Ideas on what you can make from an old sheepskin coat with your own hands

In the closets of many of our mothers or grandmothers, there will probably be an old sheepskin coat that no one needs, which has long gone out of fashion and has lost its appearance. If you can find such a thing, hurry up and rejoice, because it can be turned into a real fashion masterpiece. In addition, many sheepskin coats boast excellent quality and natural material. It's definitely not worth throwing away such a thing.

Updated sheepskin coat

An unpleasant and long-out-of-fashion item can be transformed into your favorite item without much effort. In addition, it is not worth having special professionalism in order to realize metamorphosis. You can simply replace the fittings in an old sheepskin coat, and it will sparkle with completely new colors, or you can complement it with new decorative elements. If you want to completely change the style of the product, then this is not a problem.

Fashionable items from old sheepskin coats

Slippers

Everyone has slippers. Even if they are already worn out, you can experiment and make them exclusive. It is enough to replace the insole and the upper part, and the product will acquire a new design. The slippers will become warm and comfortable. This is exactly what you need for home comfort.

Slippers

You can sheathe the parts with a regular seam, having prepared a leather strip in advance. To make neat holes, you will need a small awl.

Even a novice needlewoman can sew slippers. You don't need any special skills or knowledge to do this. With a little imagination, you can bring any idea to life.

Fresh ideas

It is clear that fashion is a fickle phenomenon. In pursuit of fresh images and new silhouettes, designers and fashion designers resort to various tricks. The location of the pockets, the size of the collar, the number of raised seams, the design of the sleeve cap, the cuff, the length of the product and other elements paint the image of the product, its style and appearance. Proper placement of parts, fasteners, and a correctly constructed pattern that follows the curves of the body are the key to a perfect fit. And even if the second thing didn’t fit the figure very well, it can be improved. But is it possible to alter a sheepskin coat on your own, and most importantly, how? Fashionable and stylish solutions will come in handy. It is worth looking around or leafing through outerwear fashion magazines to determine the most suitable option for yourself.

UGG boots

Unusual house shoes are loved by many fashionistas. If the house is cool, you can make ugg boots. To sew a simple model, you will need an old sheepskin coat and some free time. The product must be sewn according to the pattern of a sock, from 2 halves. Experienced needlewomen can sew the sole from below.

Ugg boots will become indispensable in the house. They are not only warm, but also original. If you want to please yourself with a new thing, you will have to try.

Vest

If the old sheepskin coat is well preserved, and the sleeves are worn out, you should not throw away the item. You can also make a vest out of it. To do this, you need to cut the sleeves along the line along which they are sewn into the armholes. Next, you need to slightly tuck the edges outward and stitch the product. The result is a vest with fur trim.

The new item will fit perfectly into your wardrobe. It can be combined with any outfit and be the center of attention. Every fashionista will appreciate a new thing and happily try it on. Now you will be able to create vivid images, surprising the people around you.

The most popular conversion options

Sheepskin coats are sewn from natural and artificial materials. Working with natural tanned leather is much more difficult - this must be taken into account, since the item can be irreparably damaged. If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to contact a studio. If you are determined to change the appearance of the product with your own hands, then there are several ways at your disposal.

Depending on the condition of the product and your level of sewing skills, you can choose the following ideas for remaking a sheepskin coat:

  • partial change in cut;
  • change of style (completely alter);
  • decoration;
  • replacement of accessories.

The first is suitable for things that are frayed or torn in places. Most often, the hem, the inside of the sleeves, the area near the pockets and on the sides, and cuffs are affected. You can change the style of an “old-fashioned” product in good condition. Look at the photo before and after such a transformation - many at first do not believe that this is the same thing! And replacing accessories and decorating techniques allows you to “refresh” any sheepskin coat.

Skirt

In winter, there is absolutely no need to hide under huge robes. It turns out that you can make a beautiful and warm skirt with your own hands. You don't have to invent anything new for this. It is enough to prepare a sheepskin coat and patterns.

The front of the skirt will consist of sheepskin coat shelves, while the fastener must be left in the center. The back part must be sewn from the back. We must not forget about the belt; it can be made from leftover fabric.

note

!

To make the skirt comfortable to wear, you need to sew on a lining. It needs to be made from sliding material.

If you want to surprise everyone around you with your impeccable taste, you need to update your wardrobe. Such a new thing will not get lost in the closet. The skirt harmonizes perfectly with boots, the look is seductive and daring.

Mittens

It turns out that you can make many useful things from an old sheepskin coat. If winter is still in full swing, it’s worth warming up a little. Why not make your own gloves.

Mittens

A men's jacket is enough to sew items for the whole family. Cutting out mittens is not difficult; even a novice craftswoman can cope with the task.

Mittens will be a wonderful holiday gift. They will not only keep you warm in winter, but will also remind you of the giver.

