In this tutorial we will try to make our own children's hairpins from foamiran and hairpins with flowers to decorate any hairstyle.
What is foamiran?
Foamiran is a thin synthetic material 2 mm thick, which is also called artificial suede, revelur, foam or fom. Many people confuse foam with foms, but this is a completely different material, which is most often used to make children's toys.
The main suppliers of foamiran are Iran and China, only Iranian foam is of better quality than Chinese, although more expensive. You can work with both. The visual difference will be obvious only in the color of the materials - Iranian Revelure is brighter. Otherwise, the characteristics of foamiran from China and Iran are the same:
- The material is odorless and has no toxins, so it can be used without fear for your health. The only thing that may confuse you is the specific aroma that appears after opening the package of foam. However, after an hour it will disappear forever, and you will no longer feel it.
- It is easy to model figures from foamiran because it is very flexible. When heated, the foam may acquire its original appearance, but it is important to take precautions so as not to overheat the revelour, as this will cause it to deteriorate and become unsuitable for work.
- Foamiran can be painted and washed. The uniqueness of this material is that it does not absorb water.
- The texture of the foam is very soft, one might even say porous. It is pleasant to hold in your hands and convenient to work with. But if you accidentally press it down with some sharp object, it will leave a dent that will be impossible to remove.
- Foamiran is easily glued together with a heat gun and cut out with scissors, a stationery knife and special hole punches.
Considering all the features of this unique material, it is easy to guess what excellent jewelry can be created from it. They look especially beautiful on hair accessories.

What's a holiday without this decoration?
For the wreath we will need:
- Green foamiran;
- Glue;
- Scissors;
- Lots of shiny decorations;
- Ribbon.

