The step-up is found in many well-known brands of trousers. This is the stitch that connects two pieces at the groin area. The indicator allows you to select clothes and perform tailoring. It starts from the extreme point in the groin and ends with the edge of the trouser leg. The step seam is a parameter with which you can determine the length of the product. This indicator is especially necessary when the purchase is made without trying on. The measurement will help you understand how well the jeans will fit, and whether you will have to send them to the atelier after purchase.

  • How to determine your pants size?

When choosing trousers in an online store, it is very important to correctly determine your size.
And when shopping in a regular store, it would also be good to immediately take pants that fit the size off the shelf, rather than try on the entire size range. Taking measurements to determine the size is very simple, for this we need to take a measuring tape and measure the circumference at the widest point of the hips, at the most protruding place in the buttocks and the waist circumference at the narrowest point, without tightening the measuring tape.

The sizes on trousers are often indicated as European, German, American, in this case a table will help us, with the help of which we will find the size corresponding to the one we are looking for. The determining parameter when choosing women's trousers is the circumference of the hips, since the fit of the trousers at the waist can be adjusted using an elastic band or belt.

Initial data of dimensional characteristics of measurements for a pattern of size 44 trousers.

As initial data, the values of measurements, allowances for freedom of fit and additional measurements of sections of the width of the intended product, which are determined from the model, are used.

To ensure that the product you sew fits well on your figure, it is better to take measurements individually. How to correctly measure the human body and what measurements you will need, see here.

When constructing a drawing of trousers, replace the measurements recorded in Table 1 with your dimensional characteristics.

When calculating some formulas for this type of belt product, allowances for a loose fit are used along sections of the waist line ( Pt

    ) and hips (

    Pb

). See Table 2 for details.

    Additional sizes

Depending on height and leg length, the following additional sizes are available:

    • K – trousers for girls and women of small stature, approximately up to 165 centimeters, the length of the inseam is approximately 75 centimeters.
    • N - average height from 165 to 172 centimeters, the length of the inner seam of the trousers is about 81 centimeters.
    • L - for tall ladies from 172 centimeters, the length of the inseam is about 88 centimeters.

The presence of additional parameters in the form of size and leg length greatly simplifies the choice; by purchasing trousers of the required length, you can save money and not have to hem your trousers in the studio.

Measure your average stride length: table

Approximate step length values are presented in the table. The left column shows height in centimeters, the remaining two columns show the average step length for men and women.

    MaleFemale
    160-165 cm.67 cm66 cm
    165-170 cm.69 cm68 cm
    170-175 cm.71 cm70 cm
    175-180 cm.74 cm73 cm
    180-18578 cm76 cm
    From 18580 cm78 cm

Naturally, this is only the average step length. In fact, it may differ from the average. However, the average value helps in simple calculations. On the Internet you can find online calculators that automatically calculate step length based on height.

    Tips for choosing

It is better to prepare for going to the store to buy trousers in advance; to do this, we take all the measurements that may be useful to us: waist circumference, hips, length of the product. We select the model of interest and then study the label or ask a consultant for help.

Tip: take trousers of two adjacent sizes to the fitting room at once, so you can immediately evaluate which one fits your figure better and is more comfortable. If you prefer to order clothes from online stores, pay special attention to taking measurements and determining the size according to the tables of a particular store; they may differ from the generally accepted ones.

The use of any materials without our prior written consent is prohibited.

Jeans size charts for men and women

Since most of us, fortunately, have standard figures, patterns have long been established experimentally that allow you not to bother with a flexible centimeter, but to increase your jeans length based on your height.

    You need height jeans:

    • L28 (inseam up to 72 cm) – if your height is in the range of 155-162 cm
    • L30 (inseam up to 76 cm) – if your height does not exceed 170 cm
    • L32 (inseam up to 81 cm) – if your height is 170-178 cm
    • L34 (inseam up to 86 cm) – ideal for height 178-188 cm
    • L36 (inseam up to 91 cm) – suitable for tall people above 188 cm

Sizes are generally the same for men and women.

The waist circumference will require greater accuracy, due, among other things, to the difference in female and male figures, so here are tables of jeans sizes for women and men especially for you.

    What is a trouser crotch?

Such an indicator as a crotch seam can often be found in finished products of popular brands. A crotch seam is a stitch that connects the front and back pieces on the inside of the leg. It starts from the extreme point of the product in the groin to the edge of the trouser leg. This parameter determines the length of trousers or jeans and is very useful when choosing products “blindly”. It is enough to take this measurement to know exactly how short or long the chosen model will be, and whether it will need to be hemmed in the studio.

