hem, add 4-6 cm.
- We sew on a belt-tie 1.5-2 cm wide. The length of the ties on each part of the panel is 1 m. They are made of fabric, you can use braid.
- We make loops on the sides in order to secure the ties that we wrap around the waist.
- Turn up the bottom of the skirt.
Half sun on the belt
An elongated or floor-length skirt with a rounded wrap looks very feminine. The pattern is simple:
- The cut is based on a semicircle. We take fabric along the length of the skirt. Fold the front side inward. You need to take one measurement - waist circumference, taking into account the smell.
- In the corner of the folded fabric, set aside half the measurement and draw a waist line. Mark the length and draw a bottom line. Round off the edges of the smell. After that we cut it out.
- The edges can be finished with leather or braid.
- For the belt, measure out a strip, the length of which is equal to the measurement (waist size and smell). Width 10 cm. Sew on the belt and attach the buttons.
Long skirts never go out of style. A narrow floor-length skirt with a high side slit looks stylish and gives a slim figure. The straight cut goes well with a loose, fluffy blouse or sweater. A fitted top is more suitable for wide skirts. A maxi skirt looks perfect with high heels or wedges. A loose long wrap skirt with ties is indispensable in the hot summer.
