Boho again. I don't mind. And I’m very much in favor! This style, especially in summer, sets the mood for relaxation. Some imposingness and negligence in the summer is very useful.

Last summer I wrote about boho style.

Boho is made for free-spirited creative people. The coming summer just screams and demands from us new outfits in this amazingly comfortable, spectacular style.

My opinion has not changed. Everything is so - for free, creative people. For you and me!

Imagine - summer, warm evening, children at the dacha. and you come home from work like this (instead of rushing to the garden or afterschool to pick up your beloved child), wearing a new long skirt of an incredibly interesting, complex cut.

I have already received a large portion of compliments regarding my new outfit at work. And the admiring glances of passersby going to meet you lift your spirits.

You can walk the long road without rushing anywhere and even eat ice cream, sitting comfortably on a bench among the green foliage. Look at the real-life goddess princess Helena Bonham Carter. Super! Here is a free and brave woman. All Gestalts have been worked out!

I got a little tired and distracted. So, let's get down to business. Where can I get a skirt like this? And then, I’ll give it to you! A message arrives in our VKontakte group.

Irina asks: “Help me figure it out. How to sew such a skirt. According to the description from the Internet - a tablecloth skirt. I sewed it, but it didn’t quite turn out like in the picture. Tell me, explain. How to cut it!”

The skirt is really very interesting and unusual. The construction of the pattern seems complex and incomprehensible. But this is only at first glance. In general, we’re hooked, let’s sew!

I studied several options for constructing a pattern (thanks to the girls from club.season.ru), summarized them and present my version to your judgment.

The longer I looked at the cut of this skirt. The more I became convinced of how much influence the study of natural objects has on an artist/fashion designer/clothing maker. I remembered how, as a student in academic drawing classes, the teacher taught us to admire and be inspired by the perfection of the world. Nature has already created everything. All harmonious shapes and palettes are already there. You just need to take it and use it. It's simple!

Take our model, for example. Skirt - pumpkin, skirt - physalis, petal skirt, skirt - bud. Well, you understand, right?

Skirt pattern with petal wedges

Now I’ll tell you how I see the principle of constructing the basis for such a skirt. After which real creativity will begin and you will be able to create a truly unique thing. I'm starting.

The basis of such a skirt is a skirt with a conical extension. More or less is up to you to decide. I will show you based on the pattern of a half-sun skirt.

To create a pattern for a half-sun skirt, we need two measurements - Waist circumference (From)

Important: if you want to add pleats to the skirt along the waistline, then at this stage the amount of fold opening needs to be included in the formula. For example, you are planning two folds of 8 cm each (the total opening is 16 cm). Then to the measurement From +16 cm.

and Skirt length (Di). We will build on a right angle. From point O

along the rays of the angle we plot the radius -
r
r=From/3.14

We connect the points with an arc. All points lying on the arc are at a distance from point O equal to the value r.

This arc is ½ of the waist line. Now from it, at a distance equal to the Length of the product (Di), we draw a large arc - the line of the bottom of the skirt. We've got half a pattern for a half-sun skirt (that is, we need to cut two of these parts).

We are getting closer to our petals/wedges. Let's decide on their number. I suggest making an eight-piece skirt. To do this, from point O, follow a bisector to the bottom line. And we also divide each formed corner in half. Extend to the bottom.

We design the segments in the form of wedges-petals. First, let's decide on the level of narrowing of the petals towards the bottom. Judging by the proportions of the skirt from the photo, the tapering begins approximately at a distance of 20-30 cm from the bottom. We outline it in the form of darts.

Important: keep an eye on the overall volume of the skirt at the bottom, that is, the length of the hemline. The total length of the hemline should not be less than 110-120 cm. Otherwise, difficulties may arise when walking.

Skirt wedge pattern

Now comes the fun part - creativity. We will design wedges-petals. Rely on your imagination. Look at nature. Act boldly and decisively. But do not forget that the length of the stitching seams of adjacent parts should be equal to each other. Well, the volume of convexities and the configuration of lines are up to your taste.

These are the patterns of wedges I came up with. You may have others.

For better texture, I suggest introducing additional vertical seams on the skirt. They

  • will add slimness to your figure,
  • will make the cut of the skirt more complex and intricate
  • and, which is very valuable, they will help you use the fabric more economically.

The layout on the fabric is an example, maybe you will do it differently. Even more compact, for example.