Kids toys

Fur is an excellent material for sewing toys. If you have an unnecessary sheepskin coat in your closet, you can use it for creativity. Why not please the children and make new toys for them. The easiest way is to make glove puppets that need to be put on your hand.

Kids toys

If you want to sew a more complicated model, don’t give up the idea. You can use old knitwear, cotton wool, or synthetic padding as padding. With a little imagination, you can hold a master class for the whole family. Each member of the household will be able to make a toy and have fun.

Creating Patches

If a hole in the sheepskin coat appears in a place where the applique would be inappropriate, it is necessary to apply a patch. Restoring a sheepskin coat at home requires preliminary preparation of all the tools: glue, patch, nail scissors and a needle and thread. The patch should be a piece of leather identical in color to the entire product. Many manufacturers, when selling sheepskin coats, include a flap, which will become the most suitable material for a patch.

Step-by-step patching process:

  1. Ripping the lining necessary to gain access to the hole from the inside.
  2. Degreasing the flesh in the hole area.
  3. Apply glue to the patch and the area around the hole.
  4. Gluing the patch to the inside of the product.
  5. Place a heavy object on the gluing site and leave for a couple of days.
  6. Sew up the lining.

When applying glue, you must be careful not to stain the outer part of the sheepskin coat with it. The restoration of an artificial sheepskin coat or a product made from genuine leather is demonstrated in the video.

Products for pets

If a cat or dog lives in the house, you can make a lot of useful things for them. Why not cut out a figure of any shape from the jacket, and lay the resulting rug in your pet's basket. Pets will be warm and cozy.

When walking a dog in winter, owners think about clothes for their pets. Making a sheepskin coat for a dog is not difficult. This doesn't require a lot of material. If something doesn’t work out the first time, there will be fabric left over to sew the product more accurately.

It turns out that it’s so easy to make your pet happy. Especially for them, you can sew original things that will be indispensable in everyday life.

Ideas on how to update a sheepskin coat

We offer several fashionable and simple ideas for repurposing an old sheepskin coat into a new wardrobe item. The work may require various accessories, patience and sewing skills.

Making a fur coat from an old sheepskin coat

The most time-consuming option is to use the wrong side of the sheepskin coat.
If the fur is beautiful and has not faded, then feel free to use this method. Alternative method : sewing fur flaps of equal width and length. The result should be a fur coat with tanned leather inserts - a very fashionable solution.

The oblique lock looks great on a sheepskin coat

You can't do without a pattern. To accurately guess the dimensions, create a pattern based on a sheepskin coat pre-cut at the seams. Then sew the lock on the bias - and the fashionable item is ready.

Playing with accessories

Large pockets, which were so often sewn onto sheepskin coats 5-10 years ago, are definitely worth fighting for. The holes from them are masked with flaps of fur or stripes. Well, the salvation of children's clothing that has become short will be the finishing of the bottom.

Women
can turn to belts . Ideally, the belt should match the color and texture of the sheepskin coat itself, so the materials for it are simply cut off from the hem . The hood is also made from it. If the length of the product does not allow such manipulations, you can cut the sleeves. The result is a sleeveless vest with a hood.

How to shorten a sheepskin coat to make a stylish thing

Since ultra-short shearling jackets are in fashion, you can safely cut off a lot of fabric.
If this length does not suit your figure, find the widest part of your hip. Place a couple of fingers on it and get a suitable option. If you need to shorten it just a few centimeters, then put the scissors aside. Take a blade instead. Add a long ruler, a contrasting pencil and a fine comb to it. To avoid cutting yourself, cover the non-working side of the blade with a white medical plaster. You can use paper instead, but this option is less convenient.

Next, draw a cutting line using a ruler . In order not to spoil the thing, add 2-3 mm to the intended distance and start cutting. Hold the blade at an angle, not straight. And don't press too hard. Only the bakhtarma should be cut off, preserving the inner core. The fur pile will need to be combed (use a comb or comb with natural bristles). Fluffed, it will help hide traces of interference in the design of the sheepskin coat.

You can skip the next step; it is recommended and not mandatory. If you have excellent seamstress skills, then stitch the bottom . But you shouldn’t decide on this if you have insufficient experience in working with tanned leather or if you don’t have a good machine. Reason: needle holes on this material are very noticeable.

Final step : taping the seams. You can also prevent their dissolution with the help of special clamps.

Allows you to shorten a sheepskin item of clothing as much as necessary.

Tools and materials:

Algorithm of actions:

A stone backing is needed to beat off the edges. They then become thinner, making them easier to sew.

Small bag

Fashionistas can't pass up exclusive items. Why not make them yourself. This will require a little imagination and free time. The result is a small clutch that will complement your look.

To sew a bag you need a sleeve of a sheepskin coat. Next you need to do the following:

  • cut off the sleeve;
  • open the seam;
  • sew up short sections;
  • attach handles to long sections;
  • sew in a zipper.

