Women's denim jacket

Back modeling

The distance from the neckline from the back to the bottom of the product will be 55 cm. Putting them down, draw a horizontal line. It should rise 0.5 cm towards the side seams. The same line will need to be considered as the bottom edge of the shelf.

The back shoulder will need to be lengthened by 3 cm. In this case, the shoulder line will need to be raised by half a centimeter. The armhole needs to be made deeper by 2 cm.

From the neck line you need to set 12-14 cm down. This will be the width of the yoke. It will need to be cut and cut specially. The remaining part of the back is divided into two parts: the middle part and the side.

Shelf modeling

The chest dart is closed in such a way as to bring it to the waistline. Now the side line will need to be straightened. The shoulder of the shelf needs to be lengthened by 3 cm. It is made higher by 0.5 cm.

How to make a yoke

The armhole is deepened by 2 cm. The neckline is increased by 1.5 cm. In this case, it is necessary to provide an increase for the fastener. To do this, you will need another 2 cm. You will need to put 10 cm down from the neck and draw a horizontal line. The yoke will need to be cut separately. On the shelf you need to mark the places where the buttons will be located.

Raised seams on the front

You need to set aside 2 cm from the edge of the closed chest dart to the side. From the bottom of the armhole along the yoke you need to measure 3.5 cm. This will be the location of the relief seam.

The denim pattern stipulates that there should be a pocket with a flap near the front edge of the armhole.

Pattern of a collar for a jacket

To create a collar, you need to measure the length of the neckline on the front and along the back. The collar width is 12 cm.

Raincoat without pattern: for men, women, children

This wardrobe item can be made in a few hours. The main thing is to calculate the fabric consumption and buy it in the store. An impregnated raincoat is best suited for these purposes; it definitely won’t get wet and will reliably protect you from gusts of wind.

A simple cutting is done like this:

  • Fold the fabric in half.
  • Place the length of the product down towards the edge.
  • Measure the circumference of the hips, divide the value in half, add 8-10 cm for a loose fit, mark the size on the fabric, so you get a rectangle - this is the back of the raincoat.
  • Now you need to draw the sleeves. We set the length away from the back, taking into account the increase for the hem.
  • Cut out the neck.
  • Construct a hood pattern in the form of a rectangle, then round the top corner.

If you are not sure, then it is better to draw the constructions on paper or oilcloth, try them on, and then transfer them to fabric. Stitch the seams, process them, hem them. It remains to determine what to make the fasteners from. These can be ties, buttons, Velcro, buttons, a choice for every taste. A man's raincoat can be left without any additions; a children's raincoat can be decorated with a pattern of rhinestones or ready-made embroidered appliqués; a woman's raincoat can be embroidered with beads or other decorative elements.

Children's clothes from unwanted jeans

DIY children's jackets made from jeans

Jeans will suit any style of clothing, both for boys and girls. Denim fabric is dense, holds its shape well, is practical to wear, so it is ideal for sewing children's jackets. It is advisable to use new or lightly worn jeans for alterations.

For example, from straight men's jeans size 50 for a height of 176 cm, I was able to cut out and sew a classic denim jacket for a 2-3 year old boy with a height of 98 cm. The pattern for such a jacket can be found in the magazine “Burda. Special issue. Children" for 2009.

You can spruce up your little girl's wardrobe with a cute parka jacket with a hood, lined with red fleece and decorated with brightly colored printed fabric and red buttons. Knitted cuffs on the sleeves will provide additional warmth to children's hands.

A children's jacket made of jeans can also be insulated with flannel, a lining with padding polyester or faux fur, and a drawstring with a cord can be made at the bottom of the product so that the wind does not blow under the jacket.

Due to the fact that denim fabric does not have good enough water-repellent properties, lighter, demi-season jackets are most often made from jeans. They can be decorated with applique, embroidery, and funny patches.

How to convert a men's jacket into a women's one

Remaking a boy's or man's jacket into a women's jacket is another opportunity to update your wardrobe. This method will be especially convenient for beginning craftswomen. You can use a pattern taken from Burda. In this case, there will be no fear of doing anything wrong. After all, the base of the jacket has already been made and only a few relatively simple operations need to be done.

Men's jacket before alteration

Today, denim jackets for girls and women are back in fashion. Previously, their popularity peaked in the eighties and nineties. If a men's jacket has been preserved from that time, it is not difficult to update it by turning it into a fashionable women's item. This can be done in several ways. One of the most popular will be described below.