The pattern of the skirt and its wedge is ready. I hope you understand the principle of construction. It's not difficult, but very creative. Do you agree? Try to create your own version and be sure to show us. Our website has a wonderful live photo forum, where competitions with prizes are often held).

Here are some photos with similar skirts. Get inspired and go!

Is it possible to sew such a skirt yourself?

Boho skirts are like no other suitable for DIY sewing at home. After all, handmade products are inherent elements of a Bohemian chic wardrobe. Most often they are sewn in maxi length (floor-length), but they can also be made in midi length - just below the knee or ankle-length.

Multi-layered products with an asymmetrical hem look especially beautiful.

Boho skirt patterns

We offer a small selection of cool models along with diagrams and stages of pattern construction.

Skirt-tablecloth

A very unusual boho style model is a tablecloth skirt.

To make it you will also need:

  • lace from 5 m;
  • elastic band;
  • brackets for lacing;
  • lacing tape.

A fairly simple pattern allows even beginners to join in its creation. The pattern itself is a square.

Construction stages

  • We measured the length of the product from the waist to the floor. This will be the length from the waist line to the corner of the square.
  • Draw a square, each side of which is equal to the specified value.
  • We measured the waist circumference and drew a circle from the first point. Its diameter is equal to 1/4 of the waist volume + 2.5 cm. Using this pattern, build another square, but make the sides longer. This will be the bottom tier of such a skirt.

Sewing

To create a belt, you will need to cut out a rectangle, the length of which is equal to the waist circumference + 20 cm. The width of the rectangle is about 30 cm. You will need a sewing machine and elastic thread. It is loaded into the lower part of the machine with the tension on the iron holder reduced by exactly half a turn.

Mark stripes with soap at a distance of 1 cm along the entire length. Run a stitch with elastic thread along each strip. Fold the top edge. This will create a crinkled fabric with a very elastic elastic band.

Cut out two rectangles with sides 12 and 16 cm. Fold in half and sew, tuck the edges. To decorate, sew elastic bands to the waistband and additionally distribute along the lace seam line.

Put the brackets in and put it aside for now.

Connect two squares and sew along the waist line. Next, take the elastic waistband and carefully sweep it with your hands, hiding the seams on the wrong side. Then you can go through two lines on a typewriter.

Important! The skirt and belt must be sewn with elastic threads to maintain stretchability at the waist.

All that remains is to trim the edges with lace and insert the lacing. A very fashionable tablecloth skirt is ready.

Tiered boho skirt

This is not a simple multi-tiered model. The model is not simple in that the elastic band along the waist line is not inserted all the way around. As a result, an almost fitted product is obtained in front, but the most magnificent flounces go along the back side. This is very similar to the old models of luxurious dresses for young ladies.

To work you will need:

  • cotton fabric;
  • lace;
  • rubber;
  • sewing machine;
  • threads and needles.

The construction of the pattern is very simple - this model looks like a circle skirt. Only thanks to the idea with the elastic band, it belongs to boho.

Draw several circles with a gradual decrease in diameter. The waist circumference, that is, the cutout in the center of the circle, remains unchanged.

Completing of the work

  • It is more convenient to immediately sew lace to the edges of the parts along the bottom line . The last two can be left without lace.

Important! If the fabric crumbles, it is better to pre-process the bottom using an overlocker.

  • Place the pieces together and sew them, first tucking the edges of the top inward for the elastic.
  • Insert the elastic in the back only. To do this, measure no more than 20 cm of elastic and sew it on each edge, making a good gather for volume. It is better to do this with preliminary fittings to avoid mistakes.

The work is finished, the skirt is ready.

Wrap skirt

The most delicate model of a boho skirt is a wrap skirt. The style allows you to adjust the waistline . This is just a godsend for the master. So you only need to monitor the length of the product. For sizes 42–48, one model of such a skirt may well be used.

The work will require:

The pattern only requires one size. This is the length of the product from the waist line. The width of the skirt can be adjusted using a drawstring. Such chiffon skirts are very good, but you can safely replace it with another light and translucent material .

As shown in the diagram, first a circle is drawn with the radius of the length of the skirt. As a result, you will need to reduce half the circle so that 1/2 is obtained as a continuation of the radius along a quarter of the circle. Gradual transition from larger to smaller with middle lines measuring 1/4, 3/4.