If desired, the bag can be decorated. This will require leather elements, fur parts, and appliqués. Any experiments are welcome.

Sparkle of beads

An interesting option for giving new life to a sheepskin coat is to decorate it with beads or rhinestones. This stitching is quite labor-intensive, but the result is luxurious outerwear. The algorithm looks like this:

  • to begin with, select a pattern in the form of a diagram that most suits the style of the sheepskin coat;
  • beads of certain shades are selected to give the design liveliness and brightness;
  • on a selected area of clothing, a pattern is carefully embroidered with strong threads;
  • For greater accuracy, it is recommended to first make a small sketch on the leather surface.

In a similar way, at home you can decorate outerwear with cross stitch, and rhinestone appliqué will help you create a unique and fashionable item. A photo of such a sheepskin coat will help you verify this.

Chair covers

If there are stools in the kitchen, you can make unusual covers for them. The products look original and decorate the chairs. This decor is suitable for a kitchen decorated in country style.

To receive the case, you must do the following:

  • cut out suitable parts from the sheepskin coat;
  • sew ties to the blanks.

All that remains is to try on the decorations for the chairs. Such stools will not go unnoticed. They will acquire originality and unique design.

Hat with ear flaps

Ethnic style is gaining immense popularity. If you want to show everyone around you your impeccable taste, you should try on a hat with earflaps. It turns out that you can sew it yourself. For a male model, it is advisable to choose a black sheepskin coat; for a female hat, light colors are perfect.

Note!

This hat with earflaps is of particular interest. It goes well with winter outfits, making the look irresistible.

Web of lace

Probably no one thinks about how to decorate a sheepskin coat with lace with your own hands. But it’s simple and beautiful. For this you will need:

  • acrylic paints of various colors;
  • stencils;
  • sponge or piece of foam rubber;

Place the stencil with the selected lace pattern or ornament tightly onto the surface of the sheepskin coat. It's best if it's sticky tape. Squeeze a small amount of paint onto a sponge and begin applying paint using dipping movements. Gently dry the resulting lace with a stream of air and peel off the stencil.

Such beauty can also be realized by drawing a pattern with tubes of acrylic paint, if skill allows.

Lace using this technique looks unusual and delicate. Adding metallic pigments will give the updated item a sparkling play of light. You can also get by with embroidering the sleeves with a regular lace ribbon and adding a duplicate pattern with paints of similar shades.

Pillows for the cottage

If your dacha has a summer terrace, why not create a cozy corner. To do this, just install a small sofa and sew soft pillows. The easiest way to make them is from an old sheepskin coat. The scenery looks incredible. How nice it is to lie on the sofa on a summer evening and enjoy the sunset. Every summer resident will be happy to visit the terrace, relaxing from a busy day.

If there is an old sheepskin coat hanging in the closet, there is no need to throw it away. Perhaps there are not enough useful things in the house that can be made from an unnecessary jacket. It could be anything: clothes, shoes, interior items, products for pets. Thanks to your imagination, you will be able to create a lot of interesting things and fill your home with a cozy atmosphere.

Decorating a sheepskin coat “Winter patterns”

I will tell you how you can repair a sheepskin coat (not the first freshness) using decoration. The method we choose is stamping; this method can be used by both experienced and not very skilled in drawing.

So, we will need:

— brushes (thin and flat bristles);

— acrylic paint (I took antique gold);

— stamps (any plastic snowflakes will do: the more openwork, the better).

I used garlands and stickers - then they will be suitable for decorating the house for the New Year.

So let's get started. First of all, we clean the sheepskin coat from terry and dirt (it is better to use dry cleaning, since I do not give a 100% guarantee that the pattern will withstand such a procedure. Then we cut off the terry from the holes - making the surface as smooth as possible.

Then we make a rough drawing on the sheepskin coat with a tailor's pencil or soap, going around the bend of the elbow. We fill the large snowflakes first, and then the small ones (as we work). For large snowflakes, I took diameters of various sizes - I had a spool of thread, caps from felt-tip pens, lids from paints, in short, whoever finds what. We apply paint to the rim and stamp it.

Then we finish drawing the snowflake and adding rays; it is better to do them and, in general, all straight and not long lines with a toothpick. Then we fill one of the elements of the snowflake, put paint on the brush and, as it were, smack it.

After placing the large snowflakes, I added elements of the painting, sketching them in the same way as the snowflakes. Next we place small snowflakes of different sizes. At the same time, do not forget to look at the product from afar - this technique will help avoid the effect of blurring your eyes.

After you have drawn everything, tried it on, liked everything, leave it to dry for a day. And we start fixing: put gauze on the drawing and hold the iron in cotton mode for 2-3 minutes. And so on for the whole drawing.
