Photo: soul-fishing.ru Lush tulle skirts have long remained the prerogative of holidays, children's matinees or hen parties. But now eclecticism is in fashion and therefore such a bright model could not remain aside. However, choosing the perfect cut, size and length is quite problematic. And why, if in just a couple of hours you can sew a tulle skirt with your own hands! You won't even need a sewing machine. Let's talk!
Selecting the right model
Tulle skirts can have different styles and lengths. They are incredibly feminine and weightless. Before you start sewing, you just need to choose the right model. The following varieties are perfect for girls:
- ballet tutu . Has a minimum length. In the manufacture of this model, semi-rigid material is hidden in several layers. They are sewn to an elastic band or belt. A do-it-yourself tulle tutu skirt can be made as quickly and simply as possible;
- Shopenka. The chamfer is elongated. Sewn from soft tulle. It can be single-layer or multi-layer. The cut may also vary. Sun, half-sun, wedge-shaped and rectangular shapes are allowed;
- tutu. A tulle skirt with elastic is created without sewing at all. It consists of strips fixed on a belt;
- American. In this case, the tutu is combined with the sun model. These are incredibly full skirts;
- with large frills. When sewing, the strips are gathered and fixed on the lining in the form of tiers.
Beginner needlewomen are recommended to make a tulle skirt of a simple style. For example, the tutu model would be an excellent solution.
Depending on the length, skirts are divided into the following types:
- super mini. They have a minimum length. As a rule, they are worn in tandem with leggings;
- mini. The length in this case is above the knee;
- to the knee;
- midi. The product is below the knee, but not to the floor;
- maxi;
- asymmetrical . Length differences are noted.
When choosing a suitable model, you need to take into account the characteristics of the figure, the girl’s age and height. The advice of stylists will help you cope with this task.
Women with a pear figure should choose models that are not too curvy. Otherwise, the hip area will appear even more voluminous. An excellent solution would be a shopka with one or two layers, equipped with a lining. Length recommended midi or maxi.
For those with an apple silhouette, a short multi-layered tulle skirt will also not suit you. It is recommended to give preference to midi models with moderate volume. The waist should be a little high. It is emphasized with a belt.
If you have an inverted triangle figure, a full tulle skirt would be an excellent solution. With its help, the silhouette is balanced. In addition, attention will be diverted from large shoulders. The hips will visually appear more voluminous.
How to decorate a petticoat for a girl
To make the petticoat sparkle, you can decorate it in an original way so that no one else has it. In this matter you need to give free rein to your imagination. For example, the edge of a skirt can be sewn with a beautiful satin ribbon.

Decorating the skirt with flowers
You can sew small flowers made of fabric or leather onto the petticoat. You can also decorate with beads, feathers, rhinestones, and beads. A fluffy light skirt with the addition of natural fur will look luxurious. If a girl plays the role of a princess or Snow Maiden, then tinsel can be sewn along the edge. If you are preparing a ladybug costume, then circles made of dark velvet will look beautiful on the petticoat, and the skirt itself can be red.
Note! The main thing is to discuss the decoration of the skirt with your child, listen to his preferences and decorate the product together.
Taking measurements and making calculations
Before you sew a tulle tutu skirt, you need to make certain calculations. This way you will be able to understand how much material will be needed. This largely depends on the chosen style.
If the choice is made on highly translucent, thin fabric, the clothing should be equipped with a lining. It is essential that this material is smooth and allows for an elegant drape. To make the product more airy, it is recommended to give preference to dense fabrics. If the volume needed is insignificant, the choice is made of soft tissues. If their width is one and a half meters, you will need a cut in length only 5 cm shorter than the skirt itself.
If a removable shopenka consisting of several layers is created from tulle for a woman, the amount of material depends on the chosen length and number of layers. To obtain this value, you need to add the waist size to the length of the clothing, which is divided by 6.3. The calculated parameter is multiplied by 2.
When sewing a product with elastic, the volume of the hips, not the waist, is taken into account. For a 4-layer model, the length of which is 60 cm, you will need a 3x3 m cut.
Double sun
Double sun - a fluffy version of the skirt. It is made from light, loose fabric and looks great on any figure. Among the advantages are elegance, correction of imperfections and the fact that the product is suitable for all representatives of the fair sex, regardless of age.