After the rework

You can do this as follows:

  • The jacket needs to be shortened. Due to the fact that breast darts were not provided, the situation can be corrected in the indicated way. It is enough to raise the edge no more than 5 centimeters.
  • You need to draw a new edge evenly along the entire jacket.

Bottom of an old jacket

  • Since the material will bulge on the back (especially if the jacket is oversized), you will need to sew the jacket at the bottom. It is convenient to do this on the sides. To measure, you need to pin the seam and draw with chalk the places where the fabric needs to be hemmed. Typically the width of the gap at the bottom of the seam is approximately 2 cm.
  • The side seams should be basted, but not sewn. At this stage they cannot be ground down. It makes sense to do this only after trying it on. The allowances must be carefully ironed so that they do not puff up.
  • After adjustments, the length of the belt should decrease by approximately 4 cm.
  • When the fittings are done, the excess fabric is trimmed and all the necessary seams are sewn.

Important! You can already wear this jacket. However, you need to understand that converting a men's jacket into a women's one does not come down to fit. An important part of it is the redesign of the style.

To do this, you can, for example, do the following:

  1. Draw a butterfly-shaped pattern on the back. A sample for this can be downloaded from the World Wide Web.
  2. To do this, you can use soap to apply the contours of the design onto the fabric.
  3. The outer line can be obtained by tracing the workpiece, and the inner pattern can be copied.
  4. Then along the top of the line one more time is made with a marker.
  5. After this, the pattern is drawn using paint.

Then you need to let the fabric dry. To secure the pattern, it is recommended to iron the pattern.

Another option for this alteration is to additionally remove the sleeves. The denim jacket turns into a stylish sleeveless vest.

Finishing and decoration

Important! The denim jacket makes possible a large number of very different types of jewelry.

Here are some possible options for this:

  • You can use rhinestones. It is enough to arrange them on the jacket so that they look harmonious. Before gluing them, it is recommended to simply lay them out on the jacket in order to imagine how they will look. These decorations look good. If placed on the collar around the neck, shoulders, cuffs and pockets.

Decoration with rhinestones

  • Using lace fabric will add zest to a woman's look. When using an old jacket, you can cover worn areas in this way. Lace can be used not only in white, but also in other colors - for example, black, brown or gold. Lace details will look good on the front or on cuffs.

Using black lace

  • You can use baby beads for decoration. It looks good if parts of different sizes are used. Sometimes a pattern is used, but it must be marked on the fabric before sewing on the beads.

Use of beads

  • The use of beads to decorate jeans is more accessible to those who have experience and skills in this area. However, in this way you can make patterns that will make a fantastic impression. They can be placed on almost all large or small areas of the jacket: on the back, front or on the cuffs.

Using beads
There are also many other options for decorating denim jackets.

Interesting and practical ideas from old denim items

Denim items occupy an important place in almost any wardrobe. But some things are becoming scarce, others are going out of fashion. Regular jeans can fray or tear. If among your things there is something that can be altered, the time has come. Here are some great ideas collected from denim scraps.

Change your silhouette

Sometimes, to make something relevant, it is enough to make the most minimal changes. A shirt that wrinkles on the back can be altered to create a clear, neat silhouette.

For an hourglass or pear-shaped figure, choosing a denim shirt can be difficult. After all, with wide hips, the waist and shoulders will also be rather large. Remove the excess length of the sleeve at the top, resew the yoke and remove the excess fabric at the waist into the cross seam. The item will fit perfectly. Don't be afraid to replace decorative denim seams with regular ones - this will make your shirt look even more elegant.

Get inspired by examples of designer items

Patchwork items appear on catwalks and fashion store windows. Why not create something similar yourself? You can use any old item as a pattern. Combine pieces from pieces of denim in different colors. Items made from scraps of the same color, but of different saturation, will look best.

Unusual models

The denim version of those things that are more commonly seen made from other materials looks very impressive. Try making a cardigan or padded jacket.

What to wear with a denim jacket

There are different types of such clothes. If you are using a regular size model, it is recommended to wear tight-fitting clothes underneath. In this situation, a turtleneck, shorts, skirts, and dresses are suitable. Shoes should be chosen depending on the woman’s height. If it is low, then a high heel is better. Low soles will make her look squat in a denim jacket. Skirts and dresses should not be longer than the jacket. In this case, the image turns out to be both gentle, feminine and bold, bright.