Manufacturing

  • We make a belt 170 cm long. 10 cm wide. Sew the sides of the belt and go through two lines (one along the bottom and the other along the top). Sew the belt along the top at the waist line.
  • Process the bottom of the skirt and edges using an overlocker.

The model’s wrap skirt is ready.

Pattern for a plump woman - boho dress

Tips for sewing boho skirts

  • When creating clothing, you should always finish the edges of the product. For such voluminous models, especially if they are multi-tiered, it is more convenient to do this before sewing and making the belt.
  • Such skirts can be safely made multi-tiered. Models with false tiers turned out to be very popular, thanks to special flounces sewn to the middle of the hem.
  • Models are recommended for ladies with plus sizes. Such clothes hide figure flaws very well and emphasize the waist.

These patterns can be considered basic for further modeling. With their help, you will be able to create an original version, taking into account personal preferences and tastes.

PATTERN OF A SQUARE SKIRT IN BOHO STYLE

Materials Lightweight fabric. I believe mine is nylon taffeta. Elastic waistband.

The skirt is made entirely of rectangles. The central detail is similar to a circle skirt, with the only difference being that it is a square rather than a circle.

(I made it with elastic, but you can sew in a zipper if you'd like.)

Instructions Cut out a rectangle, 112 by 112 cm. (Note that I am 165 cm.

If you are taller or shorter, you can adjust the proportions). Calculate the circle you want to cut for the waist.

If the belt has an elastic band, without a zipper, calculate it so that there are no problems with putting it on over the top or through the legs (whichever is more convenient for you)

I needed a circle with a 16.6 cm radius. I created a quarter circle template using printer paper. Fold the square of fabric into quarters.

Attach the quarter circle template in the center of the corner. (Make sure you attach it at the correct angle!)

Cut out the waist.

Sew the belt at the waist using any method you prefer. Cut four more 112cm long rectangles to 38cm (again, adjust as needed to suit your height). Sew the long edge of each rectangle to one of the edges of the center square. (If you look at my raw pattern, you are sewing green shapes onto the blue center square.)

Start sewing a centimeter from the edge and stop a centimeter from the other edge. If you are using a different seam width, start and stop the seam by that amount. The last step is to sew the four short edges of the rectangles. (As shown by the arrows in the picture.)

Boho dress

An equally convenient wardrobe element in this style is a dress. It is also usually very spacious and light. The multi-layered texture of the outfit will help you stand out from the crowd and even hide extra pounds. What you need to sew a dress:

  • Fabric, preferably natural. We take about 3-4 m. So that it is enough for the entire length + sleeves.
  • To process the neckline we use a baize; you also need to buy a zipper and a beautiful trim to decorate the dress (this is at your discretion).
  • Threads, needle, scissors, sewing machine.

If you know how to embroider beautifully, you can decorate the dress exactly like this: embroider beautiful and colorful flowers, birds, etc. on the hem. Finish the sleeves and collar. Everything your imagination tells you.

Instructions:

  • We make a pattern in natural size on paper, cut out all the details. (the pattern is shown in the picture below).
  • We transfer the pattern to the fabric, be sure to add 1-2 cm for the seams. Cut out the elements from the fabric.
  • We sew the back and front on one side, sew a zipper on the other and also sew the remaining edge. Sew the darts to highlight the waist a little.
  • Let's start with the skirt. We sew the side seams of the skirt and sew on the bottom frill.
  • Next, you need to sew the sleeve details and stitch them to the main part of the dress. Be sure to trim the edges of the fabric to prevent it from fraying.
  • Carefully gathering the top of the skirt, sew it to the main part of the dress.
  • We process all the seams, making a frill if desired.
  • Let's start decorating the dress: sew on ribbons, beads, etc.

Summer version of the boho dress

This outfit is more formal, and to make it you need:

  • lace cotton fabric;
  • calico fabric for lining;
  • zipper, sewing machine, thread, needle and scissors;
  • baize finishing edges.

Instructions:

  • We transfer the pattern in real size to paper and cut out all the details.
  • Pin the pattern to the lining fabric and to the lace material. We outline with chalk (leave 1-2 cm for seams) and cut out all the details from the fabric.
  • Sew the side seams of the dress and sew in a zipper on one side. Be sure to iron the seams.
  • Now we sew the lining at the top of the dress (to the shoulders and bodice).
  • We sew all the edges (sleeves, bottom and neck).

