Household
The most commonly used household products are specifically designed for dyeing thick denim material. The most popular means are:
- Aniline-based dyes are ideal for dyeing jeans. They are produced in dense packaging, which contains a description of the entire procedure for coloring the material. It is important to follow the instructions exactly. To obtain black, red or other colors, you can mix different shades. Due to this mixing, the creation of a truly unique and interesting product is guaranteed. It is advisable to choose formulations that do not need to be diluted yourself, as they have better durability. Paint is applied to the fabric with soft brushes. Aniline spreads well, so this property ensures the creation of a unique pattern;
- acrylic paints - this product is highly durable and dries quickly. After completing the process, you can immediately wash your jeans using powder or treat them with other detergents that do not change their color. When using this tool, you can embody the most original and unique ideas. Painting is usually carried out using brushes, and it is recommended to select a sketch in advance on the basis of which the painting will be carried out. The color is chosen independently, and after that the pattern is carefully applied to the trouser legs with tassels. The pattern is fixed with a hot iron, and it only needs to be applied through gauze and on the wrong side of the jeans;
- dyes sold in powder form. This product is considered easy to use. Most often used for dyeing things using a washing machine. The procedure is considered quick and simple, since you do not have to put in a lot of effort. But at the same time, the resulting shades are not too saturated and bright;
- aerosol paints - they are effectively used to decorate any item of clothing. When using stencils and blanks, you can get truly unique patterns. The dyeing procedure does not involve complex actions, since you just need to select a mode on the washing machine using hot water. Dilon is added to the compartment intended for washing powder. Jeans should be washed and dried beforehand. Next, they are placed in the drum, after which the machine is turned on. After the end of the process, you need to start washing again, but this uses washing powder, and it is important to choose a product with a minimum amount of aggressive substances in the composition. At the end of the procedure, the rinse mode is turned on.

Folk
To create designs on jeans, many people use numerous folk remedies that were used back in Soviet times. Such methods are effective and simple, but do not always guarantee lasting and reliable results.
Whiteness is considered the ideal solution for dyeing jeans. Back in Soviet times, it was used to make boiled jeans. The procedure for using this tool is considered incredibly simple:
- Initially, a small glass of white is diluted in a bucket filled with water;
- then the jeans are rolled up and secured in this state in several areas with a thick elastic band;
- the product is immersed in a previously prepared container filled with a solution;
- the bucket warms up evenly over the fire, the process will take about 15 minutes;
- It is important to ensure that the jeans do not float up.
If the procedure is carried out on black or blue jeans, then large and beautiful patterns appear on them.
Another way to change the color of a wardrobe item involves using hair dye. After using this method, each girl can say that she drew unique patterns on her own. All you need to do is follow these steps:
- black hair dye is selected, and you should make sure in advance that it does not contain ammonia, but only natural pigments;
- shimmers or shades are not allowed, so only black paint is used;
- for some jeans you need to purchase two packs;
- The dye is diluted in a large amount of water without the use of other additives or oxidizing agents;
- the resulting solution is mixed well, as a homogeneous consistency should be obtained;
- Jeans are placed in the liquid and then left in it for an hour and a half;
- For uniform dyeing, it is recommended to periodically press the jeans a little and also turn them over regularly;
- You should use gloves while working, as the dye has a negative effect on the skin;
- After completing the procedure, you should rinse the item well;
- Next, the clothes are immersed in a solution of vinegar for about 20 minutes, and to ensure a good fixation of the shade, it is advisable to additionally use table salt, for which 1 tablespoon of salt is used per 1 liter of water.
Using hair dye is quite simple, but the result is not long-lasting enough, so the jeans will fade every time you wash them. The next method involves using ink designed for felt-tip pens. To do this, the felt-tip pens are disassembled, after which the rods are lowered into cold water. After the water turns black, the jeans are immersed in the liquid. The item is kept in the solution for at least one hour.
Another popular method of dyeing jeans involves the use of potassium permanganate. This method is considered not too simple, but with proper use of the product, an interesting and durable result is guaranteed. Using potassium permanganate, an unusual shade of the material is obtained. When using potassium permanganate, you do not need to boil the jeans, which greatly simplifies the dyeing procedure.
The process is divided into the following stages:
- 80 grams of potassium permanganate is mixed with 120 ml of 9% vinegar and 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide;
- the resulting composition is mixed with water in a ratio of 2:1;
- jeans are rolled into a rope and then secured with white elastic bands;
- the product is lowered into the resulting mixture;
- in this state, the jeans should be kept for about 20 minutes, it is important to ensure that the product is located at the bottom all the time;
- then the jeans are pulled out and rinsed well;
- Rinse in the machine twice; it is recommended to use liquid washing powder for this. After the procedure, jeans are dried in the usual way, but not on a hot radiator.
Often even brilliant green is used to dye jeans. It will give things a unique emerald hue. The process is divided into stages:
- brilliant green is diluted in a large amount of water, and the solution must be added until the desired shade is obtained;
- the resulting solution is thoroughly mixed;
- jeans are dipped into the existing mixture;
- the product is kept for 30 minutes;
- To ensure even coloring, you should regularly turn the jeans over;
- After the process is completed, the jeans are taken out and rinsed well, and for this it is advisable to use a solution with the addition of vinegar.
Often, many people want the product to turn blue, because dark blue fabric looks bright and attractive. Available and inexpensive bluing can be used for this. It is easy to use, but the result obtained is not very durable or stable.
You can even use different vegetables, berries or herbs for coloring. But the new shade lasts for a limited amount of time, and soon the color ceases to be saturated.
Professional dyeing of clothes and fabrics
Some dry cleaners offer textile dyeing services, in particular denim. The cost of such a service depends on the city, the size and weight of the product, as well as the materials used by specialists. As a rule, the price of dyeing size M jeans is about 700–1000 rubles.
The advantages of this service include a guarantee of good results. Specialists with experience have a better chance of performing high-quality, uniform dyeing of fabric. The disadvantages, in addition to the price, include the need to part with the product for a week, or even more.
Selection rules
When choosing a product that allows you to change the color of jeans, you should consider some rules:

- in order not to spoil other things, dyed jeans are washed separately;
- to fix the shade, pour a little table vinegar into the rinsing water;

Jeans / Universal fabric dye, Green, 20g.
I dyed my jeans in the machine, everything dyed evenly!
A child touched bottles of bleach with his knees in a store, and they were leaking. I was looking for paint for a long time and was thinking whether to take this one or not?! It’s a pity for the overalls, almost new (I ordered this paint, I decided that the color of the box corresponded to the fact. The instructions were of course complicated, but I followed strictly her, because I wanted an excellent result. But when I diluted the paint, I realized that the color would be different, the color was more towards dark blue-green... I fiddled for a long time, kept squeezing the suit so that it would be painted evenly, but initially, of course, I only soaked the bottom, which needed help. As a result, after completing the entire procedure, I realized that the color had been renewed and darkened. But the problem itself did not disappear.. Added to it was an ugly dirty blue color on the lace, zipper and emblem.. And the spots themselves became blue.. Therefore, I think that this product can be used as a color freshener, but not as a dye for clothes, because it didn’t even cope with white stains and didn’t dye them green.. But this is my personal experience and my opinion..(((
In principle, it painted over well. But! It is necessary to dilute the dye thoroughly and only then put the item down, otherwise dark stains from the dye will remain on the fabric
Preparing things for update
It is not possible to refresh the color of your favorite jeans immediately after wearing them: the paint will lie unevenly and will not adhere well.
Sequence of actions before staining:
- All foreign objects are removed from pockets.
- The trouser legs are turned right side out.
- Wash jeans with powder at + 40 ᵒC, choosing a gentle cycle.
- The fabric is bleached by boiling it for half an hour in a solution of “Whiteness” with water (1:10). This allows the new paint to lay flat.
- After bleaching, the jeans are rinsed in running water several times.
- Then wash again in a machine without powder at +40 ᵒC.
Paint is applied only to damp, wrung out fabric.
How not to spoil something
When dyeing at home, it is important not to spoil your favorite item. You need to do everything possible to make it look like new.
To maintain the appearance of your trousers, you need to:
- follow the instructions indicated on the dye packaging;
- do not add large amounts of chlorine for bleaching: it can damage the fabric structure;
- properly prepare the canvas for painting so that the pigment lies evenly;
- after dyeing, the jeans are rinsed in water with the addition of 1-2 tbsp. l. vinegar (acid helps fix the dye to the fabric);
- For the procedure, it is best to use purchased professional dyes rather than improvised means - this way the effect will be more predictable;
- If you have an old thing that you don’t wear when going out, you can practice on it.
When jeans are dyed with herbal substances or improvised means, it is important to carefully follow all recommendations.