A denim jacket is practical and stylish and beautiful at the same time. Even novice craftsmen can sew it. There are many possibilities to decorate it and give it a unique and impressive style.

Who are denim raincoats suitable for?

Denim raincoats, like any denim products, are universal - they can be worn by absolutely all women with any type of figure. Denim goes well with almost all types and colors of clothing. But to look stylish, fashionable and elegant in this product, you need to be able to choose a style based on your body type:

  • Elongated models suit tall girls more. It is better to wear heels under them. And the hem of a skirt or dress should not peek out from the bottom of the cloak.
  • Those with short stature should choose models of medium length.
  • Girls with a beautiful figure can emphasize this advantage with a fitted style or a belt.
  • There are certain models of raincoats designed for pregnant women. They have a trapezoidal or loose cut and a short or medium length.
  • Ultra-short raincoats look perfect on young beauties.

DIY women's denim jacket. 2. Sewing: front, back

Hello. I'm slowly starting to collect my denim jacket.

  • This is the composition I cut out of fabric. The direction of the lobe is vertical everywhere.

  • I connected the 3 lower back parts together with a denim seam.
  • I connected the 3 lower parts of the shelf and again the 3 lower parts of the second shelf, also with a denim seam.

Shelf

Internal chest pocket with flap

I put this pocket in a separate post. I did it on jeans for my son.

Chest patch pocket with flap

I cut the pocket based on the size of the middle piece, so that the seams of the front come out from under the bottom of the pocket, and not from the sides.

My pocket lengths: width at the top 10.5 cm, bottom 9.5 cm; length in the middle 13 cm.

Valve: top width 11.5 cm; length in the middle 5.5 cm.

  • I cut out a pocket with an allowance of 1 cm, at the top 2 cm. I overcast the top allowance, bend it and lay a decorative stitch at a distance of 1.5 cm from the top.
  • I iron the side and bottom allowances.

  • I overcast the upper allowance of the lower part of the shelf.
  • I put the pocket on and sew it on. First stitch 1 mm from the edge, then the second at some distance. I go by the width of the machine foot, it’s very convenient for me.

  • I cut out the valve with allowances of 1 cm.

  • I detach the valve and punch through the loop.

I place the flap on the flange so that the flap allowance is below the edge of the flange allowance.

I sew it on. The line is above the stitching line for the shelf with the yoke (with chalk in the photo).

Yoke

  • I trim the one and a half centimeter bottom allowance of the yoke.

  • I fold the yoke with the shelf face to face.

The yoke allowance lies lower by the amount of trimming. That way he won't peek out.

  • I join with machine stitching.

Side pocket with frame

The shelf was assembled with God's help.

Back

Yoke

If the yoke is single, then you can connect the yoke to the back and shoulder seams using a denim seam. You will get neat closed seams.

I have a double yoke. I cut out the inner part from the same jeans, but you can use something else: printed cotton looks original, for example.

  • I fold the yokes face to face and the back, aligning the cuts. I'm stitching.

Here I show that the yoke is double, face to face.

  • I trim the back allowance, leaving at least 3 mm.

I trim the yoke allowances together, leaving 1 cm.

  • I turn away the inner yoke and lay a decorative stitch at a distance of 1 mm along the upper yoke and seam allowances.

It is very difficult to topstitch both yokes by 1 mm, so I only topstitch the top one.

  • I add a second decorative stitch.

Shoulder seams

  • I pin face to face and then sew the front and top back yoke.

Let me remind you that if the yoke is single - then a denim seam, then we fold it inside out to inside out.

  • Trimming the back yoke allowance

I perform two shoulders in parallel.

  • I turn it inside out. I bend the allowance of the lower back yoke at a distance of 2-3 mm from the stitching line.

  • I place the yoke over the seam, closing it. To do this, it was necessary to iron it a little further.

  • I place a line from the face exactly into the seam.

  • And then the second decorative one.

Side seams

  • I stitch and overcast.

I cut 0.5 cm with an overlocker. The allowances are 1.5 cm; with this connection, such large ones are not needed.

  • I iron the seam allowances towards the back.

I show here the side seams from the front and back.

We're done for today. Whoever is alive is well done.

How to sew a denim jacket with your own hands?