It is recommended to make this dress in pastel colors; it is recommended to choose a plain fabric. You can complement it with ruffles and other decor.

We sew a skirt in the “office boho” style

The idea to hold this master class appeared after several girls wrote to me on the same day, one of whom asked for help with advice on sewing a skirt, and two more said that they would independently try to repeat the models that were on display in the store. I treat such letters well, I don’t look for pitfalls, and I will only be glad if my tips and advice help.

Dear Master Tailors, if you are reading this article, it means you are interested and have come, for which I sincerely thank you, but I ask you to put the too heavy slippers aside, since this master class is written for those who are very creative, but do not have professional skills in the art of tailoring.

So, let's get started.

For example, a skirt made of two types of natural linen is presented. The body of the skirt is dark gray striped linen; Some of the elements are linen in a natural light gray color. You, of course, can let your imagination run free and use fabrics (one or, as in this case, “partner fabrics”) at your creative discretion. As planned, just do your calculations.

It should be noted that the skirt shown in the photo and with the specified fabric consumption has only one main parameter that determines the size - hip circumference, the maximum circumference in a particular case is 140 cm.

— striped linen — 1 m with a working width of 150 cm;

— plain linen — 0.30 m with a working width of 150 cm;

— decorative cord for ties — about 1.5 m;

In the description I will talk about processing seams with overlock. For those who do not have this technique, it is quite possible to process the seams with a tight zigzag. Most sewing machines have this function.

All cutting is carried out along the grain thread (along the edge of the fabric with factory processing). We cut all the details over the entire width of the fabric. Don't forget to take seam allowances into account. For some they may be 1 cm, for others they can only work if the allowance is 2 - 2.5 cm, do as you wish, but the main thing is to remember them.

The main, largest part is 0.8 m by 1.5 m.

The second detail is the skirt belt. The belt will have an elastic band, the size of the part is 0.12 m by 1.5 m.

The third piece is the bottom strap of the skirt made of plain linen, the size of the piece is 0.30 m by 1.5 m.

Well, the cutting is finished. Let's start sewing.

Fold the bottom edge of the main piece (the largest piece) with the top edge of the bottom skirt placket. We sew, process with overlock, smooth out the seam. This is linen, the material is quite free-flowing, and therefore I prefer to overlock all seams, including internal ones.

Next we work with the bottom strap of the skirt. First of all, let's mark where we will have the loops for the decorative tie on the bottom bar. For those who have a sewing machine without a buttonhole function, a tip is to use metal blocks whose diameter will allow you to thread the cord.

Mark the line of the middle front of the bar.

We mark the location of the loops at an equal distance on both sides of the middle front line. We remember that we need to leave room for stitching.

We line up the loops (insert blocks).

The next step is the back seam of the skirt. Using an overlocker, we overlock both length lines of our future skirt and stitch the back seam. Don't forget to check the alignment lines, focusing on the seam connecting the two parts.

Smooth out the back seam. Fold the bottom strap of the skirt in half, turning it to the wrong side, and press it. For greater convenience and for fixation, you can smooth the bar using web tape. Thanks to its adhesive properties, after ironing it will fix the fabric, and you can easily stitch along the front side without fear of the fabric shifting.

Place a finishing stitch along the front side.

Place the second line below the loops. This way we will have a place to thread the cord.

We have already done most of the work. All that's left to do is work on the skirt's waistband.

Fold the belt piece in half lengthwise. We mark where the stitches for the elastic and, accordingly, the loops (or holes in the seam) will go so that the elastic can be threaded. We sew short sections of the belt taking into account the markings for the elastic. Fold the belt with the top of the skirt right sides together and sew along the wrong side.

We process the resulting seam with an overlocker.

We sew a finishing stitch to secure the belt in the desired position and stitches for the elastic.

We thread an elastic band into the waistband and a decorative cord into the bottom placket of the skirt. Advice: in order to make it completely comfortable for you to take a wide step, it is also better to insert an elastic band into the bottom bar, and sew a cord to the edges of it.

That's it, our skirt is ready!

The photo shows this skirt with pockets. But I think that for the first time what has been achieved will be quite enough. If you decide to also work with pockets, write, I’ll definitely tell you and send you a photo.

Thank you all for your attention. I will be happy to answer your questions. I would be grateful for your comments and responses.

