We knit leg warmers for women and children, descriptions and diagrams

Knitted leg warmers are indispensable for sports, dancing, and are comfortable to train in. You can buy knitted leg warmers in the store, but the price does not always correspond to the quality. We suggest you knit leg warmers with your own hands. This is not difficult to do by choosing a good description and high-quality knitting materials.

Where to begin?

You can knit leg warmers in different ways: on 2 or 5 knitting needles in the round. In the first case, you will need to knit a rectangle (or trapezoid) and sew it to form a “pipe”. Such a product will be less elastic than one knitted on 5 knitting needles. If you know how to knit in the round, then take stocking needles, but if you don’t know how, then it’s time to learn with a simple product.

Before starting knitting, take measurements:

  • leg circumference below the knee or above the knee, depending on the height of your product
  • calf volume
  • calf volume
  • height of leggings

Based on the measurements obtained, create a pattern. If you knit in the round, you won't need a pattern.

Knitting the simplest leggings for beginners

Undoubtedly, knee socks associated with beautiful braids or openwork patterns look beautiful. But what should those who do not yet know how to knit complex patterns do? Or do you just want a minimalist model? For beginners, we recommend knitting with a simple pattern - rib 1*1 or rib 2*2 (alternating knit and purl stitches). At the top and bottom of the leg warmers, tie the elastic band tighter; to do this, take knitting needles 1 size smaller. The elastic is needed to prevent the knee socks from slipping while walking or running.

How to strengthen an elastic band when knitting?

In factory-made products, spandex is often added to the elastic so that it does not stretch during wear. We also recommend that you buy spandex threads from a craft store and add them when knitting the last row. Or you can lay one line with spandex along the inside, see photos with different options for using spandex:

What to wear with knitted leg warmers?

Warm gaiters will warm your legs up to the knee and above in cold weather. It is better to wear them with short dresses, shorts and skirts. It is worth choosing special shoes for them.

  • Leg warmers are worn over sneakers, sneakers and short ankle boots.
  • Also, high knee socks can peek out from the boots, then the top of the boots should be wider than usual.
  • Since this is an additional accessory, you should think through your entire look so that knee socks go well not only with shoes, but also with outerwear.

Today we have prepared an excellent selection of patterns and descriptions for knitting a wide variety of leg warmers.

How to take measurements and make a pattern

Before you start knitting, you should make a pattern. First you need to take measurements using a tailor's meter, measuring:

  • calf circumference;
  • calf muscle circumference;
  • girth under the knee, where the leggings will end;
  • length from knee to center of calf;
  • length from center of calf to ankle;
  • height of the finished product.

The pattern is made for products that are knitted on two needles. When knitting on 5 needles, measurements are needed to correctly decrease and increase stitches so that the products fit well on the leg.

When creating a pattern, you need to draw a long rectangle on graph paper, the long side of which should be equal to the length of the finished product. On the bottom side measure the width of the ankle circumference, closer to the middle indicate the calf circumference. At the top, mark the size of the circumference under the knee. Connect the points with a smooth line. Draw rectangles on the bottom and top that will serve as lapels.

Knitted golf from Stefanel is a very original model thanks to its unusual aran pattern. Probably every woman already uses knitted golf in her wardrobe.

Craftswomen knit them, and every time they want it to be different from traditional models. Today the proposal is to connect golf specifically with arans, especially with fairly unbroken ones.

Previously, there was an openwork knee-high, which also looks great against the background of standard knitted knee-highs. Happy creativity!

To knit this golf, you can use 2.5 mm knitting needles, yarn consumption is about 600 grams. Look at the openwork golf model, perhaps you can apply ready-made calculations from the magazine model, having previously knitted your sample and compared it with your measurements and the knitting density of the openwork model.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=AG_QlZAo1Ss

In today's knitted golf, there is a very small elastic band of 1 LP to 1 PI, literally 1.5 cm. It is knitted both on the product and on the sleeve cuffs.

The high collar was also conceived in an equally original way; elastic band 3 LP to 1 IP after the lapel has the opposite front side.

In addition, both on the back and on the front, the neck and collar are knitted without closing the loops. The result is one-piece knitting using shortened rows.

But, judging by the photo, the golf is knitted with one-piece raglan. This means that all parts of the product need to be assembled onto working knitting needles at the start of the armhole. Next, knit the required height of the armhole, while simultaneously performing the raglan.