Sometimes the definition of “low crotch seam” or “low

th crotch seam.” In everyday life they are called: trousers with “trousers”. Such products sit very loosely in the groin. These are the following models: joggers, afghanis, baggies, aladdins, zouaves, shalwars and bloomers.

There are height marks on trousers, which immediately set the limits for the length of the inseam:

    1. K – short height, up to 165 cm. Inseam length – about 75 cm.
    2. N – average height, in the range of 165-172 cm. Inseam length – 81 cm.
    3. L – tall, from 172 cm. Inseam length – about 88 cm.

    Steps when running and walking

The measure of step length when walking and running may differ for the same adult. The main feature of the running step that distinguishes it from walking is the presence of a flight phase, which is not allowed in race walking. Beginning athletes often use a walking stride when running, but this significantly reduces the effectiveness of their training. The running step does not involve braking and reduces impact forces. Due to this, the risks of injuries to muscles, ligaments, joints and muscles are reduced.

The running stride is determined by parameters such as running rhythm (frequency) and stride length. A common mistake is running at a low cadence and increasing your speed by increasing your stride length. However, the correct running technique is different: you need to develop the athlete's speed through speed, but the stride length must remain constant.

In running, cadence is considered the main parameter. But the length must also be taken into account. You need to know this, since a short step can provoke inflammation of the ligaments or joints, and a long step can have a bad effect on the musculoskeletal system and impair coordination.

There is a simple formula that helps determine the length of your running stride. The height indicator in centimeters is multiplied by 0.65. Thus, for a person 175 cm tall, this value will be 175x0.65 = 113.75 cm.

This is not a universal value, but these calculations need to be taken into account when choosing the correct stride length. When calculating, you need to take into account the type of running. In the sprint the stride will be longer, but in the marathon it is much shorter. The above calculations are relevant for an average running pace.

Thus, you can approximately determine the length of your step both when walking and when running. This will be useful for a pedometer and will help calculate many other parameters. If you lead an active lifestyle and monitor your exercise, then this indicator is worth knowing.

    How to measure your crotch

The measurement is called VShG (crotch height). There are two ways to find out your VShG length: take a perfectly fitting product or take your own measurements. In the second case, you will need the help of another person. But this method will give a more accurate figure.

    On the finished product

The first step is to choose pants that fit perfectly. Some should not be loose, the model should fit well. At the same time, you should not take products made from bi-elastic or elastic fabrics that stretch greatly to fit your figure - they will not give an accurate picture. The length of the selected trousers should be ideal - to the ankle, not higher and not lower. Sequence of taking measurements:

    1. Fold the trousers in half as before ironing.
    2. Spread them out on a flat surface so that there are no folds or creases.
    3. Place a measuring tape and place its beginning at the intersection of the internal seams.
    4. Pull the tape straight to the end of the trouser leg.
    5. Record the result by pinning the tape with a pin.
    6. Check again how evenly the product is laid out and whether the measuring tape is well stretched.

You can measure the same parameter without unfolding your trousers. It is enough to take the product with the fingers of one hand by the edge of the trouser leg, and with the other hand instead of crossing the groin seams, while simultaneously holding the tailor's tape in your fingers. Stretch the product with the tape well, look at the extreme value on the tape.

    On a person

The measurement is carried out over tight tights, tights, leggings. Measurements over underwear will give an underestimated figure, measurements over trousers made of thick fabrics will give an overestimate. Therefore, choose thin, well-fitting pants. How to measure:

    1. Go to the wall, turn your back to it, touching four points: heels, buttocks, shoulder blades and the back of your head. In this position, the person stands as straight as possible, with a slender and straight back. In any other position, the measurement will be distorted.
    2. Your legs should be slightly apart.
    3. The edge of the tape is placed at the beginning of the inner stitching, at the intersection, near the groin.
    4. The tape goes down along the leg to the floor.

To get a more accurate result, sometimes use a thin book or any other thin and hard object with right angles. It is placed between the legs, pressing one side against the wall, strictly vertically, and bringing it closer to the pubis. The beginning of the measuring tape is placed on the top edge of the book.