Skirt – double sun
Double sun is half the waist circumference. The measured waist size is divided by two, and then again by twice the number pi. The pattern method is exactly the same as for a skirt with two seams, only in the end you get not one continuous fabric, but two parts - the front and back components.
Preparing tools
Before you sew a fluffy tulle skirt, you need to prepare all the necessary tools. In addition to fabric, you will need:
- measuring tape;
- scissors;
- thread and needle;
- rubber;
- satin ribbons;
- pins.
In addition, you also need to prepare a sewing machine. It contains a needle designed for stretch and very thin materials. If the bottom is going to be processed, binding will also come in handy.
It is worth considering that this material may shrink. Therefore, before starting sewing, you should steam it with an iron and remove existing creases.
What it is
Externally, the skirt looks like flared clothing, which is why it is called flared differently. It has a round shape, reminiscent of the sun, which is why it got its name. The product is suitable for girls with any type of figure. The loose cut allows you to hide curvy hips and highlight the advantages of slender legs.
Skirt on a skinny girl
For girls who are too thin, the “sun” will help add the necessary volume to the lower parts of the body. The thin waist will be emphasized, and the image will become more airy and feminine in appearance.
Curvy fashionistas should give preference to skirts made of thin materials. They will hide all the flaws of the figure and highlight the advantages of the owner.
Curvy figure model
Important! It must be taken into account that the style of the skirt tends to affect a person’s height, reducing it. A short girl should not forget to wear high-heeled shoes, and tall beauties should not buy items that are too short.
Who should wear what:
- Miniskirts are mainly suitable for slender girls of short and medium height. On other women, the products look inappropriate and vulgar, highlighting the disadvantages of the figure.
- Midi length is a universal option. The product looks great on both thin and plump girls. The skirt can be worn to festive events, to work or school, and can also be used as an everyday item. It goes with almost any top, you just need to choose the right color scheme.
- Floor-length skirts with a train made of light fabric are necessary for every fashionista in the summer season. They can be combined with sandals, sandals, ballet flats or heels.

Features of choosing tulle
The fabric is a mesh, translucent material, which contains polyamide and nylon threads. Its structure is similar to honeycombs. It is widely used in creating all kinds of jewelry, sewing curtains and wardrobe items. Among the advantages of this material are the following:
- airiness and minimal weight;
- tendency to drape;
- wear resistance;
- even when wet it does not lose its shape;
- does not wrinkle.
In addition, the fabric dries quickly and does not absorb moisture. True, it also has its drawbacks. The canvas melts under high temperatures, can stick to the body and becomes electrified.
Depending on the degree of rigidity, the fabrics are divided into several types:
- hard. They are able to maintain their shape, but their cut is rough. Scratches may appear on the body when using it. That is why tulle skirts are rarely made from it. When using this type, the product must be equipped with a lining. The edges need finishing;
- semi-rigid. Ideal for creating three-dimensional models. They also retain their shape, but the skin is not injured;
- soft . Used in the manufacture of elegant wardrobe items. They are very pleasant to the touch, but they do not retain their shape well. Therefore, the design must be multi-layered.
Eurofatin is also on sale. It is very soft and does not curl when cut. Accordingly, there is no need to straighten it.
To ensure that working with the canvas does not cause difficulties, you need to adhere to the following recommendations:
- to avoid electrification and sticking to your hands, it is recommended to spray the canvas with plain water using a spray bottle;
- When doing work by hand, it is best to use thick threads and needles. The fabric will not be damaged when using them, and all manipulations will be much easier;
- When using a sewing machine, a straight stitch is used, not a zigzag stitch. Large stitches are used to create fine gathering;
- The layers should first be secured with pins, basted by hand, and only then sewn on.
The edges of the fabric are not prone to fraying. Accordingly, it is not at all necessary to process them. To add additional volume, you can fix a fishing line in the hem area.
Instructions for sewing a shopenka
Step-by-step instructions will help you figure out how to sew a tulle skirt. To create it, four layers of fabric are cut out. Each of them will consist of a pair of circles. In this work, you will need a 6x3 m piece of base material. For the lining you will need a 1.45x1.45 m fabric. You will also need doublerin for the belt. In addition, you need to take care of the presence of lightning.