Features of the models

Before you begin, you need to know the distinctive features of such a unique wardrobe element. So, what is the “trick” of a boho skirt?

  • Multi-layering. It can be expressed not only in the cut, but also in the layering of colors or prints.

The principles of boho style are comfort, brightness and layering.

  • Asymmetrical cut. The skirt does not have clear cut boundaries; the more bizarre the shape, the more boho it is. A bright representative of the caste is the boho skirt in the gypsy style. Multi-tiered cut and variegated colors - this is the most realistic and original model.

Boho style skirts are a mixture of hippie style, a mix of folklore, military, gypsy clothing and ethnic motifs

  • Style. The basis is the usual “sun” or “half-sun” cut, complemented by multi-layered details in the form of frills, ruffles or petticoats.

Boho style in clothing - mysterious, unusual, romantic

  • Length. Classic is maxi or midi length. Due to increased requirements for comfort, narrow minis that hinder the movements of fashionistas are not allowed in the style.

Boho skirts - beautiful, convenient and comfortable

  • Natural texture. A stunning effect can be achieved only by using natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, chiffon, corduroy, and denim.

Boho clothing is a combination of vintage style, romance, comfort and the beauty of nature

The main feature of any model is the free flight of imagination. That is why, when we sew a skirt with our own hands, we give it not only unique decorative details. The style has no clear boundaries and gives you the opportunity to realize your creativity, feeling like a talented designer.

Simple model from old jeans

If you have old jeans that for some reason you won’t wear again, don’t rush to throw them away! They can be the perfect basis for an incredibly fashionable, stylish and feminine boho skirt made by yourself.

Boho denim skirt

The master class on the DIY algorithm is as follows:

  1. Prepare the patchwork fabric. For this, a variety of scraps of natural fabric will be useful; the more bizarre the shape of each piece of fabric, the more original the skirt will be. You need to sew them together with your own hands or using a sewing machine.
  2. When the patchwork is ready, you need to cut out a circle in its center. The basis of the boho model is an ordinary “sun” pattern. You can first draw an even circle with a compass, then the pattern is transferred to the fabric.
  3. The pattern is drawn on the fabric using a piece of chalk or soap; for symmetry, you can fasten a needle in the center of the circle and measure the required length with a thread.
  4. From old denim trousers you need to cut off the top part like a miniskirt. You can use a ready-made old denim skirt as a basis. To make the model more original, you can “fray” the edges a little, giving a slight effect of negligence, which is inherent in the style.
  5. After the two parts are ready, you need to sew them together using a sewing machine. Such a master class will help even beginners in the art of sewing to easily master the principle of operation.
  6. Important details in this style are lace. They will be able to add notes of elegance, femininity, tenderness and romance. To do this, take an ordinary lace ribbon and sew a frill from it. For a layered effect, you can sew it in several tiers along the hem of the skirt.
  7. When the blank is ready, you can begin the most creative part of the work - decorating. The unlimited imagination of the craftswoman is welcomed here: beads, beads, embroidery, appliqués - all this can most fully reveal the style. The remaining scraps of lace from the frill can be sewn to the back pockets or belt.

Converting jeans into a skirt

The master class is very simple, even a beginner can handle the work. All you need is a little skill and an unlimited desire to create an incredible boho masterpiece.

Stylish gypsy motifs

There is a style that fully reflects the essence of boho style. This model is a skirt in a loose and bright gypsy style.

Women's boho skirts are a great outfit for any occasion

The peculiarity of the cut is the multi-tiered principle, but to understand the essence of the work, a detailed master class is needed.

Boho skirt pattern

So, let's sew a gypsy skirt:

  1. Choosing fabric. For this model, natural linen or cotton of variegated colors are suitable. A gypsy-style skirt in folk or ethnic prints looks especially original and distinctive.
  2. We take measurements for the pattern. In the traditional concept, a pattern is not needed for such a model, since all the parts are rectangles of different widths. Only two measurements are needed: hip volume and length.
  3. The yoke pattern is a simple rectangle. The recommended width is no more than 18 centimeters. The length of the yoke will be the volume of the hips plus another 4-6 centimeters, so that the skirt is not tight and can be easily put on.
  4. Tiers. The pattern of each tier is also rectangles. Each can have its own length and width. The skirt looks original if the individual width of each subsequent tier is greater than the previous one. This creates the effect of a lush and elegant flare.
  5. The pattern is as follows: the fabric is laid out in one layer, all rectangles are cut out from the wrong side of the material, the width of each must take into account the allowance for the seam line. There should be two of each part, so that you can then sew them into a single circle.
  6. The first thing you need to do is sew the yoke parts together along the side sections. The top edge of the yoke can be folded over and stitched to create an opening for the elastic.
  7. The details of the tiers must be sewn separately according to the pattern, each one should form a circle.
  8. After sewing each tier into gathers, the folding depends on the diameter of the circle. The circle tier should be 1.5-2 times larger than the previous one. If they are the same, you can get an unsightly caterpillar effect.
  9. All that remains is to connect all the parts together. According to the pattern, assembly begins with the yoke. To do this, it needs to be sewn with the first (smallest in diameter) tier. Next you need to sew each part in order. The edges of each individual element must be carefully processed beforehand.
  10. The skirt is ready, you can start decorating. However, if the weave itself is textured, decorated with all sorts of bright prints, then a pile of additional decor is unnecessary.

Master class for beginners

The master class clearly illustrates the simplicity of tailoring. A model in the boho style looks especially extraordinary if each tier is made of fabric not only of different colors or prints, but also of different textures.

So, the yoke can be sewn from a denser material, for example, corduroy. But for tiers you can use light and airy chiffon.

In such an unusual contrasting combination of textures, a true boho style is born.

A boho skirt is a bright decoration for a woman’s wardrobe. Boho style is a real find for lovers of handicrafts.

It is difficult to find a more diverse and creative style than boho. A skirt is a necessary basic element of a wardrobe in this style. Sewn with your own hands, it can easily be combined with tops, blouses, and complemented with jackets or cardigans.

The main advantage of such skirts, be it a petal model, gypsy, flared or year, is versatility.

It is expressed not only in its relevance for all kinds of situations and events, but also for any body type, giving the image femininity and filling it with romance.

How to sew a boho skirt with your own hands from an old tablecloth

I discovered my love for long skirts two years ago. When I realized that wearing a maxi-length skirt is convenient for walking down the street with a child - it does not ride up with any gust of wind, but develops like a train, adding a touch of mystery and femininity to the image. In addition, it can be casual and can be combined with any top. Who is interested in the topic of remaking old things, welcome to my master class on how to sew a boho skirt with your own hands from an old tablecloth without a pattern.

As always, I will show you step by step in photos how to sew a long boho skirt.

Boho style involves the use of clothes made from rough fabrics and ethnic patterns, so the fabric I use is my mother’s linen tablecloth. Yes, friends, it hit me and I don’t stop giving a second life to old things. While I'm visiting my parents, I can't go a day without a sewing machine, and thank God they have one! But there is a shortage of fabric stores here. In my home village, the only products offered are fabrics for bed linen and diapers. Here I am in the process of going through my mother’s closets and giving free rein to my imagination. So forgive me in advance if you see stains on the fabric. They may be hatchable, but I will do this after I sew them. Because my hands are itching to get to work)

How to cut a long skirt from a tablecloth without a pattern

1. My tablecloth has two coupon designs on the sides, which will be used for the flounce. If the fabric does not have a pattern along the edges that you need to adhere to in cutting, then you can use this pattern to sew a long skirt without a pattern. The main thing is that the piece of fabric is 1.5 m wide and 2 m long.

2. I cut off two pieces 39 cm wide on the sides. From the leftovers I cut out the front and back of the skirt.

For sewing you will need fabric of at least two colors. The main piece is square, 4 smaller pieces are rectangular.

  1. With a height of 170 cm, the side of the “square” is approximately 110-115 cm. There are no restrictions and you can experiment with the length and width of the skirt.
  2. In the center of the square, cut a round hole of such a diameter that the skirt can be put on. Since the belt will have an elastic band, the extra centimeters will not spoil the matter.
  3. 4 rectangles have the same length, equal to the side of the square, each width is 40 cm.
  4. Rectangles are attached to the square on four sides.
  5. The width of the rectangular pieces is sewn together at the corners of the square.
  6. In the center, to the round neckline, an elastic band is sewn - this is where the waist will be.
  7. All that remains is to trim the edges so that the threads do not fray, iron the skirt - and the new thing is ready.