The measurement is adjusted to suit the trouser model or wearing style. The wider the trousers, the longer they should be. Tight-fitting styles may expose the ankle. For a specific pair of high-heeled shoes, you need to select trousers separately - a length that reaches the middle of the heel looks harmonious. The difference with trousers for flat shoes can be up to 10 cm.

Let's start by choosing the right size for now (and for the rest of winter).

    Jacket.

Put the jacket on the child and ask him to raise his arms up - this is the position the sleeves should be just right (at the border of the wrist and the base of the hand). If it's shorter, I recommend trying on a larger size. Even if it seems to you that the jacket fits well with your arms down, do not forget that the child is growing and actively moving.

    Trousers and overalls.

When choosing overalls, pay attention to whether the straps can be adjusted and whether the selected size has a reserve length for the straps so that as the child grows, they can be made longer. And to choose the correct length of trousers, ask your child to sit down - models with elastic bands along the hem of the trousers should not ride up in a squatting position. With straight-cut trousers, everything is the same as for adults: standing in shoes, the trousers should NOT touch the floor, but they should not expose the ankle. Regardless of the size, the child should be comfortable, so let him sit down several times and walk around.

    Overalls.

In addition to the length of the sleeves and legs, an important indicator here will be the length along the back. To check how well the overalls fit, check that when the child’s arms are raised, there is a small margin left along the length of the torso, otherwise, during wearing, the overalls may feel tight.

    Shoes.

A child’s winter shoes should have a margin of 1 to 1.5 cm: 0.5 cm for a warm sock/0.5 cm margin in case of foot growth/0.5 cm for comfort when walking. In addition to trying on, you need to take out the insole and place the child on it - this way you will more clearly understand whether there is the necessary supply. Please note that the child needs to be placed on the insole, and not just placed on the insole. If the insole cannot be removed, then put the shoe on the child and ask him to move his foot forward as much as possible, and stick your finger inside from the heel side. If the toe fits, then the shoe has the necessary reserve. But your toe should fit quite tightly - this is the optimal margin; if your toe moves freely, then the shoe is too big. If you want to buy shoes with a margin larger than recommended, then choose models with the maximum number of volume adjustments so that the foot does not dangle, but is well fixed. And be sure to ask your child to walk - if he “slaps” and stumbles when walking, it is better to take a smaller size.

How to measure the inseam in overalls (trousers, jeans, pants)?

Now I’m writing an advertisement for the sale of overalls. You need to indicate its inseam. How to measure it. I also plan to sell trousers, trousers and jeans.

    Author of the publication

    Achievement received 10/09/2018

The crotch seam is the one that is located on the inside of the trousers - starting from the groin to the end of the trousers, of course it is shorter than the outer one. I usually measure it with a centimeter, if there is no flexible centimeter in the house, then you can measure it with a tape measure, any tape, even thread (then measure the length of the thread with an ordinary ruler). I fold the trousers in half on a flat surface (table, floor, ironing board), straighten them well, and make them flat. Then, using a centimeter, I begin to measure the distance from the intersection of the inner seams to the end of the trousers. You can measure this seam on the clothing the person is wearing. The difference in the length of the inseam and the outer seam shows the depth of the trousers.

The inseam is also called an inseam. It runs along the trouser leg from the inside of the leg. Measured from the intersection of the seams (where the two trouser legs are sewn) from the crotch to the bottom of the pant leg. If you advertise for the sale of jeans, be sure to indicate the fit: low, medium, high. And give these measurements. It is also better to indicate the length of the trouser leg without taking into account the belt, just write additionally that the belt is plus 2 or 3 centimeters. Many women have fairly full legs at the top, so according to the measurements, everything seems to match, but they can’t fit into their pants. Therefore, it would be good to give additional measurements: the width of the trouser leg at the very top (the widest point); width at the knees; and the width of the leg at the bottom. I agree that the work is painstaking, but, as they say, it’s better to measure seven times. For overalls, let's also take measurements: the length of the harness, if any; the width at the waist: in a normal, loose state and in a stretched state; and also write if there is a possibility to reduce the waist, for example - an elastic band, a drawstring, or maybe there is Velcro on the side.

    general information

An inseam or inseam is a seam located on pants or leggings on the inside of the thigh. In other words, this is the distance from the groin to the end of the pant leg. It should be noted that the inside seam will always be shorter compared to the outside seam. On breeches and shorts, inseams are also considered crotch. Measuring internal seams is necessary not only when sewing a product, but also to determine the size in certain sports, for example, for cyclists. Knowing how to measure the length of a crotch seam with an assistant or on your own will make the sewing process much easier and the resulting product more comfortable. And the process of purchasing a new pair of trousers or leggings will become much easier. Try one of the methods below.