Pattern and cutting
The first step is to make a pattern. Even a novice needlewoman can figure out how to make it. For this purpose, a pair of radii should be drawn on paper from one point. One of them should be equal to your waist circumference divided by 6.3. The second is calculated by adding the first radius to the length of the product. An additional 3 cm is added for hems and seams.
Then the canvas needs to be divided into eight identical squares with sides equal to 1.5 m. Each of these elements is folded in half. Then circles are cut out from the pattern, equipped with holes on the inside.
If the fabric is not too large and it is not possible to cut out every detail, you can use a more economical layout. In this case, the chessboard principle is applied. The following manipulations are performed:
- The canvas is folded lengthwise into two identical parts.
- A semicircle is applied to the fold with the flat side, and its outline is outlined. The result of cutting is one semicircle
- After this, the pattern is shifted and transferred with an even part to the other side, where there is no fold.
- In this way, a pair of half-suns is created, which are subsequently stitched together.
After performing such manipulations, you need to do the following:
- Each of the circles is cut along the radius in one part.
- Another circle is cut out from the lining. It is created according to the same principle as in the case of the main part, but should be 5 cm shorter.
- The belt is cut out. Its length should correspond to your waist, and its width should be 8 cm.
- The belt is glued using dublerin.
When using the sun cut, the tulle skirt can be more voluminous. To do this, simply increase the diameter of the hole intended for the waist.
Assembly work
A do-it-yourself tulle skirt is assembled strictly according to a certain technology. The first step is to combine a pair of cut circles. They are sewn along the side seam. This creates four double suns. Two such parts need to be aligned along the waist line and pinned together. A pair of parallel seams are laid along the top of the resulting structures. The thread should be loose and the stitches should be large.
Now we begin the process of assembling a tulle skirt:
- The threads on one side of the stitches are tightened. The parts are assembled in such a way that their length is equal to the waist circumference. They need to be basted and sewn one to the other at the waist.
- The lining circle is cut at the waist. It is placed under all layers of the base material. In this case, basting and stitching at the waist are also performed. After this, the running seams are removed.
- A belt is placed over the main elements. Its front side is placed on the front part of the skirt and is also sewn along the waist.
- All layers along the side sections are stitched. An overlocker is used for this.
- The zipper is pinned to the side seam. Its upper teeth should reach the center of the belt.
- The belt is folded over to the wrong side, basted, and then attached to the skirt by folding the edge.
- The side seam below the zipper is sewn together.
- The bottom of the lining is processed using an overlocker or by hemming.
Sewing such a skirt does not cause any particular difficulties. Even a novice craftswoman can handle it. To do this, you just need to follow the instructions provided and not overlook even minor details. With a little effort, you can create an incredibly elegant and feminine piece of clothing. In the future, it will be possible to begin independently producing more complex models.
Master class No. 4: seamless skirt
You will need:
- At least 10 meters of tulle about 120cm wide
- A strip of fabric, the length of which is equal to the circumference of your waist + 10 cm, and the width is approximately 13 cm.
- A wide ribbon, the length of which is equal to the circumference of your waist + ties.
Operating procedure:
1. Lay out a roll of tulle on the table.
2. Measure 18cm from its outer edge and mark this point.
3. Continue making marks every 18cm until you reach the opposite edge of the cut.
4. Using the marks as a guide, cut the fabric into strips.
5. Take the strips one by one and, folding them in half, tie them to the tape as follows:
6. The closer the knots are, the fuller the skirt will be. Continue until you have filled the entire tape.
7. Tie the ends of the ribbon.
You can leave the skirt as is, using the ends of the ribbon as ties each time you wear it, or you can create a belt that will better define your waist and hide the knots.
8. Fold the strip of fabric you chose for the waistband in half and mark its center.
<
9. Do the same with the skirt - mark its middle.
10. Connect the fabric and the skirt at the marked points.
11. Next, continue pinning the edge of the fabric with knots along the entire length of the skirt's waistband.
12. Turn the skirt over and place a basting stitch just under the knots, catching the edge of the fabric that is now underneath, on the table side.
<13. Hem the unsewn edges of the fabric on all sides.