How to sew a linen seam

  • fold two pieces of fabric and sew a stitch, retreating from the edge by 0.5 cm.
  • cut off any loose threads
  • turn inside out, fold the fabric along the seams and iron

  • stitch the width of the foot

This is what a linen seam looks like for bed linen. If you turn any pillowcase or duvet cover inside out, you will see that all the edges are processed in exactly this way. From the front side it is invisible, and inside the fabric will never become frayed, because everything is hidden inside. What a clever trick!

How to make a closed seam

In fact, this seam is a continuation of the linen seam. Now you will see everything for yourself.

  • to make a closed seam, you need to stitch the linen seam allowance onto the fabric

This seam is visible from the front side. But if you choose threads to match, then if you don’t look closely it will be unnoticeable. It is stronger than linen and allows you to make a smooth backside, there will be no protruding allowances inside. So, if you are annoyed by internal seams, take note.

I connect the shuttlecock on both sides with a backstitch.

How to sew a pocket into a side seam

I really like this type of pocket. Firstly, it is easy to perform, and secondly, it is invisible. And in my long summer skirt it will get lost in the numerous folds.

5. The pocket pattern in the side seam is equal to the circumference of your palm. For two pockets, I cut out four burlap pieces and finish them on the rounded side with an overlock stitch.

6. I attach the burlap with pins one by one to the panels of the skirt along the side seams, 11 cm down from the waist line. Using a sewing machine, I make a stitch along the pins, and overcast the side seam with a zigzag.

7. I iron the pocket burlap onto the side seam. I use the machine to adjust the burlap to the seam allowance. This is done so that during wearing the pockets do not turn outward.

8. I connect the front and back panels of the skirt using a machine, stitching along the side seams. I leave the entrance to the pocket equal to the width of the palm.

How to sew a flounce to a skirt

10. Now I assemble the shuttlecock into small folds. To do this, I make two parallel lines on a sewing machine; see how to make a beautiful assembly here. I place a flounce with a formed gather on the lower section of the skirt and begin to attach it with pins along the top. Then I use a sewing machine to sew with a regular stitch.

11. My boho linen skirt will have an elastic band, so along the waist section I bend the fabric inward by 4 cm. I leave a hole for the elastic in the side seam and use a sewing machine to lay three parallel lines. Using a pin, I insert three pieces of elastic band equal to the waist circumference.

Well, friends, your DIY boho skirt made from a linen tablecloth is ready! Of course, it is not intended for going out; I sewed it more for walking in the garden. But still, the pattern seems to me to be successful; the long summer skirt turned out to be full and with a train.

If you think that this is where I finished my experiments with tablecloths, then you are mistaken, friends! Attempt number three to sew something useful out of a tablecloth turned into a child's dress.

How to make a roller stitch on a sewing machine

9. Let's start sewing the shuttlecock. I will finish the upper cut of the flounce with a beautiful hem stitch. The roller stitch gives the cut a quality, finished look and is commonly used for hems on skirts, ruffles and ruffles. The fact is that on a regular sewing machine there is no roller stitch function and it seemed impossible to perform it. But there is one way, and I will show it to you now.

I set the settings on the machine: zigzag stitch, stitch width 1.5.

Along the upper cut of the flounce on the wrong side, I bend the fabric inward by 0.5 cm. Using a machine, I sew a zigzag stitch on the edge of the fabric.

So, using a regular stitching sewing machine, you can make a high-quality seam no worse than a roller seam.

Simple boho tunic

Shirts and tunics in this style are especially good for summer. They are loose, breathable and very beautiful. It is very easy to sew such a tunic; for this you will need:

  • sewing machine, scissors and thread;
  • natural fabric;
  • parts for processing the edges and neck are required;
  • decor as desired (embroidery, wooden beads, feathers, etc.).

Sewing instructions:

  • We transfer the pattern to paper and cut out all the details.
  • Then we transfer them to the fabric (we fix the pattern on the fabric with pins and trace it with chalk. Don’t forget about + 1-1.5 cm for the seams. We cut out the elements from the fabric.
  • We sew the back and front together.
  • Let's move on to the sleeves. Immediately sew their side part, then sew them to the main part of the tunic.
  • We process the collar on three sides and also sew it to the base.
  • We process the edges of the tunic: hem the bottom edge, you can make a frill from a fabric of a different color, we also process the edges of the sleeves. The tunic is ready!