Share on social media networks:

We all want to look stylish and tasteful. Over time, clothing made from denim, which has a special density and natural composition, is becoming increasingly popular. A variety of denim jackets are still quite a fashionable item in every person’s wardrobe; it is especially fashionable to wear jackets with fur. Of course, you can buy any women's and men's clothing, but why overpay if, for example, you can sew equally interesting outerwear from old jeans. To sew such a jacket, you can use different types of material - stretch, denim, chambray, denim, broken twill, eikru. You can also download various patterns for free on the Internet. Whether you buy fabric or use what you have, you'll save big. Today we will figure out how to sew a denim jacket with our own hands.

Patterns of jackets and raincoats

The denim jacket pattern can be used for sewing from jeans and cotton raincoat fabric. After making small changes to the construction, you can sew a windbreaker.

This is a sports cut denim jacket pattern with side leaf pockets. The sleeves are designed with pleats at the wrists, secured with a snap or button. The jacket looks good in combination with a dress.

The standard for sewing any denim items is to use thicker threads than for stitching, in a contrasting color. Before sewing, you need to try this method.

Denim garments are often finished with double finishing stitches. The first line usually turns out beautiful, the second often wobbles and spoils the entire look of the product. It is recommended to think about it and, if beginners are unsure of their abilities, not to do such stitching.

A simple idea for sewing a denim jacket

So, we come to the most important thing - sewing a fashionable denim jacket. Today we will look at several ways to make such clothes with your own hands. Since denim fabrics are quite dense and pliable, the work will be quite easy. Patterns can be made in different ways. Which ones? You will learn about this a little further.

To sew jeans and the work itself we will need:

  1. Finished pattern.
  2. Any denim 2 meters long.
  3. Filler (preferably padding polyester).
  4. Lining fabric of your choice, 1.5 meters long.
  5. Fur collar made of natural or artificial pile.
  6. Threads to match the fabric.
  7. Needle.
  8. Scissors
  9. Sewing machine.
  10. Elements for decoration.

Important! In this case, the length of 2 meters includes all the details of the pattern. As a result, you should get a jacket that reaches the lower level of the back (to the tailbone). Keep in mind that the size directly depends on your parameters and personal preferences.

Let's get started:

  • First, we make a pattern. Many examples are presented on the Internet. The most important rule is to cut according to your personal measurements, taking into account all allowances for seams and other sewing elements.
  • We transfer all the elements of the pattern onto the fabric and padding polyester.
  • Next, we sew the filling to the selected denim fabric, making horizontal stitches to secure the padding polyester inside the jacket.
  • We sew the pre-cut pockets to the side seam, folding the edges to the wrong side.

Important! To prevent the pocket from clinging inside the product, it can be sewn by hand to the stitching of the two front halves.

  • We machine sew two shoulder seams.
  • Now we sew the cut out sleeves to the upper shelves and sew down the side seams.
  • We take the pre-cut lining fabric and sew it along the already sewn lines of the padding polyester.

Important! Don't forget to overlock the edges of the lining.

  • On the wrong side of the fur collar you need to sew a strip of similar denim fabric.
  • We sew the collar to the neck of the jacket with our own hands.
  • We decorate the product at our discretion - with embroidery, rhinestones, thorns, lace, inscriptions and other decoration elements.

Important! Using this master class you can also sew a men's denim jacket. The customer decides whether to leave it in a classic design or make it brighter, and you just fulfill his pleasant whim.

What look can you create with a denim raincoat?

This model is unique in that it can be used not only in an everyday look, but also to create other beautiful and feminine looks. Let's look at a few fashionable looks:

  • Romantic style. A denim coat goes well with a cocktail dress and heels. You can choose a dress with a floral pattern or from a light, airy fabric.
  • Classic style. Slim or classic trousers, a straight skirt, a blouse, a shirt and a light sweater - all this can easily be combined with a fashionable denim raincoat. To complete your look, choose an elegant tie or scarf, stiletto heels and a small handbag.
  • Casual style. Skinny jeans or bell-bottoms, a loose shirt, T-shirt or jumper, and comfortable shoes on your feet - and you can go for a walk around the city. Leather trousers and leggings, short shorts and miniskirts go well with the raincoat. For this look, you can choose not only high-heeled or wedge shoes, but also sports shoes or low-soled ballet flats.
  • Sport style. Denim trousers, a loose T-shirt and sneakers or moccasins are the perfect complement to a denim trench coat.

How to sew a jacket from old jeans?

Just don't think about throwing away your family's old jeans. You can make an excellent warm jacket from them without having much cutting and sewing experience.

  2. Next, we take the necessary measurements.
