Description and history of the material
Tactel is a soft, pleasant to the touch fabric. Depending on the thickness of the yarn, it can be smooth or rough.
The material was invented in 1983 by DuPont technologists. Wanting to emphasize the extraordinary softness of the fiber, the developers gave it the name tactel - from the Latin word tactus (“touch”). At the same time, the trademark of the same name was patented. It was later resold to the American company Invista.
Fact. Today, tactel is produced primarily in China at enterprises owned by this corporation.
Superfiber Tactel
The name tactel refers not so much to fabric as to a trademark registered by the American brand back in 1983 and currently owned by .
Tactel® brand fiber gets its name from the Latin word meaning “to touch,” which refers to the high tactile qualities of this material. It belongs to polyamides and is made from petroleum products. The diameter of one microfiber (filament) is no more than 8 microns, and the thread can consist of a maximum of 53 such microfibers. A special feature of creating fabric from tactel fibers is the use of threads of different thicknesses.
The fabric is formed in such a way that the inner layer facing the skin is made of thick and soft threads, and the outside has threads of smaller diameter. As a result, moisture from the surface of the skin evaporates unhindered, and underwear and clothes made from such material will be dry even in conditions of high temperature and humidity.
Composition and process of obtaining fibers
The raw material for taktel is a special type of polyamide raw material, which is obtained from petroleum products. Microfibers are ultra-thin, produced in different sections, but the largest diameter does not exceed 8 microns.
Taktel is woven from threads consisting of several fibers. The quantity varies depending on the purpose of the future textile; if necessary, it can reach up to 53 pieces. The more microfibers, the softer and stronger the yarn.
A special feature of the technology is that tactel fabric is woven with thin and thick threads, which are distributed over different surfaces of the material. The most voluminous ones run along the side in contact with the skin, and the ultra-thin ones run along the outer side. Thanks to this, moisture is quickly removed from the body, and it remains dry.
Also, the tactel does not allow external moisture to pass through, retaining it on the surface, protecting it from wind and cold air. Does not create a greenhouse effect, like other synthetic fabrics.
Other advantages of the taktel:
- 3 times stronger than cotton;
- elasticity, the ability to follow the curves of the body;
- light weight: tactel is 20-25% lighter than natural fabrics;
- resistance to bruises and pilling;
- ease of care.
Fact. Tactel dries 8 times faster than cotton.
Properties
Tactel fabrics vary in appearance, texture, physical properties, and purpose. They can be matte or shiny, iridescent, velvety or silky, but they all have a number of common characteristics that make them unique:
- ease. Weighs very little, 20% less than most others;
- strength. Resistant to mechanical stress, very tear-resistant, abrasion-resistant. Three times stronger than natural fibers;
- breathability. Allow the skin to “breathe”;
- firmness and elasticity. The material stretches and quickly takes its previous shape, does not wrinkle at all;
- low electrical conductivity. They do not accumulate static electricity and are not electrified;
- low thermal conductivity. Due to excellent moisture removal, the skin always remains dry, so a person does not freeze;
- windproof;
- softness. Pleasant to the touch, easy to drape;
- aesthetics. Pills never appear on the surface of the products, they look neat even after numerous washes;
- durability. Products made from tactel serve for a very long time, practically without changing their operational and aesthetic characteristics;
- ease of care. Thanks to their special structure, they are resistant to stains and dry eight times faster after washing than cotton.
The disadvantage can be considered the rather high price of such products due to the high production costs.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly business suit material that will fit your body perfectly and give you a stylish look, look no further than Pikachu fabric. This soft, comfortable and elastic material makes elegant women's dresses, light summer jackets and jackets.

Types: their features and purpose
The first taktel fabric was developed for sewing sports and tourist equipment. Over time, new varieties have appeared:
Name | Characteristic |
Micro | Soft, stretchy fabric made from ultra-fine fibers. Ideal for wet conditions. |
Multisoft | Made from special fiber. Textiles come in different textures, matte or glossy. Used for sewing swimsuits and lingerie. |
Textural | Made from bulky threads. The material is dense, wear-resistant, soft. Used for sports and travel items. |
Diablo | Fabric made from fibers of a special cross-section that reflect and refract light. The surface of the material is smooth and iridescent. |
Aquator | Two-layer material: outer - cotton, inner (towards the body) - polyamide. Thanks to this, the synthetic fiber removes moisture to the top layer, where it quickly evaporates. |
Climate | Thin, breathable material. Used in making clothes for hot weather. |
Strata | It is made from threads of different diameters, which when dyed give a melange effect. |
Important. Tactel fibers combine well with synthetic and natural threads. In the manufacture of fabrics for outerwear, they are combined with cotton, wool, acrylic, and in the production of underwear - with elastane.
Types of tactile materials
Strength, lightness and the ability to regulate adsorption contributed to the fact that taktel was first used for the manufacture of outerwear and special clothing, as well as various equipment (backpacks, sleeping bags, etc.) intended for extreme activities, primarily for climbers and skiers. There are currently two categories of this material available:
- Tactel Enhancers are durable, weather resistant, and have good airflow, although they can be rough and not particularly bright. This fabric is still used for clothing and equipment that does not contact the body and is intended for harsh weather conditions and heavy loads.
- Tactel Senses is a relatively late development. Fabrics based on it are distinguished by their softness, variety of textures and colors, they are used for the manufacture of high-quality linen and a variety of clothing.
In addition, tactel fibers are used as an additive to other materials, including mohair, acrylic, etc. They increase the strength of the mixed fabric, improve its “breathing” abilities and thermal regulation properties, making it softer and more pleasant to the touch. Also very common is the tactel-lycra combination, which is used to create underwear jersey, socks and tights, as well as high-quality compression hosiery.
Currently, more than ten varieties of tactel are produced. All of them look aesthetically pleasing, drape and fit beautifully, are comfortable to use, easy to care for, and also last a long time without compromising their appearance. The most common types of this material are:
- Multisoft, the threads of which are combinations of fibers of variable cross-section and allow you to create a wide variety of textures (silky, fleecy, textured).
- Textural is a soft and durable fabric made from voluminous monofilaments, used for travel equipment and special equipment.
- Aquator is a monofilament fabric with a cotton top layer that allows you to quickly and effectively evaporate sweat from the surface of the body.
- Climat is a thin material with increased air exchange ability, designed for hot weather.
- Micro - ultra-fine fibers for thin and light, but at the same time dense and elastic fabric that protects well from external influences.
- Diablo is a silky glossy fabric with an iridescent effect created using transparent reflective fibers.
- Strata is a melange material in which fibers with different cross-sections are colored differently.
The variety of types of tactel allows it to be used for a wide variety of wardrobe items - from underwear and tights to raincoats and travel overalls . All these products are distinguished by good fit and elasticity, do not restrict movement, allow you to feel good in any weather, and most importantly - they are beautiful and practical.
Areas of use
Due to its high performance properties and decorative properties, tactel is popular. The fabric is used to make:
- sportswear,
- tourist equipment: sleeping bags, backpacks;
- special suits and home clothes;
- coats, raincoats, raincoats, jackets;
- tights, stockings;
- bags, shoppers.
In addition to wardrobe items, tactel is used as furniture fabric. The material is also popular in the production of bath curtains, accessories for saunas, baths, and swimming pools.
