We sew ourselves, and it's hellish work. We have both been sewing for several years now, I have sewn to order (including wedding dresses) and it is still very difficult to sew and run a business. Since you don't sew, it might make sense for you to find someone who is good at sewing. Of course, it’s very convenient when you can sit down at the machine yourself and sew a sample, rather than trying to explain something to someone, but perhaps this is not the most important thing.

Who will make the patterns for your models? If you do not have experience in creating patterns, you will have to pay separately for patterns (unless, of course, you find a seamstress who can also create patterns). Only then will the seamstress cost more.

2. Please advise what criteria should we use to look for a seamstress/dressmaker who could implement and possibly develop our ideas?

The most important thing is that you can work with her, that you “get along in character,” and that you have the same understanding of “quality.” I’m tired of fighting over every crooked seam, every faux pas, so we sew ourselves. If you are planning knitwear, be sure to “try” a seamstress/dressmaker on knitwear too. Sewing knitwear is not the same as sewing cotton or even silk (personally, I had to learn more).

3. We want to buy a machine and an overlocker. Is it better to do it ourselves or rely on a seamstress to hire?