From a material such as foamiran, you can make realistic flowers that are difficult to distinguish from real ones from afar. Moreover, even a child can make beautiful flower buds from foam. In this matter, the main thing is to decide which flowers you want to make, because the technique for making them will differ from each other. In this article we will present several master classes on making different colors for foamiran hairpins.
Hairpin with a rose from foamiran
Roses are everyone’s favorite flowers, which always look solemn and luxurious not only in their natural form, but also as decoration on hairpins for girls made of foamiran. From the huge number of shades in which foam is presented, you can choose any one for making roses. We will present an example of making such a classic red rosebud and revelour:
For work we will need the following material:
- Several sheets of foamiran
- Scissors or utility knife
- Hot-melt gun or any other quick-drying glue
- Decorative elements - rhinestones, beads or seed beads
- Special base for petal formation
You will need all these accessories when creating any flower, as they are basic. Therefore, in the course of describing the procedure for creating other colors, we will no longer return to this issue.
Let's return to making a rose from faux suede. The first thing to do is to prepare the petals of the future bud. To do this, draw large drops of the same size on one sheet of foamiran, and then carefully cut them out. After this, give each petal a shape. This is done very simply: heat the iron to 120 degrees, apply a petal to it to heat it up. When heated, the foam becomes plastic - it can be stretched, compressed and modified. The petal of the rose we offer should look like this:
While the petals are hot, the pointed side should be slightly squeezed into an accordion. This will give them a more natural appearance. Then find a small foam ball and start gluing the petals to it one by one using a heat gun, overlapping each other in a clockwise direction.
When several of these flowers are ready, you can add green leaves to them, in exactly the same way as petals cut from foam. As a result, you will get a hairpin like this:
Hairpin with dandelion made of foamiran
Dandelion seems at first glance to be a simple and unattractive flower. However, it is from this sunny plant that we weave wreaths in the spring and decorate our heads with them. Only a wreath made from real dandelion will quickly wither, but if you use flowers made from foamiran, you can decorate your hair with this headband with dandelions all year round:
In addition to the already known material that you may need to create a dandelion, you may also need a knitting needle and curly scissors. For one flower you will need two strips of foam 50 cm long and 2 cm wide. One edge of each strip must be cut off with curly scissors. When you have done this, make a fringe like this from each strip:
We recommend rolling each individual strip of fringe into tubes. This is an optional step, but thanks to it your future flower will sparkle much more interestingly. Now each fringe needs to be heated with an iron so that it curls. After this, the strips must first be rolled into an unblown dandelion:
Glue all the strips well with a heat gun. After this, the flower can be “dissolved”: heat each side with an iron, and then turn the petals in the opposite direction to get a realistic dandelion bud:
Having made several of these flowers, glue green foam leaves to them for brightness, and then attach them to any base - a headband or a hair tie.
Hairpin with chamomile made of foamiran
A banal field chamomile will look beautiful on the hair of romantic and sophisticated girls. In this master class we suggest attaching the resulting flower to an elastic band.
How to make a chamomile out of foam:
- Make three white circles with a diameter of 9 cm on white foamiran;
- Cut a straw 2 cm wide from yellow foam and make a fringe on it - the center for the flower will be made from it by twisting it into a tube;
- On the white circles, make cuts shaped like chamomile petals;
- Heat the tips of the petals with an iron and slightly round them;
- Now glue the yellow core to the white petals of one daisy circle;
- Now glue two more circles to the resulting blank from below so that the petals are located in relation to each other in a checkerboard pattern.
As a result, you should end up with these beautiful daisies:
Hairpin with lily from foamiran
Lily is a very delicate flower that any girl will like. It can be made very simply from foam, you just need to show a little imagination and patience. We recommend following the following algorithm of actions:
- Cut out lily petals from cardboard, there should be about 6 of them;
- From these blanks, make petals from foamiran, and then give them waviness and texture by heating and stretching the petals;
- Make a brown tint at the base of the petals and put several dots on them;
- Make pistils and stamens from wire and pieces of foam. The length of the wire should not exceed 3 cm;
- Glue the petals together in a checkerboard pattern using a heat gun;
- Attach the pistils and stamens to them;
- When the flower is collected, add green leaves to it and attach the bud to the fittings:
Hairpin with poppy from foamiran
Poppy is a simple but vibrant flower. That is why even in ancient times it was often woven into wreaths. In our time, it has not lost its relevance. We suggest you create a poppy from foam, following the following sequence of actions:
- Cut out poppy petals from red foam and give them a wavy shape (like lilies);
- From green foam, prepare green leaves and a circle to decorate the core;
- Thread a wire through the bead and wrap it with green foam;
- Make a core from black foam (following the example of a dandelion);
- Wrap the green bead with black foam and secure everything in this form with glue;
- Glue poppy petals clockwise and in a checkerboard pattern around the core;
- Attach the finished bud to the accessories in the form of a clothespin.
How to make decoration
First you need to cut the foamiran into strips 3 centimeters wide and 10 centimeters long.
After this, fold one of the resulting foamiran sticks in half and cut off the ends so that the product takes on a more rounded shape.
The resulting part needs to be glued to a strip of a different color (to the one where you did not cut off the ends). Between these two “layers” you need to insert a bamboo stick.
Now you need to remove excess foamiran, according to the contour of the “rounded” part.
Using a bamboo stick, rotate the piece until it looks like a spiral.
Carefully cut off the protruding piece of the stick so that it protrudes about a centimeter.
Now you need to glue a beautiful thread to the resulting tip.
By the way, the tip can be decorated using the same foamiran. Any color will do.
At the final stage of creating our New Year's toy, it is necessary to smear the edges of the product with glue and decorate them with small beads that we prepared in advance. Larger beads should be glued to the middle of the product.

This bow on a hair clip can be a real decoration for your hair or a great gift. To make it we will use:
- tape with a width of 4 centimeters;
- tailor's pins;
- decoration for the central part of the bow;
- scissors;
- ruler;
- thread and needle;
- hot glue;
- lighter.
Let's get to work and look at how to make hairpins from satin ribbons with your own hands:
- Cut the tape into several separate strips.
Four pieces are needed with a length of 22 centimeters and two with a length of 13 centimeters. From these we will prepare the details for the bow. - We take one short strip, connect the edges and fasten them with a tailor's pin. Now you will need a large strip, measure 2 centimeters from the edge, carefully bend and iron this area. Now we bend the strip so that a triangle is formed at the top, and one edge is placed at the level of the fold of the second.
- Bend the top corner down. Fold the product in half, with the corner on the outside. We secure the workpiece with a tailor's pin. Four such parts need to be made.
- We collect the bow. We sew each prepared part at the bottom. All blanks must be stitched with one thread. Remove the pins and tighten the ribbons. We wrap the central part of the bow with thread and stitch it.
- We straighten the ribbons. We glue a hairpin on the back side. We decorate the central part with a thin ribbon and glue it too. We decorate the bow with decorations on the outside.
These wonderful hairpins are made from satin ribbons.

- We heat the mold. Place a sheet of foamiran on it and press down. We fill it with pieces of foamiran. On top is glue from a hot gun. We cover it all with another sheet of foamiran and press it down with our fingers.
- Using the same scheme, we form the second (back) part.
- We cut off the excess. From it we make additional parts: a nickel, ears.
- We connect 2 parts.
