Look what a beautiful dress. It was this that became the “dream dress” for the charming Nastya.
So, the fabric has been chosen. Delicate mesh - tulle, the color of an ash rose. We replaced the lace with mesh with embroidery. And this complicated the task of assembling the dress... But difficulties are not a problem for real fairies!
For the underdress, we chose natural dense silk in a gray shade with a pearlescent tint. Beauty! Even not yet sewn, you can admire it all day long. But, to the point.
Looking ahead, I’ll show you what a finished prom dress looks like, which I sewed, inspired by a wonderful image. How do you like it?
This is what the technical drawing of the dress looks like.
Let me explain what the dress consists of. Step by step:
- First, I cut out and assembled a bodice from thick silk - a fitted top with thin straps.
- Then, the skirt - silk with tulle stitched to the waist line (I laid it with very small pleats and gathers). Paired with a silk top.
- And only now - a lace mesh bodice. Since in our case it was volumetric embroidery with glass beads and sequins on a mesh, I assembled the cutting details by hand. Seam over the edge. And in order to avoid unnecessary seams, I hid them under embroidery motifs. Where necessary, I trimmed, cut, placed, sewed... You act according to the circumstances. Based on the type of fabric (lace) you chose.
- The processed belt was secured in the side seams of the bodice by hand, and on the back - in the seams of the zipper.
Now let's talk more about the stages of pattern modeling. For modeling, I took a pattern of the base of the adjacent silhouette. You can build it using any method or use our pattern generator for an adjacent silhouette.
First we model a silk top and skirt.
Cut the back and front pattern along the waistline. We model the bodice.
We will transfer the chest dart on the shelf into the side seam under the armhole. To do this, mark a line for the new location of the dart. Cut and rotate the pattern pieces so that it opens in a new location.
Next, you need to outline the depth and shape of the top cut of the top on the back and front. I did this based on the location of the bra with which the dress will be worn.
Don't forget to measure the length of the straps.
Modeling a silk skirt. Based on the shape, I suggest making a bell skirt. Expansion at the bottom is achieved by moving the waist darts to the bottom of the skirt, see picture.
There is a slit on the front panel of the skirt, in the area of the left leg. High enough. For ease of processing, I suggest making a seam in this place, stitching it to the desired level.
These are the patterns for the details of the dress you should get.
Let's start modeling the lace bodice. I repeat, I sewed it separately from the top. And only in the area where the zipper was stitched, on the back, were they (top and lace) processed together.
Again we will need a base pattern for the adjacent silhouette.
First you need to determine the length of the bodice from the waist down. I was guided by the size of the scallops. Approximately 5-7 cm down from the waist. Cut along this line.
We transfer the chest dart into the armhole. I will advise you to design the relief from the armhole. This makes it easier to cut the lace and you can adjust the pattern. But still, focus on your fabric. You can get by with darts. You can repeat their position as in the top.
Next, focusing on the cutout of the top section of the top, outline the back neckline. Along the shelf there is a boat neck. Decorate the relief lines with smooth curves, see the picture.
Shorten the sleeve pattern to the length you need.

Now I want to tell you how I assembled the tulle skirt. The skirt should be full and have a lot of gathers. But this entails excessive thickening of the seam in the place where the skirt and top are sewn. This is how I got out of the situation. I made the skirt two layers. Place the first layer just below the seam where the top joins the skirt. I simply stitched heavily gathered tulle onto the finished skirt. The top layer, also heavily gathered, goes into the seam connecting the skirt and top, completely covering the allowances of the bottom layer.
I cut the tulle with straight panels. The width is equal to the length of the skirt. The bottom of the mesh (tulle) was not processed.