For the neckline, leave the central loops on an additional knitting needle and knit contractions on the front at the same time as the shoulder and back loops. The latter are easy to knit without changes. Continue this way until the end of the front neckline, return all the loops to work and finish the collar. Maybe I'm wrong.

Share your opinion and experience, how would you connect this part, I will be very grateful for your advice.

Collar height is about 18-19 cm.

Description of the work process step by step with photos

In this detailed master class, we will cast on exactly 80 stitches onto the knitting needles. This number of loops must be distributed over four working knitting needles, so that each has twenty pieces. We cast on loops based on the measurements taken!

Crochet potholder: TOP-5 optionsCrochet dresses with descriptions and diagrams of how to knit a beach summer lace, fashion modelsKnitting legwarmers: various methods of knittingHow to knit a warm hat and a helmet for a boy according to the pattern on knitting needles

First we work according to the first scheme. We knit, depending on the size of the shin. Having reached the part where the product narrows, that is, knitting about ten centimeters.

According to the diagram, we remove the loops. Having completed the narrowing point, we knit again, using the pattern for beginners. Having completed the product to the heel, put the second and third knitting needles aside. We continue the process of the first and fourth.

We achieve the required height for the heel. We combine all the knitting needles. The most important thing you need to know is that the heel of knee socks wears out twice as fast as other areas of the product. Therefore it needs to be compacted. To do this, you need to make a heel according to the following pattern: chrome. remove the stitch, make one knit stitch and remove one loop, knit one and so on until the end of the row.

We knit a new row, that is, the wrong side of the item according to the description. n. We do not remove the loops. Using this easy description for beginners, we do the entire height of the heel. That is, about four or seven centimeters.

At this stage of the master class we need to divide all the loops between three knitting needles. If you can’t divide by three, drag a little more stitches onto the middle needle. We start knitting stitches from the center and one side. We make the final loop together with 1 stitch on the second side. We turn the thing over and continue working using the same scheme.

Gradually, the shape of the knitted heel will look like a voluminous box. According to the description, we decrease stitches until the loops on the side knitting needles run out. Once the heel is completed we will move on to creating the outsole.

On the side of women's socks we make additional loops from edge loops. When creating the upper side loops, we make decreases according to the second pattern. According to the same scheme, it is necessary to make part of the product up to the little finger. After this, the loops are closed: two pieces in each row.

To strengthen the finger part, it must be tied using the facial method. To prevent knitted knee socks from falling off while wearing, you need to tighten the elastic band with a hook.

Knitted knee socks are completed!

How to knit openwork knee socks?

Materials required for work:

  • One hundred grams of cotton or acrylic yarn.
  • Knitting needles number three.
  • Set of double needles with number two.

Size 37-38 Knitting density: 20 p. x 31 r. = 10 x 10 cm

Description of work:

We start knitting with thicker knitting needles. Let's cast on 64 stitches and knit in a four cm circle with a 2 x 2 elastic band.

Then we move on to the main openwork pattern: about thirty cm from the first row, we transfer the knitting to four stocking needles No. 2 - 16 loops for each. Now our product will become twice as narrow at the ankle. Having thus made fourteen rows, we begin to create the heel.

We leave half the loops for a while and continue to work in stockinette stitch and on the loops with the first and fourth needles. Then you need to knit twenty rows in stockinette stitch. In the new row we sharply reduce the heel loops. To do this, we divide the loops into three pieces (32 = 11+10+11): the side parts are eleven loops each, the center is ten loops. We create loops in the center, and slowly decrease the loops on the side.

We complete each row by knitting together the final center loop (10th) and the first side loop. When there are ten pieces on the knitting needle, we complete the creation of the heel. On the knitting needle, where we have ten pieces, we cast on ten more edge loops. After this, we knit loops in an openwork pattern on the removed 2nd and 3rd knitting needles. Next, we pull out the edge loops along the second edge of the heel onto the knitting needle. We place the loops on four knitting needles. We continue to work on four knitting needles.

Having reached the little finger, we begin to create decreases in every second row. To do this, on the 2nd and 4th needles at the beginning of the row we make two loops together, and on the first and third needles we create broaches at the end of the row. When there are five loops left on all knitting needles, we create decreases in each row. And after a few rows we close and sew the last loops.