    Stretch and other nuances

Don't expect 100% accuracy. The measurement error allowed is ±1 cm in width (measurements 1,2,3,6) and ±1.5 cm in length (measurements 4,5). It is better to take several measurements and take the arithmetic average. It is necessary to exclude the influence of plump, voluminous external pockets on measurements.

It’s not so scary to be one size smaller on products made from elastic stretch fabrics: cotton 93%-97% + elastane/spandex 7-3%. The pants generally fit well and look great.

Stiff, dense, “dry” (as sewing makers say) fabrics require more accurate sizing. If they are a little tight, you will feel it. If you gain excess weight, you will also feel it immediately. With such fabric, it is better to choose trousers that are slightly larger than smaller.

How to Measure Your Crotch Using Ready-Made Pants

    1. Choose the pants that fit you better than all the others. They should be comfortable, tight-fitting and normal in length, neither short nor long. To take the correct measurements for your pants, you need to make sure they fit you perfectly.
    2. Fold them in half as if you were going to iron the creases, so that only one pant leg is visible. Lay the trousers on an ironing board or other flat surface and smooth them thoroughly so that there are no wrinkles or unevenness (the fold should be perfectly smooth).
    3. Next you will need a tailor's tape or tape measure. Apply the tip to the lower intersection of the inner seam wedge. Next, take measurements, pulling the tape until you reach the very bottom of the trousers. If you used a tape measure, it is better to record the obtained measurements. The tailor's tape can be pinned with a pin or needle. Check the measurement accuracy again. The length from the inseam wedge to the floor is the length of the inseam. Here's how to measure the inseam on your pants.

Step-by-step construction of a pattern for women's trousers Korfiati

    Anastasia Korfiati

    April 4, 2016

A simple step-by-step construction of a pattern for women's trousers is a great start for those who dream of sewing them perfectly! The basic pattern that we offer you is the basis on which you can model any trouser item - capris, jeans, low-waisted, elasticated and even maternity pants! In order for the products to have a good fit, you need to take all the necessary measurements as accurately as possible.

Step-by-step construction of a pattern for women's trousers

To create a basic pattern you will need the following measurements:

    • Waist circumference (FROM)
    • Hip circumference (H)
    • Knee circumference (OK)
    • Bottom width (ShN)
    • Side seam length (DB)
    • Seat height (from the waist to the subgluteal fold) (BC)
    • Knee height (VK)
    • Step length (LS) (along the inside of the leg from the groin to the floor) or DB-VS

Measuring the crotch with a second person

    1. For a more accurate measurement, you need to undress. After this, put on tight leggings or tights. Measurements based on regular clothing may not be accurate enough.
    2. Ask a friend or acquaintance to help you.
    3. Go to the wall, lean on it in order to stand completely straight and maintain your posture. If you bend over even a little, the measurement will not be accurate. Take a clipboard or a thin hardcover book.
    4. Place it strictly perpendicular to the wall between your legs (as close to the pubic bone as possible).
    5. Have your assistant place the edge of the tailor's tape on the top of the book near the crotch and thigh.
    6. Lower the tape along your leg to the floor.

This is the second way to measure the inseam. If all measurements were carried out accurately, then this option gives the most accurate values.

    Useful tips

Depending on what kind of clothing you want to sew and its purpose, the length of the inseam will vary. For example, the inseam of tight leggings will be smaller than that of suit pants.

If you plan to wear pants with stilettos or winter boots, the seam will be 5-10 centimeters longer, depending on the height of the heels.

Shorts and breeches, respectively, have a shorter inseam than pants.

If you are interested in how to measure the inseam in overalls, then the sequence of actions and methods will be similar to those for regular trousers.

How to measure a crotch seam: instructions and tips

If you are interested in tailoring, but do not have special professional skills, you may have various problems understanding the terms used and taking measurements. In order to sew pants or shorts, you will need to determine the inseam or inseam. Only with correct measurements and a correctly constructed pattern will the product have a perfect fit. International jeans size charts for women and men

Often, especially in European online stores, you can find not a numerical, but a letter size grid - S, M, L... Such sizes do not provide information about the length of the model (this will need to be clarified in the description), but they well characterize the fit of the jeans at the waist and on the hips.
